Don't know what was the point of even making a crack like that.

Bill Simmons also said that after the first title with KD, they had the ring ceremony and Steph got his last, even though KD was the best player in the Finals.

That probably was the start of him becoming disaffected.

Then the Warriors tried to overcompensate by having KD out for the Chase Center unveiling instead of Curry.

But too late by that point.

Myers was being harmless and just saying Steph was there for the s***ty years. Kerr was saying "mid-level" on the mic too. They were ribbing him. If that and the order the rings came out actually affected him then he's got major issues. But I think most of this "warriors did him wrong!" BS is hot takes. I bet once he's interviewed he'll have nothing but good things to say about Myers and Kerr. I think basically there were three issues 1) Warriors fans were all about Steph and Klay 2) Getting two rings didn't get him the accolades he was seeking 3) he didn't want to be in the Bay Area

KD signed a 3 plus 1 deal, player option for the the fourth year, 2022-2023.

So in July of 2022, he could opt out and either negotiate a bigger contract with the Nets or go to some other team.

He will turn 34 in September 2022.

Assuming he doesn't play much in 2019-2020 season, Nets are guaranteed to get 2 full seasons from him. That first season though, he may not be fully rehabbed. Rudy Gay played okay his first season after Achilles but he was much better the second season. Wes Matthews, some would argue, hasn't recovered at all.

So who will sign him in July 2022 if he opts out, when he's two months from turning 34? He will no doubt be expecting a max but what if he's looking for a 4 or 5 year deal?

There are going to be several huge free agents potentially hitting the market again in 2021, and then KD will have the option to go back on the market in 2022. Warriors will have no cap space to pursue any of the top guys directly, but this is where grabbing a max player in exchange for losing KD could play a huge role. We've kept enough salary on the books for players that don't include Steph, Klay and Dray that one or more of those players (e.g., Russell or whoever else eventually ends up with that salary) could be swapped in a sign-and-trade arrangement for a top free agent. Thinking Giannis here. It was a GREAT move - the only smart move, really - to grab Russell instead of letting KD's max salary slot slip away.

And oh, wow, did the Clips give up a TON of assets for only TWO guaranteed years of Kawhi and PG. They could get burned long-term, but ya gotta go for it when the opportunity arises.

The moral of this story is he threw away 80 mill and he’ll never win a ring with BKN imo. I understand he wants to be in NYC and all, but I think in 2022 he’s just going to be unhappy again and bolt for his 4th team.

So the story is that KD objected to the sign and trade for Russell.

He's the one who forced the first round pick, which we learn is top 20 protected, on a player that the Nets were going to have to renounce anyways.

He hasn't sent one of those "thank you" Instagram posts to Warriors fans has he?

If DLo and the Warriors didn't have mutual interest, KD and Kyrie would have needed to take several million dollar discounts each in order to get DeAndre Jordan his 4/40.

There was no other way to accomplish that goal unless they could have gotten Ainge to agree to a S&T with Kyrie. Good luck dealing with Ainge. Because of that, I think the top-20 protected first was overkill.

But the main thing was, he didn't want the Warriors to salvage anything.

Sounded like wanted to leave the Warriors as weak as possible. Probably a reaction to DRaymond's "we don't need you!"

I doubt ownership would be going out of their way to praise him and talk about retiring his number if he was a d**k on the way out.

Probably lightheartedly said "what, Russell for me straight up!?! Hell naw"... and "sources" ran with it.

I'm a KD fan, but all the stories that are coming out shows he isn't a stand up guy. Once you do Steph shady I can't rock with you.

He can't have objected very strenuously. The deal was worked out in a matter of hours, and we only had to give up a heavily protected pick. I wouldn't worry much about any of this. If he does harbor some bitter feelings for whatever reason, it will fade with time and he'll end up a friend of the W's organization.

Windhorst just trying to make something out of nothing to get clicks. Think this has more to do with capology stuff than KD's feelings.

The KD-haters love it, though.

As do the Warriors-haters, who would like to believe the Warriors were punished.

There's still people calling into NBA Radio saying "hurrrr durrrr the Warriors doctors misdiagnosed him!" even though 3 different sets of doctors gave him the same diagnosis.
