This is great news for the Warriors. Kevon is a stud -- playing hurt to help the Dubs almost win another ring. Plays D, rebounds, and has improved offensively each year. Love that he's coming back for another 3 years. Now let's see if the Dubs can get another quality big with the MLE.

We know that answer already and the answer is no. No cap space left.

Why would Livingston being cut help with salary? Are the Warriors not over the salary cap?

We have Looney's Bird rights so can't the Warriors match any offers for Looney?

What we could do with Livingston is pick up his option and combine him with draft picks and cash in a trade for another player.

We are well past the lux tax. well past the soft cap. Its the hard cap we are up against and there is nothing you can do to surpass the hard cap.

I never thought Looney would sign for 5m per

This. Mins only at this point.

I think guys like Farried, bringing back Bogut, Vince Carter, Jeremy Lin etc are who we can target. We have a lot of youth we could use some vets to round out the bench.

I really hope Big Bob brought him a briefcase with cash on the side because my man Looney deserves more than Thomas Bryant and he got 3/35!

I think about this all the time. Other than a whistle blower there is pretty much nothing to stop an owner from circumventing the cap with cash if he really wanted to.

I have my doubts. The penalties are harsh, the player has to disguise it somewhere, the owner has to hide it. Sounds like too much trouble. Besides, in this case, I don't think the market was there for Looney. Great on the Warriors, but can't shoot, undersized - too many other bigs available.

You may be right regarding the market. But I wouldn't consider him undersized with a 9'2'' standing reach. A bit below average for starting Centers but considering that Looney can easily stay on the court when teams size down during the game, he would immediately become one of the bigger small-ball 5's.

As far as shooting is concerned, I still have the hope that we'll soon see that becoming a regular part of the game. He has shown shooting potential in college and recently has been more confident in his midrange jumper à la David West. He's a hard worker, so I believe he'll soon start shooting open 3's. That doesn't make him a good shooter of course but can help to open up the game a bit.

Anybody who plays well in the playoffs and Finals for 2 years in a row deserved to get paid.

Then I see guys like Reggie Bullock getting paid and I have to laugh.

If The Loonster is our little secret, then so be it.

It seems the third year is a player option.

Happy to have him back. He’s great in the warriors system. That contract is a bargain for the team.

I love being right.

I said back when he was still injured, that he was a strong defensive player.

Now hopefully he can showcase a bit more offense.

I am cautiously optimistic that you are right about his shooting. Couple of data points, with the caveat that we are dealing with small sample sizes:
Looney has been a terrible FT shooter; 59% for his career. But in the playoffs, he pushed his FT% up to 72%. His overall shooting in the playoffs was outstanding as he shot 69% from the field compared to 63% in the RS. And his FG% from 16 feet out to the 3-point line was an excellent 52%, giving hope that he could become a midrange guy similar to D-West. West himself shot 51% from that distance in 2017 and 41% in 2018. I am hoping for a Mo Speights-type progression where Mo developed his midrange game first and then extended his range out to the 3-point line.
