LOL...I actually like Starks...but to like him means we were bereft of talent. Glad he went on to NYK where they got to enjoy his lack of talent. Few guys get as many minutes Starks got while being a poor shooter.FNQ wrote:a8bil wrote:For you old timers...does Poole remind anyone else of John Starks?

How soon?!
As soon as Poole's career is over. Maybe a few days before.
Hopefully that wont be that soon then.

Bob Sura is potentially my least favorite warrior of all time. And I've watched for 20+ years at this point.

Least favorite warrior has my head spinning. My list would consist of players that represented what we could of had or traded in return. Alton Lister and Bimbo Coles come to mind.

Bimbo...UGH.
If we're using your scenario it might be Mookie for me. We sucked at the time so we traded for a guy that barely made the AS team? How was that putting us over the top? I believe that pick turned into Jason Terry while Mookie turned into a pile of wet newspapers.

Poole is not a good shooter...sorry.
A good shooter doesn't hit back right side of the rim....When he misses he misses big...
I'm not asking him to be Steph...but let's not fool ourselves. The guy hits a few 3's in a game and we get excited?
Nah....still don't see it.
Edit: 4-6 tonight against Houston from 3.... Hope I'm way wrong.

You are way wrong and have been way off the rails for about a week now
The guy has a snap release and the only time he's 'way off' is when he's forcing shots out of rhythm. Like a rookie would. Like a player who hasnt played in a good system before would.

Re: I told you guys that Jordan Poole was going to impress.
Some stats I posted and will fall on deaf ears on the GB:
In a small sample size, Poole is 20-24 (83%) on shots from less than 5 feet this year, 55.6% from 5-9 feet on 9 attempts, and 3-5 from 30-34 feet. He's 82% in the restricted area right now, 56% in the non-paint restricted area, and 76% on layups.
Last year, he was 46% from less than 5 feet, but he was 55% in the 5-9 range on 20 attempts, shot 69% on bank shots on 13 attempts, and 66% on fadeaways in 9 attempts.
He's improved a lot at the rim. It's not reasonable to think he'll keep finishing like Giannis at the rim, but he looks stronger and more explosive getting to the hoop, so I do think he's going to be a good finisher from here on out. But what's particularly encouraging is seeing that Poole's numbers in that 5-9 feet range are pretty stable compared to last year. Add him shooting >50% on floaters last year, and we're starting to see a meaningful sample size showing that Poole has legitimate touch in the mid range. Factor that in with his FT% and his increased 3P% and we might have ourselves a legitimate 37-38% high volume and high variance chucker and I couldn't be more thrilled.

Good Happy to be way off
To have a player rise up and become a legit shooter in the NBA would really help this team.

Re: I told you guys that Jordan Poole was going to impress.
Poole is a very instructive example. At the moment, he's playing well, and most of all he's suggested that he's learning, getting better, and improving from a disappointment (first half of last year) to a definite plus.
Because not every player comes to the league at their performance peak. But people on this board and elsewhere immediately suggest that what they see is all that player will ever be. Which is completely ignorant of professional sports and high level competition.
Poole hasn't proved anything yet, really, but he's showing definite promise. Draft picks are not free agents or trade subjects. You can't expect them to show up and be finished, especially in the one-and-done era. Some players -- hint, hint -- don't even play much between high school and the NBA. Of course they're raw.
The present season is NEVER the only season that matters, but it's especially true right now for the Warriors. So we might all calm down and see what happens with the players we've got. Wouldn't hurt.
