Young guys

Post#1 » by Dom801e » Sat Jul 6, 2019 2:54 am

What do you all think the upside is for all the guys on the Summer League roster is?

Here are mine.
Poole:
Looks like an energy off the bench type a guy. Best case is probably 6th man. Not really a fan of his game.

Evans:
I think he can eventually be a solid role player. Not really a specialist but no big holes in his game. Best case is 3 and D starter.

Paschall:
Seems undersized to be good rebounder and not quick enough to be a SF. May turn into a hustle guy off the bench. 3 point capability is a plus.

Bowman:
I think he’s an NBA player. Good handle. Decent passer. Not afraid to shoot. Seems like a 3rd pg, but could eventually be a backup.

Smailagic:
I’m highest on him. Plays with a bit too much finesse inside, but he has tenacity which is a huge positive for a young big. Good handle for a big. Hustles for rebounds. Willing to set screens. Looks for his own shot. I think he can be a player this year when someone else is out or in foul trouble. I think he’ll be starting by 2020.

I think Smailagic has the most potential of the young guys. Smailagic reminds me of a young Radmonovich.

Poole still reminds me of Nick Young, his 6-18 night further confirms this.

Paschall's ceiling is Jason Maxiell to me.

Evans actually looks like a potential lockdown wing defender masquerading as a point. Guy has really no feel or skills for point guard. I watched McCaw play point in summer league live and have been watching Evans, McCaw had more potential because his first step and burst to the hoop was quicker. Evans may run himself out of the leaugue if he doesn't switch to small forward.

Not high on Bowman, Quinn Cook is way better.

Paschall is really the only one I'm expecting to have an immediate impact.

Evans still needs a lot of work on his jumper and his decision making if he's going to play point guard. Poole is going have to prove he can stay on the floor defensively.

Smiley looks the best IMO...he's just wayyy too young to really see making an impact this year for us

Paschall will probably get some minutes considering his age and the fact that he already has an NBA body, Poole will get burn just because we're so shallow at guard.

Evans is just terrible...they're trying hard to turn him into a lead guard type but he's failing miserably, he's just not it

Paschall is going to be the best of the group. Already has an NBA body, Great motor and Defensively he's so far ahead of all of them. He just needs to work on his ball handling.

i don't know, i know he's listed at 6-6 but dude seems closer to 6-4 if anything, he'll get abused vs. NBA 3s especially if they force him to switch on the 4s...he's also not really a spot up guy so I don't know if he's a 2 either, and his lead guard skills in terms of pushing the pace, playmaking or beating guys off the dribble is almost nonexistent

just not a fan of the guy at all...id much rather give the ball as much as possible to to Poole/Bowman and have them run offense just to get them somewhat ready for the RS.

Agreed. I've noticed at the top of the key he's picking up his dribble every time. That's fine sometimes but you don't want to make that a habit all the time.

Wish we could have kept Cook instead of picking up Bowman.

Smailagic has skills but has a long way to go, don’t see him contributing till 20-21.

Don’t know what to think about Paschall. He has a weird game. Has a good motor though. If he can shoot near 40% from 3P he’ll be an NBA player.

Poole is fearless and can get his own shot. I think he’ll contribute this year. Can’t play a lick of defense though, so Ron Adams needs to do work.

I’m fine with Evans as the last guard on the bench this year, but I think that’s pretty much his ceiling. He’s just so effing boring to watch.
