Why do the Warriors lead the league in defensive rebounding percentage

Post#1 » by SinceGatlingWasARookie » Sat Nov 20, 2021 6:13 pm

Warriors are leading the league in defensive rebounding percentage.

Curry grabs a lot of rebounds. Curry isn't big. Curry isn't fast for a point guard but he is grabbing 6 rebounds per game. This is his career high in rebounds per game.

Draymond is getting 2 less rebounds per game than he did in 2016

Warriors don't have anybody in the top 30 in rebounds per game.
Draymond 39th, Looney 47th Curry 59th, Bjelica 101st
Per 36 minutes rebounds per game, Looney 13.5, Dowtin 12, Bjelica 10, Draymond 9.1, Porter 8.9, Payton 8.2, Kuminga 8, Curry 6.6

Maybe the Warriors just want the rebounds more. We don't have any guys that are, big, fast, have rippling muscles and play mean. No peak Dwight Howard types on our team. But the Warriors get the job done.

Andre, Otto, and Nemena are doing a really good job and boxing, tipping the balls to teammates and fighting hard inside. All 3 have been a massive, massive improvement. Also the amount of competition has sparked some fire for Looney as well. Overall team is working harder in every aspect (defense is the best in the league is another example, defende = effort).

They seem to be playing 110% all of the time. Hopefully they'll still have some left when playoff comes.

Gang rebound. If you actually watch the game, most of the time our bigs are boxing out so a teammate can get the rebound (Steph gets many of them). Our bigs are not focused on getting their rebound stats up.

This is a great strategy as our team is small. For every 1-2 offensive rebounder, we basically have 2-3 working together win the rebound, unselfishly, without worrying who actually gets the rebound stat.

partly good habits, partly we've played against some poor rebounding teams.

AND the defense is rarely set to rebound because they are chasing cutters all over the place. The offense spreads out the defense...doesn't that also mean it spreads out the rebounders from snatching the boards?

It's easier to rebound well when your team is making good rotations.

Good thing you left out the comma.

From what I see, it's a couple things Bogut was fantastic at: boxing out and tipping rebounds to teammates. It doesn't show up in individual stats, but it impacts winning way more than what David Lee and Danny Fortson used to do for us.

Don't jinx it though, we are only #23 in defensive rebound % in the last 10 games.

If they finish around 15th before Wiseman is back is amazing. Weren't the Warriors 29th last season? :nonono:

We were one of the top 1-3 def rebounding teams to start the season. If we finish at 15th before Wiseman returns, it means we have been 25-30th lately?

I don't mind being 15th as long as our def rating is at the top. Just saying what I see re: rebounding.

Basket Reference says the Warriors are still number 1 in Defensive rebounding percentage. Followed by the Blazers, Mavericks and Heat.

Last year the Warriors were 25th in defensive rebounding percentage.
I am finding the stat in "league stats" "advanced stats" , "Defensive 4 factors"
