TPE/MLE/Draft

Post#1 » by thinkingwarriors » Sat Jul 18, 2020 3:06 am

1. Your TPE choice and what you think needs to be offered to get it done.

2. Your MLE hope and why you think he'll sign.

3. Your draft pick(or picks), why and the role he'll play his rookie year.

4. Your roster.

My choices are:
TPE - Dante Exum, PG Cle
I don't think the Cavs have any interest in playing Dante Exum or paying him nearly $10mil next season since they've drafted PGs two years in a row. Incredibly fast and a tall and long perimeter defender who could play alongside either Steph or Klay. Still only 25, he could be exactly the sort of reclamation project that could pay big dividends as a longtime backup for us a la Livingston.

Edit: Forgot to add, I think Cleveland would take one of our late 2nds this year in return. They don't currently have a 2nd rounder in this draft.

MLE - Bismack Biyombo, C FA
He's not my first choice. I would love to sign passing bigs like Gasol or Plumlee for the MLE but I think both are viewed as key pieces for Toronto and Denver respectively and will be re-signed for way more than the MLE. The other name I considered was Tristan Thompson who is one of the better rebounders available but he doesn't do much else. If Myers signed TT for the MLE, I wouldn't be upset. I like Biyombo because he's an excellent shot blocker who works hard on the perimeter in the P&R.

Draft - Patrick Williams, F FlaSt
I could see the Warriors taking him at #5 if that's where we pick. He'll come in and be Wiggins backup at SF while also being able to play PF in small lineups. Long athletic forwards with perimeter skills are definitely the most sough after players, having 2-3 of them seems like a prerequisite to doing damage in the playoffs these days. Which is why you typically have to draft them. If you trade for them you have to pay a premium and if you sign them in FA you have to pay a bundle if they're even decent.

Curry/Exum/Bowman
Klay/Poole/Mulder
Wiggins/Williams/GR3
Draymond/Paschall/Smailagic
Chriss/Looney/Biyombo

Option A (1st Choice):

TPE: Use the TPE and send OKC our 2021 1st round pick (not Minny's). Schroeder has that jitter bug quickness and ball handling that makes him perhaps the best 6th man in the NBA. Arguably Schroeder is the top player you can acquire with the TPE. I am confident that even in games where we get a slow start that Schroeder can get us back in it.

MLE: Jae Crowder, best wing defender available with the MLE. He can hit 3's, understands how to play in a system and doesn't back down. Would bring some extra toughness.

Draft Pick: Get the top pick and take Wiseman a mobile 7-1 center with a 7-6 wingspan able to block shots and jam down dunks. In our situation hopefully he can blossom gradually into an all-star talent.

C Wiseman, Looney, Chriss
PF Green, Paschall, Smiley
SF Wiggins, Crowder, Poole
SG Thompson, Lee, Mulder
PG Curry, Schroeder, Bowman

Option B (2nd Choice):

TPE: In the circumstance we fall in the draft and cannot take Wiseman I elect to trade down in a pick swap scenario with the Suns to get Oubre. Oubre is probably the best wing you can acquire with the TPE, he might be better than Wiggins. Oubre would make our wing rotation awesome.

MLE: Get Baynes with the MLE. A big rugged center that can pick, pop, and pass would do really well in our starting lineup. Baynes would fit like a glove with us and provide some interior muscle.

Draft Pick: In a trade down scenario with the Suns we take Halliburton. It's easy to see how Halliburton would be useful as a 6-6 point guard with a 7-0 wingspan and elite floor vision. Halliburton would be a great Livingston replacement.

C Baynes, Looney, Chriss
PF Green, Paschall, Smiley
SF Wiggins, Oubre, Poole
SG Thompson, Lee, Mulder
PG Curry, Halliburton, Bowman

I favor keeping our draft pick rather than using it as a sweetener for the TPE.
I want to compete for a championship but I don't want to rely on the high draft pick to be useful as a rookie.
Warriors shold draft the best guy regardless of position or readiness to play.

Whether we keep Wiggins or trade him we want him to get better so that even if we trade him we don't have to give up assets to unload his cotract. My preference is that Wiggins blossom now like Nash did late in his career and wins the MVP. I will enjoy the general board's tears if Wiggins becomes the MVP. Not fair the Warrior are cheating by being lucky.

I just learned oday that Lee had torn ACLs in both legs prior to joining the Warriors. Basically I am happy with Wiggins, Klay, Lee at the 3 and 2 but I would like some 6'7 defensive stud with good point guard quickness backing them up.

Curry is Curry. Bowman is a keeper unless you can get an upgrade. Bowman is a real point guard on offense and defsense. With Iguodala's ball handling gone a true back up point guard may be necessary at times. Still my theoretical 6'7" defensive stud might be able to take the back up point guard minutes if Wiggins can help Draymond with the ball handling.

