Re: Around the NBA IV
Blazers get in but it looks like they're running on fumes, barely beating these teams.
Lillard has played a lot of minutes and has put in a superhuman effort.
Only chance is Dame and CJ has to score at least 70 a game in the series and the Blazers just outscore the Lakers, who continue to struggle shooting the 3.
But chances are LBJ and AD both get anything they want and they can throw enough bodies at Dame to take him out of the game, sort of like what the Pelicans did to them a couple of years ago.
Or what the Warriors did to them last year in the WCF without KD, scoring at least 110 in all 4 games and the Blazers at least had some wings who could play defense last year.
Of course I'd like to see the Blazers win but don't see it happening.

Gentry out in NOLA. They should add him back to the staff.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

That’s a good idea.

Would be a high salary since he used to be Assistant HC and that's what Brown has been for a few years.
Maybe Warriors need a defensive-oriented guy more than a offense guy like Gentry.

Remember when Brown had a rep as a defensive coach?
Gentry coming back would be fine with me since more input hasn't seemed to be a problem for Kerr in the past.
Adams kind is hard to find. A great mind for the game, a great communicator, and a guy not interested in moving up the chain of command to the top job.

Re: Around the NBA IV
How much longer would Adams work though?
He's in his 70s and Gentry is 65. Next season, NBA is holding out hope that they will have some amount of normal games, that is arenas across the country with fans in attendance.
Without a bulletproof vaccine, you wouldn't want these men to travel a lot.

Since Adams has taken a step back from coaching 24 7, the plan has been for Collins to take a larger role on the teams defensive strategy and working with guys one on one. Adams is still involved and has spoken about enjoying working with young guys who need all the help he can give. But he doesn’t travel with the team on road trips anymore.
So when getting critical or praising Warriors defense now has to factor in that Collins has a large role on how they approach each game and matchups.

Adams has already taken a step back and isn't traveling as much. Gentry can, in a few years, do the same.
Kerr and Gentry are really good friends so I fully expect they will talk about it.

And while I like Collins, I don't know that he's got the same kind of approach and brain that Adams has for seeing the game.

Well who does really? Adams has a reputation as the guru. And a unique guy in that he never craved being THE GUY. He enjoys teaching and process. There aren’t many like him.
If you’ve ever listened to him speak in long form interviews, the guy is very well rounded. He’s very eclectic. I love the dude and hope he continues to at least consult and add anything he can to the team.

Burks is playing big time minutes for the Sixers in their first playoffs game vs. Celtics.
Of course Simmons is out for them but he might be trying to create for himself since he can shoot jumpers.

Iggy scores only 4 points but plays 25 minutes in first playoffs game for Heat.
He's due $15 million next season and then a team option for another $15 million the following season.

Re: Around the NBA IV
Yeah I don't ever recall both top seeds losing game 1s.
Blazers hit big 3s down the stretch to win but the Lakers were blitzing both Lillard and CJ so they rotated the ball out of the double and got good looks for Melo and Trent.
I guess that's how the Lakers planned to defend the Blazers guards, if they started dancing and started to separate from the primary defenders, one of the big men would double and try to smother them.
That worked a couple of times but presumably the Blazers were ready in the last 4 minutes of the game when the Lakers kept trying to blitz Dame or CJ.
The Blazers centers didn't seem to hold that up tough for rebounds but it was closer than I would have imagined. Lebron got 17 rebound basically pushing people around and getting away with it.
Whiteside only had 8 rebounds, less than half of Lebron's total. But he actually got 5 blocks including 2 towards the end of the game.
Ugly officiated game. FTs ended up close for both teams but Davis got 17 attempts, a lot of them ridiculous gifts.

Lakers lose while Lebron becomes the first player ever to go 20/15/15 in a playoff game (seems surprising)

The Lakers look very beatable. Caldwell-Pope sucks, he litreally shot them out of the game at a few points. Both Davis and Lebron are suspect at the free throw line. Davis is also very suspect from the 3 point line and he's taking quite a few. They also look too dependant on an LBJ that is all of a sudden looking his age. Even though his numbers look eye popping, Lebron only played well in spurts.
The Lakers are in trouble.

Re: Around the NBA IV
Well a few things. The fact that the Lakers kept it close shows you how tough they are inside with McGee, Howard, AD, and LeBron. We would need another center.
With that being said our perimeter guys are better than the Blazers perimeter guys. The difference is they have Whiteside and Nurkic and we don't. The Blazers bigs held ground. Beating LeBron and AD will be about getting an interior defender. I hope we get Wiseman so somebody can contest some shots.
Even though the Rockets are a different team than the Blazers I really don't think the Lakers could keep up with the Rockets in a series.
Some good signs for us, and also a clear need for us.

Re: Around the NBA IV
I am looking forward to next season and I hope the core can stay healthy. I don't see any teams in these playoffs that really scare me, there are no juggernauts like the Warriors have been. They don't have to be core+KD level great to compete for a title.
