McKinnie Cut

Liked his effort plays but his lack of consistent shooting and creating off the dribble limited his chances of making the team especially with the recent off-season additions and injury to the bigs for the dubs.

This was probably the cleanest, simplest way to add Chriss but still concerned about our lack of depth at SF. If Burks would actually play and show that he can be a positive then maybe I'd feel better, but at this point I'm not sure Burks even exists. Him actually being a Warrior may just be fake news for all we know. This puts a lot of pressure on GR3 to be productive; I hope he's up to the task.

Think McKinnie will get claimed by someone on waivers. A non-guaranteed, minimum salary is about the least risk possible.

I'm okay with it. We'll miss his rebounding but his defense is pretty bad.

Not disagreeing with you but the defense of Burks, Lee or Poole (at this point in his career) isn't any better. GR3 has the potential to be better with his athleticism but he needs to show it on the court. And as you said, none of those guys can come close to Zo on the glass.

Please get better soon, Klay!

I think this opens up more minutes for Paschall if anything.

Waiting for Looney and McCauley-Stein, they are desperate for size. This seemed pretty inevitable after Chriss played well.

While this is true, defense is not the only thing that matters. If someone plays poor defense, he better bring something on offense – and McKinnie really doesn't. Burks is much better at creating shots, Poole has much better scoring instincts and Lee is flat-out better at shooting the basketball. All of them are more skilled on the ball. Also, all of them have had less chances with us thus far and none of them could be cut like McKinnie and open up space to sign Chriss unless I am completely mistaken.

So the question is: does McKinnie's rebounding strength – along with all other shortcomings – warrant keeping him over Chriss? And the question after this pre-season – along with what we knew about McKinnie already – should be a resounding ‘no’. The only way for McKinnie to be more valuable for us would have been as a solid wing defender who can knock down open shots. But in the end, he's more like an undersized 4 on defense who cannot shoot reliably at all, even when open from the corner. That's just not going to cut it.

Damn, I liked McKinnie but GS needs Chriss more. Casualty of circumstances. Would have been Evans if he wan't drafted

He should have worked all offseason on his shot.

Was there any evidence of improvement?

Yeah the Warriors draft picks always get a really long leash even if they don’t show much. Hopefully the Warriors don’t have to deal with the hard cap situation ever again....It doesn’t allow for much flexibility with the roster.

Sucks for McKinnie, he seemed like a good guy. I hate cutting nice humble guys all to make room for a reported knuckle head like Chriss, so I really hope Myers see's a big change in Marquesse to warrant this.

This season is going to be really different. A lot of fair weather fans will be jumping ship shortly.

The Dubs now have only 5 players on the roster from last year (1 of whom will be unable to play for most of the season), that's nuts.

McKinnie seemed like a good guy but he really only provided help on the boards. His 3 point shot and his defense are not good enough and he is already 27 years old. Don't see him suddenly improving and having more upside than Chriss.

It's kind of amazing that 15 teams, half the league, have a hard cap restriction the season, but only two, the Warriors and the Heat, are close enough to it for it to really affect them.

Pretty common with the Spurs in their 20 year run. Core stayed together, filler pieces constantly changed.

With Chriss getting McKinnie's roster spot, we have to be close to if not the youngest team in the league.

Curry - 31
Klay - 29
Dray - 29
Burks - 28
WCS - 26
Little Big Dog - 25
Russell - 23
Looney - 23
Paschall - 22
Evans - 22
Spellman - 22
Chriss - 22
Poole - 20
Smailagic - 19

Average age: 24.3 yrs

Excited for Chriss! Still very raw but if Chriss is learning the game to match his raw ability then we have a nice young guy.