At center we need a wide body to go along with Looney and Chriss. I figure use the MLE on a wide body center.

Package the TPE and the Warriors unprotected 2023 and 2025 draft picks for the best 6'7" fast athlete you can get. I have nobody in mind. Maybe Terrence Ross even though he is a scorer notba defensive stud.

Smiley is a potential stretch 5. He can go to Santa Cruz. Poole is a potential quality guard. He can go to Santa Cruz. Mulder is potentially a great shooter. He can go to Santa Cruz. Toscano can get a two way contract and be on the 17 man roster

1. Your TPE choice and what you think needs to be offered to get it done.
James Johnson - Tough, hard nosed combo SF/PF/C that would be an amazing addition to the team. He would be the perfect backup/combination guy for Draymond. Can do a bit of everything at a very high level, and would help bring Wiseman along as well. Love the toughness of Johnson, Green and my next muchacho with the MLE.

2. Your MLE hope and why you think he'll sign.
Jae Crowder - I've expressed my desire for Crowder for a while now. Fits for many reasons, and would be a great addition. He seems like a guy that would fit into the locker room, and would give it all for a shot at a title.

3. Your draft pick(or picks), why and the role he'll play his rookie year.
James Wiseman - Starter, and Draymond teaches him the ways of the force.

4. My Trade.
Looney/Paschall for D Rose
Move on from Looney as the depth we add in my ideas here negates his need. We lose Paschall who looked good, but we can cover his loss. Add the vital backup PG we need.

5. Your roster.
Steph / Rose
Klay / Poole / Mulder
Wiggins / Crowder / Lee
Green / Johnson / Smailagic
Wiseman / Chriss

Extras - Bowman, Toscano-Anderson, Vet min big.

Closing death lineup
PG - Rose
SG - Curry
F - Klay
F - Crowder
C - Green

Profit.

Dreamy impossible dream world scenario:

TPE: Robert Covington. Fertitta is in financial trouble, orders Moray to cut payroll, GS swoops in and grabs Cov for our 2021 1st (protected) and the Minnesota 2021 2nd

MLE: Marc Gasol. Toronto flames out of the bubble early and Marc takes a 1-2 year deal with us to finish his career with some more rings

Trade: Wiggins and our pick to Detroit for Snell, Rose, and Kennard.

Gasol/Looney/Chriss
Green/Paschall
Covington/Snell/Lee
Klay/Kennard/Poole
Curry/Rose

Semi-realistic world:

TPE: Tomas Satoransky

MLE: Nerlens Noel

Draft: Deni Avdija

Try and bring back GR3 on a vet min deal

Noel/Looney/Chriss
Green/Paschall
Wiggins/Avdija/Lee
Klay/GR3/Poole
Curry/Sato

Both choices sort of require us getting a 2nd FRP in some way.
Option A (Somewhat realistic):

TPE: Use the TPE and send like 3 2nds we acquired this year to Detroit (they have no 2nd round picks) and they give us Tony Snell. At 6'6 (6'11 wingspan), He would be a nice 3 n D wing on the bench for us (he can really shoot) He has nice size, hardly misses free throws, doesn't ask for the ball/doesn't require much of it. Just a good role player

MLE: Goran Dragić, Good Vet Back up PG, I still think he has something left in him (he's 34), can shoot and facilitate. I think we give him 2 years maybe he accepts and comes to live in SF away from Florida. Averaged 16 ppg/5 assists of the bench for Miami

Draft Pick: Get the top pick and take James Wiseman a mobile 7-1 center with a 7-6 wingspan able to block shots and jam down dunks. In our situation hopefully he can blossom gradually into an all-star talent. 2nd pick around mid-late first round get Desmond Bane. Would be a good backup SG that I would honestly prefer than half of our current roster, He's around 6'5, can pass, Defend, shoot lights out, switch a bit but limited, high IQ.

Min contract: Can bring GR3 back if he is willing

2-way: JTA and Bowman

C Wiseman, Looney, Chriss
PF Green, Paschall, Smiley
SF Wiggins, Snell, GR3
SG Thompson, Bane, Lee
PG Curry, Dragic, Poole

Option B (Less chance of happening):

Brooklyn somehow misses the playoffs and they are anywhere between 10-14. Which means they will have 2 FRPs this draft. We get the 5th pick, and Wiseman and Edwards are off the board. Even if they are on the board I might still do the deal. We trade down and get their 2 1sts along with Dinwiddie

TPE: Spencer Dinwiddie.

