2 seasons ago Klay was on a heater in Jan on a team going nowhere and they didnt trade him for youth/picks.
Now its Wiggins. Get what you can for him, now. This will be the high-water-mark for what he will fetch.

and this sad little chapter reaches it's inevitable conclusion that everybody with more than 1 functional braincell could've predicted
just the consequence of an entire organization and fanbase drenched in hubris
It's like Iggy said - this FO thinks they did something. When all they did was inherit Steph Curry.
now all of y'all that have celebrated let's see you match that energy the next 15 years of brutal rebuilding and mediocrity. mark my words half this board are gonna die of old age before our next ring

they should have traded klay, but not for youth and picks. for another max player, at least to preserve that max slot.
they chose the cheap way instead. like with poole/paul the year after. they could've reloaded the roster for another 2-3 years run at a championship, they chose not to do it.
this organization - top to bottom - has been mediocre at best in the last 3 seasons. shame on them.

They botched 3 lottery picks in the last 4-5 years.
Nobody who was involved in those drafts should still have a job.

There was not a way to build a win now now team by trading Klay unless you package the future draft picks.

Re: The Rebuild Thread
I think 2023 was the missed opportunity after winning a Championship. We finished 6th, one game back on the 4 seed, and lost in a close 2nd round. Wiggins missed 47 games, Steph missed 26 games, had we been better health wise we easily would've grabbed homecourt. In 2023 we had the best net rating starting lineup and the best offense in the NBA even with Curry and Wiggins missing a combined 73 games. The core guys were younger and fresher. Klay was fresher and when he was off we had Poole. The mistake for 2023 was they banked on Wisemans progression and didn't add another big in the off-season. Then they failed getting more help at the deadline, namely bypassing on trading Kuminga for Anunoby. The team wasn't great defensively but Anunoby being a 1st Team All-Defense would've helped immensely.
In the 2024 off-season they traded Poole for CP3 thinking it was a locker room issue. They hoped CP3 would get Klay and Wiggins better quality shots and that would help. But Wiggins missed games again and Klay lost at least half a step. The issue with Poole wasn't his offense, it was his terrible defense. CP3 couldn't defend either which was his biggest issue here. So they swapped a young scorer for an old floor general while the vets continued to decline.
We brought in more depth and filled needs this off-season. But again, the vets continue to decline and the young guys have made little to no strides. The group doesn't have the top end talent and that's before you get to fit or need.

Re: The Rebuild Thread
I think the missed opportunity to jumpstart a rebuild with Curry was after 2023 season when they extended Draymond.

Re: The Rebuild Thread
GSW won 4 titles with Draymond being a significant contributor but he's also probably the reason we didn't win at least one more.
As bad as Poole could be, the team might be better off if the Punch never happened and he was still here, capable of explosions and going to the hole, which Curry no longer seems to be able to do as effectively as in past seasons.
Even if they decided to trade Poole away, without the Punch and the **** season that followed, he might have been a better trade asset.

I’d would say 3 instead of 4 titles. His decline started even way back then. He was bad vs the Celtics with the exception of one or two games.

For all the mess people talk about Dray getting benched in Game 4 of those Finals, people conveniently forget that he closed that game and made huge plays in crunch time.

Re: The Rebuild Thread
Warriors now in the lottery, #13.
The mock with that position has them picking Derik Queen, 6-10, 245 pound center at Maryland. He's 20.5 years old averaging 22.4/11.1 and 3 assists, 1.4 blocks.

Hey but they might climb in these mock drafts.

you could've flipped klay for lavine straight-up. that's your starting SG now who can be a secondary ball-handler with 20 points in his hands.

I would rather they take Liam McNeely out of UCONN. Good size at 6'8" who can dribble, pass, shoot and finish around the rim with both hands.

We just disagree about that team being a contender.

well, if you don't think that a SG averaging 22 points, 4 assist and 4.5 rebounds on a 50% shooting (44% from 3) wouldn't help this team being a contender....it's not that if you cannot get giannis or AD you cannot be a contender.

Re: The Rebuild Thread
People keep moving the goalposts. Improving the team is not the same as contending.
I can understand wanting to simply improve the team in the here and now, and be willing to give up future assets to do it. My viewpoint is more about the long-term prospects of the team.
People talk about wasting Steph's year. Well, what if there is no path to a championship this year? Should we set back the team's future to squeeze out 4 more regualr season wins and one playoff series for Steph?

Even if there was a win now move, say getting Giannis, I'm not convinced Lacob would want to take on the salary now, with Second Apron and so on.
