Standings Prediction Contest 2017-2018

Post#1 » by Chris Porter's Hair » Sun Sep 24, 2017 6:01 pm

I may actually be getting this going sooner every season. If a few of you could at least try setting your picks and making sure it isn't broken sooner rather than later, that would be great. If it seems to us like it works, I'll probably post it to the General Board and we can increase the participants.

Same deal as past seasons. You can go here:

http://carpediemjuggling.com/dave/warriors/prediction

to try to predict the standings for the the Western and Eastern conference this season. At the end of the year, things are scored by taking the difference between your prediction for each team and their actual position. Clearly lower scores are better. So if you predict the Clippers to be 3rd, and they are 9th, you get 6 points. Predict the Lakers to be 13th and they are 15th, 2 points. Lowest total score when we add up the 15 teams in a conference wins.

Undoubtedly some of you will have forgotten your password. I think I built something to make it easier for me to help with that, but I don't remember what it was heh... So when somebody forgets, let me know and I can try to figure it out. And of course when somebody finds a bug, let me know that as well. And don't spend a bunch of time trying to find some security hole. You'll succeed and just waste my time. It is a stupid basketball prediction game, not your bank. Good luck!

So far it looks like only one person other than me has entered predictions. Have people had enough, or not noticed the sticky thread?

Just noticed it today. But will wait until closer to the season starting.

I don't know, I don't think all of the teams in the East suck. Some of them are quite the opposite . . . they blow.

after the top 6 in the east I have no idea who to pick, all these teams are terrible. I can't believe two of these teams are going to make the playoffs.

I like the idea that the east will just decline to send an 8th team to the playoffs

That's an excellent thought, but maybe also consider making the 7th & 8th Seeds in the East the #1 and #2 Seeds in the G-League Playoffs.

(In the G-League EAST, obviously -- don't want them getting too big for their britches.)

Trying to remember how this works. I wrote it a while ago. It *looks* like if you have no password and you fail login, then it will let you put in a password. Can you try logging in and just put nonsense for your password and see what happens?

Great, thanks!

I managed to squeeze-in my two (winning) entries. :)

I'm gonna be the first ever to score the absolute ZERO.
(Or the first one over 100 points... )

Looks like the automatic scoring is broken again. I'll try to take a look sometime soon

Fixed. I'm leading in the west despite only having one team right. In the east I suspect Orlando and Cleveland are hosing most of us.
