The Waive Charlie Bell/D League Call up Thread

Obviously, we all detest Bell like a sickness, and he's got another year on his effing deal so he's not valuable as expiring trade fodder.

So who should we be keeping an eye on in the D?

Sundita Gaines?
Kyle Weaver?
Antonio Anderson?
Keith McLeod? :D

Mylie? Old Rem? FNQ? You guys usually have the best handle on these guys . . . discuss

Tough right now. Past D league success stories were...in fact...the no-brainer of grab the guy scoring 25 a game,or the guy getting a lott of double/double games. So far...there's no on-court stuff to go by.

I would NOT expect much from the type of player who's basically had a few years in the NBA and didn't manage to earn some role. Perhaps there's a guy who just had tough breaks. I think,at the moment, center depth is about as important as what can be added at G. Reggie W is probably > anyone available whether as a SG or PG. However....there is ALWAYS a few guys who if given a shot can and will be a nice +. It's just that until the D is playing...not much to go on. In terms of PG/combo....Lin has more upside than most options. Walker Russell is a D PG who will dish a lot of assists but is not a big shoot/score guy. That makes him a bit like A Miles who GSW has looked at. It's hard to matter if you play 5 min get 2 pt,2 asst.

I perhaps should keep a notebook on the college guys who,Like Reggie W seem to need a look...yet slip through the cracks. Often, the guys who might ring a bell about now, don't show up in the D. Some decide instead to go Euro/international and are harder to follow.

As far as C depth, Gadz is contributing nicely. Adrien still has the wrapper on and Lou will be the #2 center on the depth chart when healthy.

The lack of guard/ballhandler/distributor depth is a bigger priority. Reggie seems to be a better passer when he's not being asked to think about being a passer. Lin is not a floor general. He's a hustle player who can bring the ball up court and be a disruptor on the defensive end (Sascha V.) I like the idea of a guy who has some size to give us a different look at a backup G spot, but as Floppy noted last night, Dorell Wright is not nearly as good of a ballhandler/playmaker as he thinks he is.

Our offense and gameplans are HEAVILY guard dependent. When one guy is not 100% physically, or in foul trouble, or just having a rough night, we have zero depth to backfill for a guy who needs to sit for a quarter or more. Which means the guys left carrying the load get no rest and that will take a major toll on our season. So I think we really do need to replace Bell with a viable rotation player in the backcourt.

I'm intrigued by Weaver's size and that he's put up some assist numbers in what is generally pretty crappy disorganized D league basketball. He was something of a defender in college right?

P.S. How is Shaun Livingston's knee coming along?

I wish we'd found a way to pick up Greivis Vasquez, but that was during our previous regime when 2nd round picks were sneered at and tossed out for nothing.

Patrick Mills for Rodney Carney straight up.

Drop Charlie Bell off in the ocean, throw bloody fish guts around him, leave.

We don't need another small SG, idk why getting Mills would be a good idea. We need a true PG to backup Steph. We also need a starting SF because, as all of Dorell's lovers will find out during Lee's absence, Ice Cream paint Job is a very good player but he's probably not the guy you wanna give 30 mpg to if you're aspiring for the playoffs.

Waiving Charile Bell is short sighted.

He could be great contract filler in an impact trade at the deadline.

Keep him around, just don't play him.

Just because if helps in the trade checker doesn't mean it is actually "great contract filler"

No one wants to pay Charlie bell to play basketball for them this year, much less pay him his option next year. He's dead weight, not filler. The only way someone takes Bell's contract is if they are getting the best player in the deal. And it would be stupid for us to be giving someone else the best player in the deal again.

Waving one of the best defenders on the team because he is struggling with his shot right now isnt exactly the smartest thing to do.

some of yall are some knee jerk reaction pieces of work...

If the dude was missing shots and not playing D id agree but the fact is when hes in the game hes contributing on the defensive end...the shot will come around.

Just as long as hes not expected to play PG, or initiate any offense I say hes fine.

We still need TJ Ford...but ill take Sebastian Telfair as well...hes a great Backup PG,doesnt turn the ball over, and has very very quick hands...ironically cant shoot either though...Kahn probably wouldnt give him up anyway though.

We didn't get the best player in the deal when we traded for him. They will do it if it saves them Millions of dollars off of another contract... exactly like we did with Maggette.

Bell is old crap. He isn't one of our best defenders. He isn't a good defender. He's crap.

Oh goodie. So you're saying we can trade Bell to get Maggette back?

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
