Good? Clippers and Lakers are definitely beating the Warriors front office when it comes to FA's.

What moves exactly did you want the Warriors to do in FA?ILOVEIT wrote:Good? Clippers and Lakers are definitely beating the Warriors front office when it comes to FA's.
After drafting Wiseman, AND using the TPE on Oubre, their only options going into FA were the MLE and vet. minimums.
So let's start out with the center position. With the Warriors drafting Wiseman, it was going to be difficult to get a vet to come and take a limited role with an already clustered center rotation. Are you really broken up that the Warriors wasn't able to sign a washed Gasol? Also, how it is the FO's fault they couldn't lure Baynes who instead decided to go for more money and playing time on another team? If you're mad they didn't get a center, who were you even thinking about?
Let's move on to the other positions. Which FA are you mad they didn't go after? Because at the moment, with only the MLE, their choices were limited. Getting a seasoned vet like Wannamaker, as boring as the signing is, at least stabilizes things at the backup pg position. While the Warriors slowly transition Poole and Mannion, they at least have somebody they can trust at the moment. And even if the Warriors had an intention to use that MLE, it definitely wasn't going to overpay for a backup pg especially the choices that were available on the market. Look how hard it is to get a quality pg in the first place. At this moment, the Clippers don't even have a quality starting pg. Warriors don't have that problem.
What about we move onto the other positions. We're pretty set at the pf position. Even if we tried to go after somebody like JaMychal Green, what could we offer him that a team like Denver couldn't? Warriors don't have a starting spot for him.
We're already set at the small forward position. Even though Wiggins and Oubre will start, their minutes are going to be staggered.
A lowkey good signing that the Warriors made is actually Bazemore. We missed out on somebody like Wes Matthews. But Warriors weren't going to overpay for a bench player. Wes eventually went to the Lakers to fight for a starting spot as well as more money. We also have a multitude of players who can play at that 2 spot. As much as I wanted GR3, Bazemore actually makes more sense. I think his shooting will do better on the team, but what the FO seemed to value more is his vet experience and other intangibles like his defense. Also really helps that he was willing to take a paycut and offers from other teams to go to the Warriors to play with Steph.
So other than all that, what exactly did you want the Warriors to do? I have no problem being critical of Myers for being a passive GM, but I can't really find any issues with how this free agency went. Tell me moves you wanted him to make that are realistic. Just wondering.

We should’ve gotten AD to leave the Lakers and taken a vet minimum to join the Warriors, and also traded Wiggins for Giannis. Oh, and traded Damion Lee to get Huerter, but only if Atlanta threw in an unprotected #1 pick.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

This. Also, just because we speculated on what was possible through all these names over the long offseason doesn't mean any of them were really realistic.

How did Sacramento of all places beat us out for GR III for $2M? Is he not worth at least that? We still need wings. FO really must not like him for some reason. At least he didn’t go to L.A.

Supposedly 4 or 5 teams were interested in him, and the best he could do was a 1 year, minimum salary with only a partial guarantee? Teams had to be seeing a lot of red flags.

I wanted GR3 as much as anybody else. But look at the rosters of both teams, specifically the SF position, which is pretty much the only position GR3 can play, given his size and skill set (or, really, lack of ability to create off the dribble):
Warriors: Wiggins, Oubre
Kings: Barnes (who’s actually a PF), DaQuan Jeffries, and Vince Edwards
Barring injury, it looks like there’s almost no time available at SF for the Warriors (i.e. no real guaranteed role), whereas he can go into Sacramento as the clear second-string behind a guy who’s going to play some of the time at PF. In other words, he’s probably going to get about 20 minutes/game in Sacramento. And he’s at an age (26) where he wants to be able to show himself more for the future to earn a bigger contract next year. To me, it’s a clear business decision - take a little less money (more likely), but with a role that will earn you more money in the future.
And besides, we don’t know how much money anybody actually offered him. Me, I’d have paid him $3-4M/year, not gone after Bazemore, and been delighted. But we don’t know what anybody actually offered him.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

I'm convinced GR3 picked them because of playing time. Who exactly is their starting small forward except for Barnes who is more of a pf these days? Other teams who were contenders didn't have the minutes he wanted.wco81 wrote:I know but the Kings beat out the Warriors?

It is kind of an insult if the Warriors only offered a partially guaranteed min salary.
I get it because of the luxury taxes but they must think they wouldn't need him for the full season.
He's a better 3-point shooter than Wiggins or KO for his career too.

We don't know if the Warriors offered him anything. The Kings signed him for a partially guaranteed minimum salary. And even though stories said the Lakers and a few other teams were interested, it's a pretty safe bet nobody offered him a better deal.

Playing time is critical to any player not at the very end of their careers. I think people are obsessed with the tax implications of everything, but I don't think the Warriors are. They are aware of it of course, but a player that makes them better will get the money.
That said, the Warriors not being allowed to test every single person going in to games getting turned down seems absurd, and that means they lose a chunk of change. And now Santa Clara has shut down the 49ers ... hopefully that stuff doesn't come to SF.

I like GR3 but he wouldn't get much time on the Warriors at all, and Bazemore is a good pickup who was FAR more prized by the NBA in general so the Warriors fan base' love for GR3 does not reflect his real value ... a partially guaranteed deal in Sac is his real value.

GR3 played better on the Warriors than Baze did.
Base had a couple of good years and got a healthy contract. He competes or used to. Undersized as a defender and doesn't make enough shots.
He will probably have good stretches but I don't know if the team will have enough good corner 3 shooters this year.
