How bad will he be on defense? He looks pretty slow. Is he JUST a spot up shooter?

Someone said on draft night (could have been Brent Barry) that he looked surprisingly good at staying in front of quicker smaller guards during the draft workouts and that he actually expected the kid to be able to defend reasonably well.

His feet defensively aren't that bad and his length helps him close out when contesting shots and altering drives by smaller guards who beat him. He will have to work on his strength, something that will never be a plus for him.

i like klay thompson (mostly because i am going to wazzu next year) but i think that we should have drafted marcus morris. He would have been our best post up scorer (which is kind of pathetic), but more importantly he would have fought for a starting job at sf, which would ideally inspire dorrell wright to work on his defense. It would add depth at sf which we could definately use. Klay is not going to fight for a starting job, and i think it is a bad choice to draft someone with the sole purpose of providing depth. maybe that rumored biedrins trade will net us marcus morris... then we get depth at sf, and more cap to sign a better C

Like many players in this draft I have never seen him play. Lets hope J-West is right. It was a crappy draft so I don't care if he's out of the NBA in 3 years. As long as he's a capable bench player this is a huge win for the Warriors.

And just because he has slightly below average athleticism for a SG doesn't mean he will be a poor defender. If a 87 year old Grant Hill can shut down the NBAs quickest/best players than elite athleticism isn't needed as long as you have size and a good head on your shoulders.

I haven't seen him play, so I can't say if he's good or not. I'm going to wait and see how he actually plays against NBA talent to determine if he can play against NBA talent.

But Kevin Martin also has no wingspan. Klay is 6' 5.75" with 6' 9" wingspan and the same standing reach as Lou Amundson.

And for however much its worth Klay tested well in agility.

Look at Francisco Garcia, Evan Turner, and Andre Iguodala vs Klay Thompson.

I was just watching an old highlight reel of Martin's and his arms looked pretty long to me. You sure about that? Do you know what his wingspan is supposed to be? Nice that Klay has some length. I also noticed that Martin actually used to have some pretty nice hops (notice I said used to) which surprised me some.

Draftexpress doesn't list his wingspan, they just say it's below average... which I'm guessing means it's similar to his height without shoes.

Even though I'm a Singleton fanboy I'm psyched about our pick. Klay seems extremely confident, has a high bball IQ, and a great shot. Three things you can't really teach.

Yeah, I had his standing reach as his reach and his bf% as his standing reach.

+2. I liked Kawhi a lot for us to give us some forward depth and allow Reggie Williams to play behind Ellis instead of behind D. Wright. Happy with Klay and you're right about can't teach confidence and bball IQ.

I hope Klay lites it up his rookie year. I want assets for a Bogut trade.
