Mentioned it in the other thread, but I think its a really good move for him and the Warriors. He's playing next to one of the best playmakers in all of Europe, has 2 former Warriors on the team, 1 teammate related to our SC Warriors coach, so he's definitely still in the Warriors pipeline as a RFA. He can continue to develop his efficiency while getting more valuable minutes compared to being in Santa Cruz.

Also, we replaced his spot with a more NBA ready PG for any roster scenarios where we need a floor general to just kill some minutes in garbage time or if we have a game with extreme availability issues. Chiozza will be a nice emergency 3rd PG.

How much will his contract be? His QO is nearly $2M. That team is probably paying more than the QO.

Smart move by Nico. He wasn't going to play much other than in the G-league. He should now play 20 to 25 minutes a game and hopefully improve. He looked good at times during the Olympics but still needs a bit more seasoning.

I suspect this may be more a 'see ya later' rather than a good-bye. I am optimistic that he will show improvement by next summer and make a good case for gaining a roster spot.

I hope so too. I really like Mannion as a backup guard in this league. He has shot creating ability as well as playmaking skills and not to mention a nice jumper. He just needs to get to speed with the pro game. Come back stronger Nico!

When he comes back he'd better bring back Mladen Sekularac goddamnit

EDIT: And Lior Eliyuahu (sp?)

No, his QO was a two-way salary, which is about $462,000 this year, with $50,000 guaranteed.

Yep. It’s basically a version of a delayed “draft and stash”….. he’ll get better in Italy, we keep his rights, and he can come back and help us. His roster spot (or in this case, 2-way spot) is available for somebody who can contribute more until he can. And we’re not on-the-hook for his salary while he gets better. Pretty ideal.

We traded for him a couple years ago, he may have been part of the Wiggins deal? I know we got him from MIN

How does it work with his rights?
I was convinced he would be gone for good, but I'm reading (here and elsewhere) he's still going to be a RFA for us... When can we exercise the rights?

Btw I'm a Fortitudo fan, the rival team of Virtus Bologna, so I'm pretty about this signing. Of all the teams in Italy and Europe... couldn't he go to another one?

I think it's just a matter of offering the QO every off-season, then he automatically gets restricted as a FA.

Damn heard he has a serious infection, lost 20 pounds. Theres a picture of him that makes him look like a 13 yr old ball boy. he will make a full recovery though.

Reports say he's already recovered most of the weight. It will take some time to be back to form and play though, so that's not a good thing for him.
I hope he can have a full recovery very soon and get back on the court.

He got an intestinal virus while in Tokyo for the Olympics.

I've seen a report on the internet that he has Crohn's disease (Larry Nance Jr has it too; apparently lost 20 pounds as well, back in March). I don't know if this is true, need a more reliable source.
