2021 Roster

Post#1 » by Coxy » Fri Feb 7, 2020 7:53 am

So, what's your ideal roster for 2021 now that we have acquired Wiggins?

For me, I'm hoping we get Wiseman in the draft. Here's a list of the 2020 free agents - https://www.espn.com.au/nba/story/_/id/20229609/nba-free-agents-team-team-lists-2020-2021

My current ideal - Additions of Wiseman, Dragic, Crowder, GRIII and Gasol. Somehow, lol.

PG - Curry / Dragic / Bowman
SG - Klay / Lee / Poole
SF - Wiggins / Crowder / GRIII
PF - Green / Paschall / Chriss
C - Gasol / Wiseman / Looney

A flyer as a free agent is Davis Bertans. That guy can seriousl shoot and would fit well as a forward with us, but I think he'll get paid more than what we would be prepared to pay.

PG: Steph / Poole / Bowman
SG: Klay / Kennard / Poole
SF: Wiggins / Robinson / Okoro
PF: Dray / Paschall / Chriss
C: Gasol / Looney / Chriss

I'm convinced we need to give Poole more of a run as a PG, he has good vision and looked better as a facilitator. Also, I think Wiseman is a little overhyped, given that we didn't see him during college, so I think we can try to trade down w/ Detroit and try to get a good player in Kennard.

I think we need to heavily focus on wing defense and rim protection this offseason.

Defense will bring us far

So the two most intriguing draft prospects in the top 3 would be Edwards/Wiseman.

Possible Free-agent acquisitions: Reggie Jackson, GR3, Andre Roberson
(Not sure if Jackson is affordable but would be an excellent defensive PG behind Steph)

TPE on Thaddeus Young + Chandler Hutchinson (All those 2nd RD picks could come in handy here)

2021 GSW FRP + Jordan Poole for Luke Kennard

PG: Stephen Curry / Reggie Jackson / Ky Bowman
SG: Klay Thompson / Luke Kennard / Andre Roberson
SF: Andrew Wiggins / GR3 / Chandler Hutchinson
PF: Draymond Green / Thaddeus Young / Eric Paschall
C: James Wiseman / Kevon Looney / Marquese Chriss

Outside of drafting Wiseman essentially none of these guys are possible. GS will only have the 'no hard cap' MLE to work with, and can't use the TPE to add a S&T player. Bertrans will absolutely make more then that. Crowder, Dragic and Gasol each probably make more then that, or at best the team might be able to sign one of them.

Curry/Bowman or Poole
Thompson/Edwards
Wiggins/GRIII
Green/Paschall
Looney/Chriss

No idea who the targets could be for the TPE but a solid PG or another big would be ideal.

My scenario:

Draft lotto puts us at #4

We take Jaden McDaniels with the #4, second round pick I’m not sure. Mocks have a lot of SG around there.

Curry/____/Bowman
Klay/Lee/Poole/2nd rounder
Wiggins/McDaniels/____
Green/Paschall/____
Looney/____/Smiley

TPE, 2 2nds for Thad Young

Try to sign Aaron Baynes, DJ Augustin

Curry/Augustin/Bowman
Klay/Lee/Poole/2nd rounder
Wiggins/McDaniels
Green/Young/Paschall
Looney/Baynes/Smiley

Back up wing spot is concerning because McDaniels is raw. Maybe ship Poole, 2nd rounder out for a future 2nd in the draft. Make space for some vet wings like Thabo, RHJ, Ennis, Chandler, etc.

I love the idea of a trade down to snag Kennard and Okoro.

Not giving up Wiseman if we have the opportunity to take him. Exactly what this team needs going forward.

I ain't betting on a rookie big man. It is extremely, extremely unlikely he's worth anything in year 1 on the court, and this isn't an AD/Zion level prospect

Take Edwards and don't over think it. Wings > bigs

Flip the MIN pick for Myles Turner. You can do it by using the TPE on James Johnson ($14M expiring) in one trade, then flipping him separately to MIN with the pick attached to IND.

TPMLE for GRob.

We probably want a veteran guard with a minimum

Leaving:

Ballhandler - Curry, Bowman, veteran FA
Wings - Klay, Wiggins, G-Rob, Lee, Edwards, veteran FA
Bigs - Dray, Turner, Chriss, Looney, Paschall, Smailagic

Thats probably our best possible outcome

They have Sabonis and Goga (their first round pick last year)

The reduced tax line might actually affect them

trade Paschall for Bol, trade down in draft and grab one or two of Lewis, Okoro, Green, Hampton or Haliburton.

This is assuming Bowman, Chriss and Lee are locks on the roster with their new contracts. I'm almost certain Smailagic is a lock on the roster too since he's being groomed to be a potential starter or at least valuable rotational player during the Splash Bros window.

PG - Curry / Poole / Bowman
SG - Klay / Lee
SF - Wiggins / Paschall / Michael Kidd-Gilchrist / Andre Roberson (or Bazemore)
PF - Green / Chriss / Smailagic
C - Looney / Noel / Cousins

I would like something like this. Wing defense added in MKG and Roberson or Bazemore. Rim protection added in Noel. Cousins added for interior scoring (if he's healthy). If not, just add another rim protector.

Didn't include our 2020 draft pick, because not sure who we will get.

From what I have seen from Wasserman, The Stepien, etc, it seems like Okoro is rising in projections. I don't think you can trade down much if you want to pick him, he may end up going 4-7 or so.

Trade GS #1 to Boston for Smart, Memphis #1, Mil #1
Trade Memphis #1 to Dallas for DFS + GS #2
Take both players back with TPE

Curry/Thompson/Green can't wait the couple of years for a young player to become useful and the team still has many holes. Need to use the 2020 1st for win-now value to compete. Can use the 2021 Minny 1st for future team building.

Sign FA center with 'no hard cap' MLE. Gasol best hope. Baynes, Ibaka and others also options. Center market soft enough should get someone pretty good.

Curry/Smart/Bowman
Klay/Poole/Lee
DFS/Wiggins
Green/Paschall
Gasol/Looney/Smailagic

Two extra roster spots go to either rookie (have late 1st and early 2nd to work with) or min salary vet.

Yes, I'd bring Wiggins off the bench. He's never shown competence to play off the ball well and he certainly shouldn't be dominating the ball with the starters. He can come in when either Curry or Thompson sit to provide a 2nd option.

Smart provides an Iggy-like high-impact bench option. Probably finish games with Smart at SF (he's a better defensive option there then Wiggins). Boston probably only deals him if Wiseman is an option.

It may seem like I overpaid for DFS but the team needs a good defensive SF, ideally with the size to play PF minutes as well. Finding a guy like that who's under contract for next season (since using the MLE on a C) on a cheap enough contract to fit in the TPE along with Smart is tough.

I got this.

Draft Haliburton with the 5th pick

Trade Wiggins + Poole to Sacramento for Barnes + Richaun Holmes

Trade 2nds and our trade exemption to Miami for Iggy

Sign Bazemore to a min. Convince Livingston to come out of retirement.

Convince Bogut to come back one last time.

Use Midlevel on Glenn Rob III

Curry-Haliburton-Bowman

Klay- Baze- Livingston

Barnes- Iggy- Glenn

Draymond- Paschall- Chriss

Homes- Looney- Bogut

Smailagic-2way

Toscano Anderson- 2way

THE BAND IS BACK TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Myers would never do this because to him Wiggins is the defensive SF and an off ball scorer which fits in the starting lineup 8-)

Draft wings, pursue non-wings in free agency.
