How real is the Lakers Conspiracy?

I've generally taken an Occam's Razor approach to this whole thing... we all know the Lakers get favourable calls, but I never thought it was the tune to being a systemic thing. Then I saw this stat: Over the last 10 games LA has become #1 in free-throw advantage and Utah has become #29 after being #12 the whole year.

10 games out of 82 is enough of a statistically significant sample that the discrepancy from the regular season numbers is unsuual. So is this conspiracy a real thing?

Yes. Also the baffling game determining calls that keep going the Lakers' way, not just for games they're in but for other teams in the race, ever since the Dante Jones no call.

The stats support it.

The actual calls support it.

The logic and money trail supports it.

I didn't believe in intentional game fixing until last night. And I was a little baffled that Utah got so fewer free throws on us. That never happens. They just killed us with a better game all around.

I don't know why sports reporters don't call more attention to this. What's good for the gander?

At least Kobe is gone. I would feel bad but I feel no sympathy for match fixers.

Well technically it's Stern and the NBA doing the fixing, I doubt the Lakers have anything to do with it (although they are among the most prolific whiners/floppers in the league which I believe does add up to a few wins over time).

It's not game-fixing...it's a gentle nudge in the right direction for marketing purposes.

Will someone please think of the league executives?!

The NBA has turned into damn joke. Stern and the gang probably lost their **** at the thought of the Lakers missing the playoffs and how much potential money they're gonna be missing out on if that happens, so they had to step in and do work.

Well since revenue sharing is in place and the lakers just signed that billion dollar tv contract wouldn't it be in the best interest of the league and teams that they milk the tv revenue the lakers get for being in the playoffs?

The problem is they dont deserve to be in the playoffs. If its gonna be like this, just give the Lakers an automatic playoff spot every year and be done with it. Im **** sick and tired of seeing this type of ****.

Oh hell yes, the NBA is making sure the Lakers get in the playoffs at the expense of the Jazz, who are actually better than them.

Being a Jazz fan for the past couple weeks has been painful. I understand one or two games where you're getting the bad-end of the whistle, but my God it's been every game and it's been brutal. Then I turn around and see the Lakers get an insane amount of b/s calls game after game and... ugh. Very frustrating. Makes me wonder why I even bother cheering when the outcome has already been decided by the league.

Who would have thought that after a season Warriors and Jazz fans would become each others' support network? Good luck with Minny and Memphis guys.

Feel bad for u guys. U deserve to get in and yet you won't because Utah is a smaller market. So much for the lockout and trying to make things more fair for smaller market teams. :nonono:

The past 2 weeks have been funny, going from laughing at Jazz fans and the whole karma thing to truly feeling for them, because the reffing has been pretty bad.

I hate conspiracy theories so I'll leave that alone, but the facts are the facts: The Lakers have benefit from refs lately, and the Jazz have not. Nothing we can do really, but just remember one thing people who want to blow up guys like gumby and other's NBA highlight vids: all you are really doing is showing the NBA where gumby and others put their copyright-violating videos are.

This one was posted well before our game, but damn I might have to revise my thinking that its just Superstar reffing....

this ^

plus just typical Lakers/Warriors reffing, when it was Monta not getting calls it was even worse. He would get in the lane and get shoulder checked into the ground for no whistle and Kobe would get breathed on and get FTs.

but that doesn't make it any better, I'm still f*cking steaming because of Friday nights game. I honestly told my Lakers fan friend to stay away from me for a few days.
