The Warriors should not give him an extension at this point in time. It only makes sense for them to wait on this decision until they can be assured he comes back at full strength and plays enough games to evaluate him.

Sure, if the extension is relatively cheap and / or options to opt out, go for it.
However:
He said his injuries haven’t made him consider taking less long-term money for a guaranteed payment, and he would understand if the Warriors needed to see him play extended healthy minutes before negotiations begin.

I extend him now for 7-8 mil a year.

Not sure what kind of provisions can be made to his contract, but I wouldn't fully guarantee anything and hopefully a team option to part ways a couple years into it.
I think he would ask for a lot more than 7-8 mil a year.

Honestly, I would extend him at this point -- he knows, with his injury, that he won't be able to push for a Westbrook-esque extension (which is probably how much he'd get were he healthy). The fact that he's developed excellent chemistry with Bogut, is about to start a family (so is obviously not so hot about moving around much) and that he's on board with leading this team means we need to lock him in.
7-8 mil is probably not enough, especially considering how much Ellis was payed. And I'd definitely take 60 games of Curry over 80 games of Ellis.

I think this is the perfect opportunity for an extension in many aspects.
1. He's currently injured so this it's probably the lowest stock he'll be in for a while. When healthy and productive he may want to ask for something like a monta contract 10+/yr
2. He can see the team that is being built around him, thus insuring the opportunity to win.
3. He may want to secure his future and at 7-9/yr gives us the flexibility of trading him if he is still injury prone as most teams will gamble on that kind of salary.

If our doctors think he's going to be healthy, of course we should extend his contract. Sooner the better.

Props to Curry for at least taking a reasonable outlook on proving he can get past his health concerns first. It will be interesting to see how much his agent will try to make us pay on the back end for insisting on a road test.

I'm hoping there is a reasonable period to road test him and Curry's camp stays positive throughout the process.

Don't extend him. Worst case scenario you are stuck with damaged goods before the extension even kicks in, if he plays well and earns a contract so be it we can match anything anyways.

4/32 with a team option for the 2nd year and a PO for the 3rd year.
Win Win if Currys unhealthy we terminate him the 2nd season if he is healthy he can opt out and ask for more money.

How do I say this emphatically enough, DO NOT EXTEND HIM! No more large contracts until this team has success. Period. This is why we have sucked for so long. The Warriors were always desperate and would throw big money at players just because they put up some numbers on a losing team. If the team wins and the chemistry is good, then fine, then it's worth it to pay the big bucks, but not until then.

I could throw a rock out my window and hit a good point guard in the head. No need to extend him.

I agree. It's not like we are going to save a ton of money by signing him early....Let Curry show he can lead the team and stay healthy and sign him at mid-season if the Warriors are 5 games over 500.

That's the best way to go. He is a question mark right now, but if he gets to his potential, 8 million a year is pretty good. Team Otion after two years, on a five year deal, would be real good.

A mid-season extension is not an option. The choices are (a) by end of pre-season, or (b) next summer.
