Would you break up our core 4 for Kawhi?

Post#1 » by cdubbz » Fri Mar 23, 2018 1:43 am

Just a thought.

If the Spurs were looking to move Kawhi this off season would you want the Warriors to trade for him?

One scenario is if we win the Championship would you trade for Kawhi?

If we DONT win the Championship would you trade for Kawhi?

Probably not but I was just thinking this morning that if for some reason KD doesn’t re-sign with us, Kawhi sure would be interesting. Kawhi and Draymond would be a beastly defensive tandem.

I'd trade for him either way. I love Klay, but I'd move him for Kawhi. Same with Draymond.

Curry, no, Durant, probably no.

it's hard because it's amazing how well the big 4 of curry/kd/klay/dray fit in well together. We won't ever see another big 4 that fits in that well together ever again. Curry/Klay is the perfect back court and then you have KD who can literally do everything and Dray the defensive stud and the glue that keeps it all together all while being unselfish offensively.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post so I hope you don't mind if I chimed in...

But among the 4, I'd let go of draymond.

Kawhi is more athletic, a WAY better scorer and knows how to play the game the smart way and doesn't make too many mistakes.

He will be great on any team and on this one, where he doesn't have to take on too much of the load, I think he'd start focusing on his passing and defense.

Draymond, in my opinion, needs a bunch of Allstars around him.

Tough question. But I think I would stand pat at this point. What's up with his leg?

Keep our current starting core together. All they could use is a decent athletic defensive minded center. (who can hit free throws)
The second unit could use a scoring punch at the 2, and some defense and athleticism in general. no dis to Andre, because he can play d. We get a microwave off the bench and tighten up the d, and this team is winning several more.

Kawhi is great but i dont think he is healthy enough to replace Draymond. Draymond is our DEFENSE. He is much better than Klay so i dont mind having him on the team

For Klay or Draymond, yeah probably (as long as Kawhi is healthy), but the loss of both--I don't think Kawhi is good enough to make up for that. You also have to think--where are you going to play him? He's definitely NOT a 4 or a 2. For example, KD has higher positional versatility (can play 3-5) but the two of them on the floor together I think would be an awkward fit.

Why change what works. If Klay or Draymond secretly say they want out you trade for young pieces and picks.

Leonard has been injured and you have to pay him big.

Yes, in both scenarios. San Antonio can have durant

Fine.

Curry/Biedrins for Bogut/Filler. Done and done.

Nope. Next question.

It’s hard to find anyone in the league that would improve your core 4 guys but Kawhi is one. Durant is probably a slightly better player in a vacuum, but Kawhi is a much better defender and probably a little better as a spot up shooter. If I were you I would do a Durant for Kawhi deal in a heartbeat.

I don't want to touch Curry, Klay and Green. They got the Warriors to the top and for sentimental reasons I want them to retire as Warriors.

I prefer the passing offense but when the playoffs comes and the uncalled intentional off the ball fouls by the guys defending Klay and Curry successfully disrupts the Warriors passing rhythm then it is good to have an ISO guy like Durant.

Stars like Durant tend to play in the middle off the floor. In some ways Barnes playing in the corners was better for the spacing then Durant playing in the middle of the floor. Kawhi works in the corners more than Durant does. Somebody less talented than Durant (like Brandon Rush, Young or Casspi) could set up in the corners with Curry/Klay/Green for 15 minutes per game so that Durant can play with the bench players.

Kawhi might help the Warriors get their defensive focus back. But that is probably not necessary. if Curry decides he wants to focus on defense then everybody els would probably follow.

I would consider trading Durant and Livingston for healthy Kawhi and Danny Green but I would not want to replace Durant with Kawhi straight up. Does signing Kawhi instead of Durant give the Warriors money to sign somebody else?

Warriors 5 through 15 are not looking good with the big 4 injured. The Warriors bench is looking like a weakness instead of a strength.

Kawhi's acting like a bigger drama superstar this season than all 4 of these players have acted their entire career.

Don't think his offense would work playing with Steph and KD.

You're kidding right? He's a team guy in regards to offense who can carry a load if needed. He would fit seemlessly. However, you could not expect him to play like Klay does on offense. He wouldn't be constantly running around using screens like Klay does. So you'd want to add a similar offense guy who could replicate that along with Steph.

All moot though, Klay fits so good and has the perfect teprament to play with 2 superstars.
