Updated through Feb. 3.

LaMelo is impressing, but Haliburton is right there and doing it on way lower usage, much better efficiency. Wiseman is about where I expected him to be: close to the top in scoring, leading in rebounds and blocks, but too many personal fouls and not many assists.

Ball and Haliburton running away with it (although a lot of lower picks doing very well). Ball more dynamic and erratic, Haliburton steadier and more efficient.

I was telling a friend that tho we could have had Lamelo that Wiseman was the better fit, even when Klay got hurt the day before the draft. With the splash brothers as hall of famers and the development of Wiggins, Lamelo minutes would have been minimized and the ball not as much in his hands as in Charlotte.
Thoughts?

Hindsight is 2020 but I would have still preferred Melo because of his passing. I really feel that in 10 years we will look back on this team and say “Did we really have the BEST 2 shooters who ever lived on the same team together for 12 straight seasons”. Adding a second great passer to mix would have been a thing of beauty. I have more confidence in Ball being the next J Kidd ( better O lesser D of course) than Wiseman being the next Embiid or Bosh.

They both fit on the Warriors.

A big Lamelo misconception is that he is ball dominant. He can move without the ball and doesn't over dribble. The ball doesn't stick in his hands.

Big men take a few years to develop so if Wiseman can mirror his game similar to Chris Bosh and be effective in that 16-19ppg and 10rpb 1 not statlinr than he will be very worth it as future building block. I feel anything less is replaceable

I was thinking along those lines with any guard (LaMelo, Haliburton, Edwards, etc.), that their minutes would be limited. Just seemed like Wiseman would get all the minutes he could eat. I hate to see a top draft pick buried behind other players, I want them to play and play a lot, even if it's ugly for a while.

Saddiq Bey with 30 pts, 12 reb, 0 to on 10-12 shooting (7-7 from 3), wow.

Saddiq is just a 3 point shooter at this point... if his 3 is not dropping he's not doing much, but he's a 6-8 3point shooter and that will always be useful in today's NBA

I wanted a big guard...Warriors would be a better team THIS year had they drafted Lamelo, Saddiq...

BUT...I still think Wiseman is the more valuable longer term. Rarer gem. We'll see.

Surprise, surprise: undrafted Jae'Sean Tate jumps to the top in Win Shares, on very low usage.

This is depressing. The only ROY votes Wiseman gets will be pity votes.

Isaiah Stewart and Jae'Sean Tate are your big winners in terms of win shares. Okongwu came on strong at the end, didn't play a lot of minutes but had the best efficiency of all rookies. Bane delivered on his promise as a 3 point bomber. And I gave Lamelo Ball some grief before the draft but I have to admit I was wrong about him, he's the real deal and probably had the most impressive year overall. Ant Man was also impressive, his efficiency leaves a lot to be desired, but the dude can score in the NBA. Haliburton (my second choice in the draft) will be overlooked because of the late-season injury, but he had an excellent year.

Wiseman...well, I still give him an "incomplete" grade. He had some struggles but also showed off some real potential at times. Just too many things went wrong between a truncated college career, missing training camp, Covid, foul trouble, and in-season injuries.

I was very wrong about Haliburton. I would have loved him on this roster. But at the time I stand by not believing his jumper would translate and his overall speed. Thought he would be too slow and weak to compete at NBA level.
