I'm curious how many people would trade for Lauri at our current offer.

Definitely. Frees Moody from the clutches of Kerr stupidity and prevents us from trading Podz or Kumbuckets.

Mdj just needs to stay strong with this offer. If ainge doesn’t like it then he can keep Lauri and ruin his tank for coop and then his tank in 26 as well. Or someone else can come in and beat it. Doesn’t look like anyone will since our offer has been there for 2 weeks plus and no one has jumped in.

I think Ainge's plan is to hold out for an insane deal before Lauri's extension, but if it doesn't materialize, capitalize on a desperate team Feb 6th once he's in a long term contract. That maximizes the Lauri haul, and they still fully tank the 2nd half of the season. They also likely would gut a bunch of good players before Lauri can be traded to make sure the record is bad.

I voted yes. I think that Ainge has less of an upper hand than everyone is saying. They would be foolish not to go full tank this year, and I would certainly value our future firsts over Wemby and the Spurs.

The Spurs also don't seem to be in a rush to be awesome, they are doing the right thing by being patient. There is no bidding war, and with this upcoming draft it makes sense for the Jazz to bottom out in a conference that only has 1 other tank candidate.

August 6th will be a key date. If the Jazz don't extend Lauri on that day their choices are to extend him and make him ineligible for trades this season, or to go into the season with him on the final year of his contract. The longer they play this out his trade value diminishes.

If the Jazz extend him on August 7th or after, he can't be traded for 6 months. With the trade deadline being on 2/6, that means he cannot be traded this season if they extend him after that date.

Hence why his trade value diminishes if they go into the season without an extension.

Trading him at the deadline will most likely be too late. They’ve done that the past 2 seasons and have gotten the 9th pick. Right now they’re probably the 7th worst team.

They probably need to trade sexton, Collins and clarkson but they really don’t have any value so they may have to pay someone to dump them.

I also don’t think Lauri’s value goes up on a long term contract. Ainge has been trying to trade Lauri for 2 years for a haul on a cheap contract and he hasn’t been able to. Having a larger contract will make it harder and will have to take back contracts to match. So he basically won’t trade Lauri if he continues to wait for the haul he wants since no one has obliged on a cheaper contract.

that offer yes, that 25 swap most likely wont happen, so it becomes 2 firsts and a swap and moody.

Is that officially what we're offering now? Ugh. It's an overpay, but I'd probably do it. Moody, Loon, and GP2 probably wouldn't play much anyway for various reasons, so it's really down to the picks and swaps. Specifically that '28 FRP, if unprotected, would hurt. But Markkanen I think makes them better and keeps Steph and Draymond happy because it's the most plausible way for them to be competitive in the short term. Keeping JK, Podz, and TJD is huge and means we didn't have to deplete our youth and bench to add a starter.

Starting the "second timeline" around Markkanen, Kuminga, Podz, and TJD...you could do a lot worse. And as Onus said earlier, Markkanen probably still has value to numerous teams and brings back some picks if the whole thing collapses and a rebuild becomes necessary.

It's not bad. You've got some shooting, some defense, some size and length, some slashing, some rebounding, some FT%, some BBIQ, some positional flexibility, and some glue. Enough to win a chip? Ehh probably not, but it's a greater than 0% chance, which is about all they can hope for now. And from Lacob's perspective, maybe just as importantly, looks like an entertaining watch.

Yeah, but by all reports the extension will happen. I just think Ainge will maximize his value, believing he can tank the franchise by dumping the other players and then moving Lauri Feb 6th.

There are some expiring contracts around the league where a 3rd team can get involved for minor compensation. I do think it's a risky plan to move Lauri on Feb 6th, you get a more limited window to deal. But he may believe a desperate team could emerge, and he could be right. I'd be surprised if a guy on a long term deal is worth less, I mean the whole knock right now is Lauri can walk if traded. Anyone trading for him should value him at the higher salary, otherwise why are they giving up so much to get him?

But yeah if I was Ainge the offers have been strong enough to make the deal (I'm sure he could get slightly more than our offer) & secure a full tank for the next 2 years.

Wouldn't be ecstatic for it but I'd do it.

The reality is even though I think the run is over and we gotta be thinking about what comes next, Steph is not done yet, so we're not gonna actually tank for at least 2 or 3 more years. So, giving up the next 4 years of picks... fine.

Yea teams are trading him with the thought he’s staying long term. Him actually being on a long term max just makes it harder to trade for him. They won’t be getting more value at the trade deadline.

Lauri has been on the trade block for 2 years now. If he was going to go for more value someone would’ve already offered it.

If that’s it, sure. Should be a playoff team in 25 barring some serious bad luck, 26 will likely be a better record than Utah neutralizing the swap. Only questions would be 27 and 28 which would depend on Steph’s decline and if Lauri, JK and Podz continue to improve. Could go either way.

No chance Ainge takes that deal. They’ll want the protected part of the 30 pick to start

The whole premise of this poll is screwed up. Does anyone here honestly believe that Ainge would accept a deal that doesn't include either Podz or Kuminga or both? Yes, Ainge wants a bundle of draft picks. But, he also wants another young player - most likely Podz - that he can develop, play for cheap and spin off in a few years for what - that's right, even more draft picks.

What he wants and what the going rate is for a player of Lauri’s caliber is two different animals. Especially with him being an impending free agent.

Raptors didn’t get a young talent and picks for OG. Just young talent

They didn’t get that for Siakam. Just picks.

Nets didn’t get that for Mikal Bridges, just picks.

So why is Ainge getting it for a similar player? The only edge he has is the feeling he can just keep him and give him an extension and bigger deal. Cool, add a near $40 mil a year deal to a rebuilding team nowhere close to playoff contention. Call that bluff.
