Its less than the usual, which means to get to his value (even last year) he has to make it up in other areas.. and he can't. So its not whats killing the team, but it is part of the problem

From the wiretap:

Contract Negotiations With Warriors Weighing On Klay Thompson

Nov 28, 2023 2:09 PM

Klay Thompson's contract negotations with the Golden State Warriors are weighing on him, sources tell Kendra Andrews of ESPN. Thompson will be a free agent this offseason if he and the Warriors don't agree to an extension. Thompson was last a free agent in 2019.

Thompson has been in a slump to start this season though he was in a similar state last season.

The Warriors and Thompson were reportedly far apart on extension talks as recently as October.

That would be a hellava way to get a new contract. I stink and I'll continue to stink until I make more money. Try that one out on your boss.

to be clear, I was critiquing the framing of it by RGM/ESPN... I really doubt Klay's side would say anything like that, or any legitimate source would. It's pretty ridiculous. It sounds like something a sports radio caller would say

I could see some players letting contract negotiations affect there focus and effort for the team. But klay has plenty of money.
It's funny that poole went the other way when he finally got his bag. His immaturity and feeble-mindedness was magnified by the power of 10.

His contract negotiations is getting in the way of him trying on defense and giving up on plays?

ESPN sources also say that some in organization were "annoyed" at Wiggins' lack of conditioning when he reported to training camp.

Reminds me of "Klay is seeking a max" out of Woj -- there's been nothing to substantiate it. Slater last night made an appearance on Light Years and said quite forcefully that Klay and the Warriors aren't discussing a max and Klay does not expect one.

Some of the sources stuff might end up being true, but often this stuff is a guess or just a rumor that is run with for clicks. I remember Elias's "CP3 will be starting" claim which many of us including me called bunk on, and ended up being bunk.

Warriors have always been great at shielding news from national sources

But also keep in mind that the majority of sources arent from the team, they are from agents and their people. Trying to tip the scales one way or the other for whatever reason

This Klay is playing bad because the extension's on his mind isn't news, its an educated guess from the outside. Think Klay is walking around saying that? Think his agent would? Neither the Warriors nor Klay benefits from the news.. cui bono is the ultimate rule of PR

Klay might be expecting an offer like what Draymond got. I’m certain both of them think they are the co-equals in the trio of the big 3, so they are both worth the same. Klay probably isn’t getting the same offer love as Dray, so it’s eating at him.

Klay is a pretty proud, and staunch kind of guy. Taking a hugely reduced offer may batter his ego into thinking that the league now views him as an end of career type player, which he clearly doesn’t think he is. This whole thing is a bit of a premature transition time for Klay, which his pride isnt ready to deal with.

Probably went like this:

Q: Do you think the contract issue is affecting his performance?

A: Geez, it must be weighing on his mind.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

He must have really been thinking about it against the Lakers the previous season as well.

Klay is done with most of the members of the Warriors board.

He's the scapegoat, even though in the Kings game, Curry and Green each had critical turnovers in crunch time in a 1-point loss.

Someone noticed he got 9 or 10 rebounds and one of the haters said the rebounds just fell to him, didn't have to work for it.

This board is comical, as if the team's problems all rest with Klay, as if swapping the minutes from Klay to Moody and the Warriors would be at the top of the WC.

If this team want to compete, then everything needs to be changed from the ground up. 36y old Curry can't be left alone on offensive end. At this stage of Curry career GSW must have other younger offensive optinion (1A/1B), who would take over in RS games to keep Curry fresh for PO.

1-8 games .530 .475 .913 4.3a 3.6t 30.9p
9-16 games .429 .394 .966 3.5a 3.9t 28.5p

The further it gets the more obvious it is. Klay and Green are role players at this stage with 25min playing time at best. This team suck not b/c of Klay, they suck on all levels (coach/size/defence/young talent/age/offence).

I wouldn't put too much stock in any of this. A lot of these same posters were raging that Wiseman wasn't getting enough minutes.