MLE: Get Aron Baynes/Marc Gasol with the MLE. A big rugged center that can pick, pop, and pass would do really well in our starting lineup. Baynes/Gasol would fit like a glove with us and provide some interior muscle.

Draft Pick: In a trade down scenario with the Nets we take Saddiq Bey with the lottery pick and Bane with the pick in 20s

C Baynes, Looney, Chriss
PF Green, Paschall, Smiley
SF Wiggins, Bey, GR3
SG Thompson, Bane, Lee
PG Curry, Dinwiddie, Poole

If we need to cut someone for roster spot it will be Lee or we would send some 2nd round picks to dump Looney/Smailagic

That looks good but can’t get Smart without giving up the pick

Absolutely right on your part. We could dangle the Minny pick for next year, but I agree there probably isn’t a deal there. Same for getting Ibaka or someone like Gasol for the MLE. But those are my targets.

Ill go in order that they happen:

Draft:
Assuming we get pick 4/5 and dont make a trade... At this moment I’d go with Deni Advija (tho this has changed a number of times)

TPE:
Shroeder (prime target)
Satoransky (secondary)

MLE: Gasol (prime target)
Baynes (secondary)
Crowder (tertiary)

Vet minimum targets:
Justin Holiday
Kent Bazemore (if no crowder or Holiday)
GR3
DJ Augustine (if no PG elsewhere)

Most ideal scenario picking 4/5.

Curry / Shroeder / Poole
Klay / Holiday / Lee
Wiggins / Advija / GR3
Green / Paschall / Smiley
Gasol / Chriss / Looney

If we pick higher...
I take Wiseman and it changes the priority a bit, as Crowder moves up in priority on MLE targets.

Curry / Shroeder / Poole
Klay / Holiday / Lee
Wiggins / Crowder/ GR3
Green / Paschall / Smiley
Wiseman / Chriss / Looney

Also okay with Okongwu, but back to leaning Wiseman at this point. Stay tuned cause it changes daily.

Draft - Wiseman
2r - Markus Howard or Jared butler, and Corey kispert
Tpe - Oubre or James Johnson not sure how this would work but probably send out our 21 pick?
Mle - Jae crowder or Andre Roberson Depending on who we get for the tpe

Curry / Howard or butler / Poole
Klay / Mulder
Wiggins / Crowder or Roberson / kispert
Green / Oubre or JJ / Paschall
Wiseman / Chriss / looney /smiley

Draft/TPE: the Warriors trade their pick to Boston for Marcus Smart (using the TPE) and one of Boston’s picks (they have the rights to Memphis’ pick and Milwaukee’s, in addition to their own). If the Warriors get the #1 or #2 pick, they insist on the Memphis pick coming back (currently projected at #17) and take Aleksej Pokusevski.

MLE: Marc Gasol

Vet Min: GR3

Roster:
Curry/Smart/Poole
Klay/Lee
Wiggins/GR3
Draymond/Paschall/Pokusevski
Gasol/Chriss/Looney/Smailagic
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

Draft: the Wiseman (1st round); Desmond Bane (2nd round, if she slips) & draft and stash
TPE: James Johnson
MLE: Reggie Jackson (Unrestricted FA)

Curry/Jackson/Poole
Thompson/Lee/Bane
Wiggins/Tuscano
Green/Johnson/Paschall
Wiseman/Looney/Chriss/Smiley

1) We get a legit 7 footer in Wiseman with immense upside (Still a lot to prove though, but I’ll take him if the opportunity presents itself).
2) James Johnson’s ruggedness will be needed. Another point forward.
3) Reggie Jackson will do well as backup. And will see plenty of minutes to give Curry some rest.
4) Desmond Bane (Senior from TCU) is a finished product. Can contribute now. Does everything well. Shot over 40% from 3.
5) Worries: Paschall, Poole, and Chriss’s PT? They’ll get spot minutes based on matchups, injuries, rest, etc.

A lot of people pencil in Poole as a point guard. I don't think Poole is a point guard. klay defended point guards but he isn't a point guard. Klay had his length. Poole is big for a point guard and is quicker than Klay. Neither one of them did anything on offense to make me think point guard.

I have a hunch that despite Poole's horrible rookie season shooting that Poole will make it in the NBA as a scorer but probably not good enough next year to be a rotation player.

I think Bowman is a legit NBA player; a 10th man but still an NBA player. Bowman's quickness is not special but is better than NBA avage Steph has a problem staying in front of quick point guards 1 on 1. Steph isn't big but he is not really small as a point guard.

I don't really want a back up point guards slower than Steph even if he has good offensive skills. If the back up point guard is going to be slower than Steph he better have livingston length and know how to use the length defensively. Otherwise just stick with Bowman.

Smart would be nice but I don't believe the Celtics are going to get rid of Smart.
