Training camp 2021

Post#1 » by Onus » Thu Sep 30, 2021 9:45 pm

We don’t really have a place to discuss what’s going on in training camp. So here’s a thread for it.

I’m really curious as to how the conversation went this year with regards to team building. Draymond in his interview today didn’t seem enthused at the thought of having such a young roster and said historically it’s never worked, but this is the situation that we’re in. I’m curious how big a role the young guys will have. Will kuminga be the backup 4 or does jta get that? Or does kuminga get the back up 5 or does beli get that?

Drays' interview for context. Pretty mature response imo.

It is. They all seemed like they signed off on it, which is why who ever had the conversation is really good.

We would be more screwed now if Beal were available, wanted to come, and we successfully got him for Wiggins + Kuminga + Moody + Wiseman.

I guess we dodged one there Dray.

Supposedly Wiseman added 'a lot' of muscle this off-season. Anybody seen photo evidence of this?

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

The muscles on his hands are what I hope he worked on. Having Adonal Foyle hands scares me.

Zach Lowe podcast with Nick Freidell and Anthony Slater.

They talk about the Wiggins vaccine situation but they also talk about the team's prospects.

One area of weakness is rebounding and Friedell said he doesn't have high expectations of Wiseman to help, because he doesn't know where to be, didn't get to work with the team because of his recovery, etc.

One of them noted Wiggins is noticeably larger.

They are also skeptical on Warriors chances, maybe 4-7 seed and either win one series or if things go really right, they reach the WCF.

They think Porter and Bjelica were basically players other teams didn't want. With Porter, it's like a lottery ticket and with Bjelica, he couldn't hack the fitness requirements the Heat had so he signed with Warriors who don't have as demanding fitness conditioning requirements.

Lowe thinks a trade for Simmons would help the team and solve the Wiggins problems at once and Simmons would be far more effective with Curry and Klay spacing the court. The other guys seem lukewarm to it and pointed out ownership doesn't want to give up the young players.

One thing I have noticed in the clips available is that Ron Adams & Milojevic & Mahlalela have been jointly working with Wiseman. Seems like the coaches are on the same page, and communicating with each other.

Right now looks like all low block basics. Both hands, both sides, direct moves, counters , up & unders.

Also, a few days ago there was a short clip of a drill that looked like it was making crisp passes from the low block to the corner.
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

Is the roster young? It doesn't seem like it to me. Curry, Klay, Draymond and Bjelica are in their 30s, Andre late 30s. Porter, Lee, JTA, and Payton are late 20s. The 2015 team was probably younger and less experienced.

Exactly, I don't consider it a "young roster". It's a vet roster with some promising youth. So I disagree with Draymond's analysis here. They've got the top-level vet stars and their bench (youth and all) should be improved from the last couple years. Still going to be an uphill climb to win a chip but I don't think it's quite so dire.

The Warriors on Saturday held their first full scrimmage at Chase Center, and they did it without starting small forward Andrew Wiggins.S

“Andrew was not here today,” coach Steve Kerr said. “He’s under the weather.”

Might as well get used to playing without him.

Wiggins must be "sick" of the media already.

Man up like 3.5 billion people in the world who have gotten the vaccine. It's not that hard.

He did. And while it will get discussed ad nauseum on this board, my guess is he won't want to discuss it at all.

My guess is that it will hardly get mentioned at all anymore, fans are just thankful it's over. Now all that will be discussed is his play, for better or worse.

He never did.. thing about leaks is you gotta know when its something that should not ever be said. Whoever leaked the Wiggins stuff to the media can sit & spin for making this such a debacle. The exact same thing would have happened if no one knew about it and like the countless other things that never made the media, nobody would have given a ****

Wiggin's got the shot....right on. Huge risk averted for the moment :)

Kerr tipped his hand today regarding Kuminga. Roughly quoted "As long as he shows defense, his offense, including ability to pass, has earned him minutes".

I think Kuminga is a key if it's JUST for being uber physical this year.

Curry, Klay, Wiggins, Kuminga, Green ....That's a very physically tough defensive squad. Love to see that.

Agreed

Wiggins has never come out and said he was antivax. This was the narrative put forth by the media and people just ate it up and went with it. Even on media day, he clearly said that whether he gets the vax OR not was a private decision. People saw him angry with his response. Then the reason he was upset (team leak) was attributed to him being antivax. The truth just got swiped under the rug.

He and the team wanted this quiet for a reason, but the media needed to drum up a story. Wiggs is an introvert that doesnt seem to share anything to anyone other than to the people around him. The team said he will play. Wiggs said he will get it if he has to. He waited until the last possible day to get the vax.

People need to move on. My guess is that the calendar deadline to play ball and his love for his team and organization played a bigger role than the money.
