Re: NBA 2020 Draft Results - #2 Overall
LaMelo is a better defensive player than Edwards, you don't think about Russell when you draft, you only think about Towns
and Russell can shoot it, and he is going to need another partner creating offense on the perimeter if you think you are going anywhere (no chance you can compete with him as your alpha), also Ball will shoot it just fine soon enough
They need a real guy with upside, Edwards isn't that, he doesn't have that type of IQ, understanding, talent

I would trade down if there’s good value. If no trade, then LaMelo or Ant, whichever is there.
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.

That's what I proposed earlier, our #2 and maybe a future 2nd for their #8 and their first next year. No idea what they want (Ball?) or how desperate they are to move up though. But it's the Knicks so they may do something stupid. With #8 we have a good chance of getting one of Okoro, Okongwu, Toppin, or Vassel (among others). Knicks 2021 FRP would be an amazing asset to have if they're looking to trade.

But that’s not what Woj said. He said we actively canvas the league making trade calls. Doesn’t mean they’re actively trading it.
It’s called due diligence.
Exactly, that tweet is not accurate.

Went to a couple of wolves boards and they’re all hoping to trade the pick. Go to our boards and everyone wants to trade the pick. These picks are worthless literally everyone wants to get rid of them.

I'm thinking they take Ball. Has some size and ball distribution that fits well with Russell.
They both need the ball in their hands. Neither plays defense. I don’t see the fit at all.
I see a great fit with those 2, all the way to us getting the number #1 overall pick in 2022.
Wouldn’t Edwards pose the same issues but 2 inches shorter?

Yeah probably, so as long as they pass on JW and we get JW, it's all gravy.

Is there really anyone you want from the Knicks? Would they be dumb enough to trade future years pick...

I want more than that... but maybe Im just being too greedy.
I would think a trade of:
#8 + Better of NYK/DAL 1st + ‘23 DAL 1st (protected top 10) would be enough for that much of a drop.
We can use the DAL ‘23 1st with our TPE to get a legit playoff rotation player from a team looking to save money (Josh Richardson).
Edit: At 8 theres a number of players I’m okay with taking a flier on - we’ve already gotten the value we really needed from the pick (‘21 1st + JoRich)

Throw in the right to exchange the 2021 Twolves pick for the unprotected 2021 Knicks pick and I will join you in the 2nd pick for the 8th pick plus Robinson.

Jay 20 wrote:I need to watch more highlights of Wiseman, but my concern is that he played 3 college games. Two of those games were against South Carolina State and UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago).
Game experience is huge for young players. He doesn't have much. So best case scenario it takes him what? 3 or 4 years to develop? Does anyone really expect him to be a starting center for a championship caliber team next season? I'm genuinely asking. I'll admit I have to see more film on him, but on the surface I have some concerns.
It's right to be concerned, but I have some concerns with everyone in the draft. Even though I think Wiseman would be a great pick, I would be OK with them picking Okongwu, a guy who gives you a lot of what Wiseman does (athleticism, defense, rebounding), but in a slightly more compact but more mobile package. He may have a shorter development timeline. He'd make a formidable defensive tandem with Draymond and I could see both of them switching off between PF and C depending on matchups (along with Chriss in the mix). He's smaller than Wiseman but he's strong enough to hold position and is an explosive scorer. I think his footwork and BBIQ are more advanced than Wiseman and he should be a better perimeter defender as well thanks to excellent lateral quickness.
In short he won't give you the absolute size that Wiseman will and may struggle against the KATs of the league. But he's probably the more versatile player and the Warriors like versatility.

Edwards is like 220 pounds and an amazing athlete. Ball is like 12 pounds and afraid of his shadow on defense.

Yeah, the Wolves will just give their "worthless" pick to the Warriors because they are so sure it has no value.

Just noticed..thanks for the reference
And yep...thinking of how to snag the NY unprotected is a very good thought. Maybe we work them in a three way deal somehow to get a vet stud and their pick. Especially if we aren't excited about a pick at the top..

Edwards athleticism gives him a better foundation to be a better defender potentially.
Neither Edwards or Ball excite me, but Edwards' talents align better with the Warriors than LaMelo's do.

Bob didn’t say that. Calling teams and talking trade doesn’t mean they want to trade the pick.
They 1000% want to trade the pick.

The difference is that players want to be here. The Wolves already have the only 2 guys in the entire league that want to be in Minnesota. Any star is vetoing a trade to Minny in a second but they will absolutely come here.
Bob was on the phone within seconds of knowing where the pick came in.
