Will the Warriors trade down in the 2020 draft?

Post#1 » by Coxy » Wed May 6, 2020 6:34 am

Here's the premise.

The Warriors get a top 2 selection, giving them the shot at either James Wiseman or Anthony Edwards, who seem to be the only 2 worth looking at in the 2020 NBA draft (apparently). I want everyone to get on record round these parts, to see who actually thinks the Warriors would trade down to select a player that they see can potentially contribute now rather than later (Toppin type), as opposed to selecting 1 of these guys for the future.

You're on the clock people, record your take now to look back on at the 2020 draft. Crow will be served as the main course.

For the record, I say a resounding no. We keep either of the 2 guys I have mentoned at either 1 or 2.

Depends on the trade. Buy hypothetically, i'd take:

Okongwu and a solid rotation player over Wiseman
Okoro and a solid rotation player over Edwards

I don't think Wiseman/Edwards are much more of a "future" type pick than most in the lotto (outside of Toppin who you mentioned, who is much older so seemingly may contribute on offense a bit sooner). But, a trade down likely gets you a vet player that can help now.

BTW i voted NO just because I don't think they will be able to trade down, not that they wouldn't want to.

For the record, I think no matter where we fall in the draft we'll be trading down, my guess is with Charlotte who will be picking at 8 or 9. If we move down from 5(48% chance)Charlotte will compensate us with pick 32. If we move down from 1 or 2 I imagine we'll be asking for a future 1st with protections.

With that pick we'll select Patrick Williams F Florida State.

If we end up with pick 32 we'll use it on a long forward that could fill out into a mobile center for our system. Paul Reed anyone?

With one of 51/52 we'll pick Naji Marshall G/F Xavier and the other one we'll sell.

The danger is San Antonio at 11. I think they'll covet Patrick Williams and so we'll have to be careful not to drop behind them and hope they don't try to trade up with Chicago or something although that's not really their MO.

They should trade down regardless but it’s unlikely to happen as no one is worth trading up for
