I don't know why you keep saying this, I never said Wiggins plus the pick for an expiring. The pick and Wiggins for a better player makes sense.

I said Wiggins and only Wiggins for an expiring (No Pick Involved), if the ownership doesn't feel like footing a the bill for a 180 million dollar team that could be very average. Hence trading Wiggins for Lowry now would significantly drop the salary and give the Warriors more room to operate in the summer (Exceptions) without nearing 200 Million. Also you might be able to retain Oubre if that was something you were interested in.

I just do not see the Warriors continuing to spend this much money every single year especially given the recent success of the team even with Klay coming back.

Wiggins has been good for us, why would we just salary dump him? At worst he's a solid contributor on both ends.

Launch Kelly Oubre into space on a rocket for all I care. Do not want. Let somebody else regret giving him 15-20 mil a year.

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

"I would assume the plan is to use that Twolves pick you are owed this year to dump off Wiggins salary, but I am not sure how you feel about Wiggins long-term. "

I mean, you literally said this. Trading wiggins and wolves pick for lowry is essentially what that would be.
I do not think Toronto or cleveland for example would trade an expiring contract to take on wiggins at his contract. It would probably cost an asset to dump wiggins, even though he is playing well this season.

I personally think wiggins at 30 mill per is better than oubre at 18-20 mill per. Oubre probably wants a bit more than that as well.

You have any idea who that could be? Here's how I think the Warriors view the options with Wiggins. They either keep a good role player in Wiggins who plays a position of need for them even though he's overpaid or they go all in for a super star/elite player that becomes available on the market. The Warriors are not going to be getting rid of Wiggins to dump his salary or slightly upgrade for a player at his position or another on the team. Right now, the Warriors would rather keep Wiggins than Oubre at the moment.

Cmon man... don't cut what I said to make it seem like that is what I was saying....

If you would prefer to keep the pick then maybe trading Wiggins to someone like Toronto or Cleveland for an expiring Lowry/Drummond could make sense as well."

Anyways I think it is clear I never mentioned trading the pick and Wiggins for Lowry

I did not see the Warriors becoming the next Yankees where they just spend twice the money that everyone else does, but it sure seems like that is where this headed haha

I mean, wouldnt trading the pick and wiggins for an expiring contract be the same thing as dumping his salary? A statement like "Dump off wiggins salary" would insinuate the warriors trading for a contract that comes off the books this season, no?
And you still havent explained why toronto or celveland would trade an expiring contract for wiggins without any additional assets in the mix. Wouldnt make sense for either team, or any team in the nba really.

If you meant wolves pick and wiggins for a better player, then that isnt exactly dumping his contract.

What kind of trades for wolves pick and wiggins were you thinking about then?

Right, but if you read the next part of what I said it was clear I wasn't talking about giving him and the pick away for a guy you wouldn't resign. Obviously you aren't getting a superstar for just Wiggins and Minny pick like Beal. But you could probably get someone like Siakam or Simmons for package around Wiggins and Minny Pick.

As far as Toronto or Cleveland, they have a ton of cap space available this summer and both need help on the wings. Not a ton of great options in free agency this summer as realistic targets unless you think Lebron, Kawhi, PG are actually leaving LA. Obviously Wiggins is from Canada as well, so I thought they might be interested in bringing him back. They aren't really contenders this year so Lowry might want to play on a better team for the rest of the year.

Cleveland has an excess of bigs, so getting Wiggins now to help Sexton with scoring could make sense. Drummond for Warriors doesn't make a ton of sense, but it would be a money saving move. Again something like this would not include the Minny Pick.

You're too worried about Joe Lacob's bankroll. That's not the driving force behind most of the Warrior moves. They're not going to give away the salary slot that they worked so hard to get, the one that Wiggins is filling, for someone like Drummond or Lowry for the rest of this year. There is no chance of that happening.

Unlikely a player like Kawhi would leave the Clippers unless they fail again to at least get to the WCF this year.

Even then, I think he'd care more about playing in LA than going to another team that he thinks will help him win another ring.

The only contenders who may be willing to move a top forward would be maybe a team like the 76ers finally deciding they have to move off Simmons.

Or maybe the Celtics, though Brown is blowing up this season, find that they can't get over the hump and the prospect of giving Brown a super max in a couple of years when their current core has a ceiling of losing in the ECF.

These are all long shots but they may be enticed by the Minnesota pick, possibly getting a young potential all-NBA talent for a rookie contract for 5 years rather than having to max out these players beyond the contracts they currently have.

More than likely the Warriors end up using that pick, either in the 2021 or 2022 draft and probably keep Wiggins.

If they were to trade that pick, it would have to be for an all-NBA player, unless they add some protections, like 4-10 protected in 2021 and top 5 protected in 2022.

You want trades? Give up the Minnesota pick and Wiseman and either Oubre or Wiggins for Beal. Maybe also more picks in future years.

https://www.theringer.com/nba/2021/1/28/22254571/bradley-beal-trade-warriors

One of the trade scenarios is to trade Klay.

Obviously a volume scorer would help the Warriors contend but Beal is losing. A lot, despite his play.

So it would be trading one or two wing defenders for a strictly 2 who can fill it up. So it would be Beal and Curry taking turns?

Kind of like the Harden Rockets teams of the last couple of years.

Writer also made interesting point, among the 2021 prospects, only Cade would be able to contribute in the playoffs. The other top prospects would take years to develop into big time players, like Wiseman.

I really hope we don't punt Wiseman for Beal. That's not to mention that trading all of those picks leaves our cellar empty and no way to improve once Curry ages out. Plus we unload our two best wing defenders AND our only rim protector.

Its a realistic scenario but personally I hope we aren't so shortsighted. I really want to see Wiseman develop as a Warrior. They are sinking a lot of time and resources into him which makes me cautiously optimistic.

You might be right about the Warriors not wanting to spend this much every single year.

But most thought they wouldn’t spend this much this year. And almost everyone thought that Lacob wouldn’t use the TPE, which in turn cost him 80 million unless they somehow move him and that salary for another TPE. And I doubt any team under the cap could or would do that.

So Warrior fans who have listened to Lacob over the years and follow the situation closely realize that they are willing to spend. They have shown that they will and they have.

Also since they’ve been spending into oblivion......the Franchise worth has climbed to 4.3 billion. It’s the cost of doing business for a team and owner that will do what it takes to win.

5.21B as of this month.

Which means while they spend $172m this year on cap they made 910m in valuation. $723m gain with no venue revenues at chase.

Yeah Lacob is hurting.

What about Rozier for Oubre and Looney?

Rozier is under contract next year so he gives you another tradeable asset and he is averaging nearly 20 ppg on 42% from three on 7.4 attempts (41% on 6.7 last year). He can be third guard next season once Klay is back in a super 6th man role.

Hornets need a bit more size on the wing and depth at center, we have cap space this summer that would make resigning Oubre possible if he can figure his shooting out.

Rozier contract is pretty fair right now. Open market I do not see him getting less than 15 Mil, so getting him guaranteed for next year is a value. The Hornets would have to fight in fa to bring back Oubre so Looney is a nice throw in and he matches salary for the deal.

Seems pretty fair for both teams, obviously that doesn't mean it will happen but neither side is massively winning deal.

Return to Golden State Warriors
