SF Options - Who do we want most?

Thread title. Who do we want most at Small Forward?

I'm a fan of Rudy Gay.

Deng easily. Gay is a big negative on defense, that's the last thing we need. Deng is young, a solid defender, can shoot from outside but is strong enough to get inside. Chicago was something like 17-9 in the regular season with Derrick Rose and that had a lot to do with Luol.

Add Deng to the mix and throw in a backup big or two through the draft and we're WCF contender if healthy.

Technically not a SF but I'd prefer JSmith or what about Wallace and Batum, two guys whoI think should be considered? Might opt for Batum, he'd probably be the cheapest.

After giving it some thought, I'm going to say Deng as well (based on the offer they say is currently on the table, Beans, #7, Wright for Deng, #29). I say this for a couple of reasons (probably different from most): Even though there are other players on that list that I would prefer over Deng (Granger being one as an example) 1) a major part of my selection is going to be based on what I have to give up in return or possibly take back.

The way this deal is constructed, I like it very much (especially since they'd be taking back Beans and we'd be getting another first round pick, albeit a high one). The pick gives us potential to make more deals and a nice additional asset. The other reason (a bit more subtle) is that Deng falls right into my 2-year plan as Deng's an expiring in just 2 years.

This is big to me in that this means that in two years we will be having just about every major contract (other than Lee's) dropping off the books giving us tremendous flexibility in the FA market should we choose not to keep any of these guys. Even Lee will be down to just 2 years left making him a viable trade piece should we desire to go that direction.

This gives us the next two years to further establish ourselves as a solid organization with a good nucleus of players who should be able to make a showing to the rest of the league and the players that will interest them in coming over as free agents in the future.

The biggest negative I see is the Deng injury concerns. If we did get him, that would mean that 3 out of our 5 starters are all in that same boat. With a total of 3 players who have injury concerns going into the season, I'd say that probably says that at least one out of 3 will be affected. However, I think it's a risk I'd probably have to take. Logo is know for being a risk taker and sometimes that's what you have to do to get you out of the doldrums.

This is of course unless we somehow got a shot at MKG.

Should add MKG to the poll, but out of those options I'd say Deng.

MKG would be my first choice since he's 18/19 years old with the upside to be better than any of those guys, and is probably already as good of a defender and rebounder as Deng, if not better.

1. MKG
2. Deng
3. Igoudala (would be higher if a bit younger)

No thanks to Gay or Granger.

I'm a fan of starting Dorell Wright or Richard Jefferson... it would mean that we either upgraded our backup G or backup PF/C spots in the draft and free agency.

Iggy and Deng are elite wing defenders who also contribute on offense (as opposed to Tony Allen/Thabo who are elite wing defenders but 5th options on offense). Adding them would be a significant upgrade. They do have some short/long-term health issues, especially Deng who's apparently putting off surgery to play in the Olympics and is likely to miss the early part of next year (and obviously things could go worse.

Granger is a solid improvement, but not a huge deal.

Gay would be a huge mistake. He's not that efficient on offense and a poor defender. Add in the largest contract of the bunch and that's just not a good ideal.

SF improvement isn't a must. Any 2 of Rush/Wright/Jefferson can cover 48 mpg at the position solidly. Using assets supposedly earmarked for a SF upgrade to help out the rest of the team is probably the best idea. Backup bigs are a huge need. Backup guards also need improvement. IMO Lee is a good sell-high candidate.

Where is my "any of them but Gay" choice?

Lebron James.

If not, then my stance has been and will be rolling with Rush as starting SF with RJ, McGuire and Wright backing him up to give coach multiple options games, and focusing all of energy into acquiring 2-3 big time backup 4/5's, and a vet backup PG.

Iguodala and then GWallace. Iggy is the most allround and can play SG as well, fitting in best. Deng would be alright also.

Would we consider Moute?

http://www.journaltimes.com/sports/bask ... f887a.html

From article:
"A more reasonable target for Golden State is Milwaukee’s Luc Mbah a Moute. On the surface, he could perhaps be the best fit of all for the Warriors. If you examine the composition of the Warriors’ starting lineup, they have an arsenal of scorers. What they truly need is a prime-time defender on the wing and there are few better than Mbah a Moute."

Would a package of Mbah a Moute and the 12th pick be enough to nab the Warriors’ seventh spot, along with another player for salary-cap purposes? Perhaps."

I haven't watched Moute much -- anyone know how he compares to McGuirre?
