He’s a pipe dream as noted previously, but he’s my pipe dream lol

My other pipe dream is Baynes or Dragic. Baynes probably the most realistic.

With the NBA climate we might get lucky.

My TPE pipe dream is Covington. The only hope is that Houston has to cut money. But for what he does his contract is so friendly that I can’t see Houston letting him go.

Winslow is kind of a pipe dream. But his injury history is getting scary. Getting a Looney vibe there, but he’s fit great.

I wanted Dragic, but his performance in the bubble playoffs looks to be pricing him out of our range : (

Anyone think Gallo would look to win and take the MLE? One MLE year before he finds his last multi year contract.

He’s made over $130million in his career. He’s usually gone 3yr contracts and could see him seeking one last 3yr deal where he ties it up around 35/36yo.

I hadn’t thought of him for our MLE but I’m intrigued. I was hoping to add more athleticism and defense to the roster but he is a smart, team player who could add scoring off the bench with the second unit.

The Warriors don't want to lower their cap situation if they can use it to pay talent. Once it's gone they can't use it anymore.

Using Johnson's expiring contract would be a backup situation in case the Warriors can't find a deal they like.

Let's use Gordon Hayward as an example. He doesn't fit into our TPE because his PO is over that amount. Even if he did, he would become an UFA after one year.

If we get James Johnson, then we have around $16 M expiring contract for the TPE. The Ws send a SRP to the TWolves for them to make the deal. We can use Johnson's expiring to make a deal with the Celtics assuming they would be looking to get rid of Hayward's contract. Hayward would have to agree, but he could opt out and rework a deal so that it is 3 yrs at around $17-18 M per (or whatever he thinks he can get on the open market and it also fits the trade rules). Then, the Warriors can deal Johnson's expiring and add a SRP to the Celtics for their troubles. The Ws end up with their man Hayward. Hopefully, he's still another Klay.

This doesn’t work, because if the Celtics / Hayward do as you suggested, they’re signing him and immediately trading him for Johnson + the pick, so it’s a sign-and-trade....... and if the Warriors get him via a sign-and-trade, they’d be hard-capped and would have to get rid of other players. Ain’t happening.

Okay, I think this is true because the Warriors are on the lux tax apron. My point was converting the TPE to an expiring contract allows for more flexibility in signing an impact player. Thus, they will be limited to using the TPE for an impact player and the market is limited for that. Also, they won't be able to get any cap relief the following season if they use the TPE. I'm for managing the cap better even though Joe Lacob said he would pay lux tax for an impact player. It doesn't seem likely they'll get him via TPE. Usually, we see that the TPE goes unused.

SIAP.

This is a fugly situation to my way of thinking because I rather manage the cap. Still, Lacob has said he'll pay the lux tax for an impact player. Without the S&T, I don't think the Ws will be able to sign Aaron Baynes, who's making $5.5 M this season and will be an UFA. Can't use the TPE. Signing him outright for his market value will make their lux tax payment ginormous. If Myers is able to work out a trade, then they can get Myles Turner or Aaron Gordon who make above the TPE -- https://www.forbes.com/sites/patrickmurray/2020/06/24/who-could-the-golden-state-warriors-get-with-their-172m-trade-exception/#a1e0be475cdb.

Otherwise, using the TPE + #2 pick, they may be able to get Domantas Sabonis, Jonathan Isaac, or Kelly Oubre. The first two, I think most of us would go for, but it's pie-in-the-sky; Their teams won't do it. Oubre I don't know (stinkface). I can see him being available. For TPE + first round pick swap, it's Ricky Rubio as backup PG -- https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/02/17/mailbag-deciding-who-the-warriors-should-acquire-with-their-traded-player-exception/. And the following year, the Warriors will be struggling with a bigger lux tax situation.

I think we could go for Domantas Sabonis or Jonathan Issac and Lacob paying the lux tax and hoping Chase can re-open for next season. Maybe the Knicks will offer their new franchise center Mitchell Robinson and 2020 FR pick-swap. Otherwise, I suppose the Ws may consider drafting James Wiseman, but he may not be able to start for 2-3 years.

Maybe we convince him 1 year, 1 championship run, and then go find your last contract.

We need a hired gun off the bench. Just a bucket getter.

I'd love to add Gallo on a deal, Gallo and Barton would be a VERY good offseason. I would hope having them would convince Kerr to play Klay and Dray under 30 minutes a game.

Personally I would love it, but the guy just averaged 19ppg on 60% TS last year. He is easily worth more than MLE

Oh yeah, huge long shot and pipe dream. A big multi year contract far outweighed 1 yr MLE and a championship run.

I am praying we can land one of these guys like Gallo, Dragic, Baynes. Gallo is probably the least likely because he is the most valuable player of the bunch and would have to battle wiggins/draymond for minutes at forward.

I still don't get the Baynes love. He isn't an elite rebounder or rim protector, is getting pretty old, and is only good for like 20 minutes a game (not to mention didn't play in PHX bubble run). Plus he injured Steph. Would I take him over Looney? Sure. But I want the TPE and MLE used on dudes that can play big minutes.

I wonder how much time Looney missed last year was because of "injury" and not being actually injured.

Team needs to add some vets no question, but I'd rather use the TPE for a wing over a big.

Phoenix had a really nice run at the beginning of the year after Ayton got suspended with Baynes starting. Their offense really hummed with Baynes at the 5. He sets really good screens and is a credible floor spacer at the 5, which is pretty necessary next to current day Draymond. Baynes didn't play in the bubble, if I recall, because he got coronavirus and it took him a while to get right. But him playing only 20 minutes a game max is fine! He'd be good against bigger bruising centers for spot matchups and keeping his minutes low would let Chriss, Looney, and Dray eat the rest of those minutes.

With the tensions mounting in Boston between Smart and teammates he may just end up being available.

Just need Miami to keep on stunning them.

I'm curious who you (or anyone) like for a center at the minimum. As far as I know, these are all the FA centers.
