They are probably at the top of the scouting report when Steph is out. We don't really have any other "real shooters", so teams just sag off and take their chances. Most of the time it's going to work out for them. Sometimes one of our non-threats will have a good night and everyone will scream at the top of their lungs about "WHY DOESN'T MOODY GET TRADED AND PLAY THIS GUY MORE???"
Everything averages out over time. If you feature guys like Will Richard and Pat Spencer eventually if they hit enough open shots they too go to the top of the scouting report and then it's game over. Maybe that's what happened with Moody, I hope not. He had a hot streak to start the season and is coming down to earth. It happened to Klay all the time, we just don't talk about it 15 years into his career.
Moody's 3pt shooting isn't an issue, whether he's hot or not during any given stretch.
It's his inability to dribble, get his own shot, deliver a decent pass, rebound consistently or finish in traffic.
And he's not a versatile defender. He can't handle quick guards or big forwards.
He's limited. His talent level is just far too low for him to be anything much better than a useful 3D wing off the bench. If he's a starter, he better be your worst starter or your team likely isn't going to be a winning team.
