I still think that if Meyers can hardball him into a "bet on yourself deal" he could either be forced into a role that helps the team (matchup driven off the bench) and with maximized positive minutes while Klay plays into shape. If a few things break right, he could be very tradeable at the next deadline.

I thin this is the best case scenario. An Oubre sized TPE in a sign and trade probably nets us... another Kelly Oubre level player down the line that we'd need to give up more picks for and we'd likely have to burn some picks to even convince a team to do a sign and trade with us to et us the Oubre TPE. Oubre back on a 1+1 deal is easier to salary match when you're big fish hunting.

And I will add that despite being well attuned to Oubre's flaws and limitations. I do think he can raise his value here next year. With a real training camp and another year of experience I think some of the bumps this year could be smoothed out and we could at least marginally improve on his reputation as a low IQ player.

I think the baseline cutting would look even better with real spacing. I also think his straight line forrays to the hoops where is incapable of forcing his defender to move side-to-side are probably less of a disaster too if the paint is less clogged. There's a path to him being tolerable next year, I definitely agree.

It all depends on how other teams see him, which may be very different than how he looks to us. After all, just last year he was regarded as a valuable player on Phoenix. If he gets a decent 3 yr offer somewhere, he'll have to jump at it, but if not...sure, he might come back on a short, cheaper contract hoping for better things after the next year or two.

Haven't thought it all out but it must remembered there is an opportunity cost here. That time could be spent evaluating another player. Time is in short supply. Raising his value must be worth it or else it is better to simply let him go. I don't like how the team seems to be reluctant to cut sunk costs this year while it was more than willing to previously.

Yeah, YOLO'ing the season on Kelly Oubre was a pretty bad idea. I would have just cut his ass at the trade deadline and taken a chance on a wing/big that could rebound and run the floor like Alize Johnson. He was killing it in the d league.

I'd much rather have athletic guys that will hunt down the ball and take high percentage shots than some superstar-wannabe.

I think Oubre's probably one of the worst fits possible for the team but cutting him was never an option. Optics on that for free agents is pretty bad.. keep in mind that in order for us to win, we need to bring in ring chasers/prove-it players, and if we do something like that, it'll make players think twice about signing here.. because we'd do something that really hurts their value. As is, we can always sell Oubre as a bad fit in a motion-heavy offense, which I think is pretty much the truth. Cutting him would likely indicate something under the surface and hurt his FA value

Maybe something to keep in mind but this should not be used as an excuse to keep him. I am growing concerned about this automatic reflex to keep Oubre. Has all the hallmarks of a case of sunk cost syndrome. Even worse if it is influencing other decisions.

Teams cut players all the time. Are they considering the free agency value of those cut players? It should be clear to everyone that Oubre for whatever reason isn't working as much as hoped for the Dubs. This isn't a case like Isaiah Thomas's where he put in an MVP caliber performance and injured himself possibly unnecessarily to improve the team's winning chances and did not get paid. If the team is concerned about these kind of optics I think the cases of KD and Cousins and even Iguodala and McGee would be more concerning.

What kind of players are the Warriors targeting anyway? If they are older veterans like Gasol or even Ibaka, they've probably already made their money and aren't prioritizing a big payday.

The only thing even remotely positive about keeping him is the salary slot. But dang, I dont even want him around for that.

Hes a me first guy and always has been. He is a guy who has talent, but just isn't of the mindset to be a team guy.

Honestly I'd rather have Juan because hes super cheap and is a total team guy.

Torn wrist ligament and fractured palm, not officially done for season but seems likely he's played his last game in a Dubs uni.

Well...he's out. Probably the last we'll see of him on the Warriors. Unfortunately he didn't work out.
Looking forward to 2073....bye bye pouting moody Durant...hello again the 73 win style of hoops!

I don't know, his chance at a big payday just took a major hit. If he likes this org, no better place to sign that make good contract than here.

This injury might have given us our best chance to retain him. Rejoice!

If his wrist was aggravated early in the last game he played and that's what led to the horrid performance then maybe my assessment of him isn't closed. Doesn't look like there will be opportunities to evaluate him with the team this year though so it may be a moot point.

It's well known that I don't agree with that assessment. My only complaint with him is how he's being used. To my mind he's a SF/PF and should only rarely be matched up on guards.

He's not a very instinctive player and defending quicker guards requires him to anticipate their moves. As it is he must rely on his length and quickness to recover rather than being able to anticipate and it's not good enough. It contorts our defense.

If he was matched on forwards, even bigger forwards, his relative quickness would be an advantage. He's also not afraid of contact and physicality which isn't so useful against guards.

If he was matched on bigger players he would also generally be closer to the bucket allowing him to grab more boards which is probably his most important contribution alongside finishing.

i mean you are disagreeing with facts, but ok. it's pretty obvious Kelly's a trash fit with this personnel and team, not just by eye test but every metric says so as well.

A thing is never a thing. All things are in the process of becoming something else.

Oubre was in the process of becoming a good fit for this personnel and team. And next season, pending agreement between Oubre and the team, we will see that process to completion.

And why did you omit my reasoning? It's dishonest.

That's the fun part of disagreeing with that character. I agree about Oubre. Once Klay is back in form, I think he could be a valuable piece coming off the bench next season.
