2013 Warriors vs. 2020 Warriors

Post#1 » by WarriorGM » Tue Oct 1, 2019 10:44 pm

Okay so I saw the training camp roster—and it looks grim. Also heard Kerr and Adams weren't thrilled about the defense they saw.

Is this upcoming year's roster better or worse than the one Curry delivered to the second round in 2013? Is it too much to expect Curry to perform another miracle with this team?

I like the 2020 roster more. The NBA is a lot different now than 2013 also.

It's going to be up to Draymond to elevate our defense.

2020 Dubs. In 2013, the player with the second most minutes/game behind Steph was David Lee. This year it will be D-Lo or Draymond; big upgrade. And Harrison Barnes was 5th in minutes/game at 25 but only averaged 9.2 ppg. Even with our SF position "unsettled" (sounds more polite than "a mess") until Klay returns, there is a good chance that any combination of 2 players among McKinnie, GR3, and Burks could exceed 9 ppg. Bogut and Ezeli combined to average 8.2 ppg; good chance that both WCS and Looney can each surpass that (although we will miss 2013 Bogut's defense). Plus 22-year old Klay wasn't really Klay yet; he only averaged 16ppg despite playing over 35 minutes/game. I expect D-Lo will surpass that scoring average this season.

And despite all the questions about our bench in 2020, we didn't get big production out of the likes of Biedrins, Brandon Rush, Jefferson, Bazemore or Jenkins in 2013. Landry was solid in 2013; Looney should match or exceed his production assuming WCS is the starter but it will be a stretch for Spellman to match Landry's numbers.

Was that the year where Jarrett Jack was scoring 20?

Jack averaged less than 13 ppg in 29.7 minutes/game. He was 4th on the team in minutes/game behind Steph, Lee, and Klay. Barnes, Bogut and Landry rounded out the group that averaged over 20 minutes/game. So Jack was playing over 20 mpg but not averaging 20 ppg in terms of scoring.

Clicked on your guys' forum by mistake but thought this was an interesting thread.

It really depends which Draymond you get IMO; if it's last year's post-ASB version than its the 2020 Warriors. On another note, I remember watching you guys in the 2013 playoffs and being sure that Barnes was the guy that would emerge as the second star next to Curry. Crazy how everything happened in hindsight.
