The Time to Trade him is Now

Remember when I said the time to trade Klay was now 1.5 years ago?

Well, it's time to trade Wiggins.

And yes, I understand that he defends Tatum great. I understand that he was awesome in the '22 chip. I get that he can be the #2 scorer for the team. I don't disagree with any of that.

The time to trade him is now. Before the deadline this season. He is not getting back to '22 form.

His contract is not awful. He is movable.

Agreed. He's our best trade asset right now. If we don't ship him by the deadline it'll be yet another in a long line of selling-low flubs for this fo

Giannis for Wiggins/Kuminga/Podz & firsts MAKE IT HAPPEN MDJ

Stop with the madness. Giannis is OKC's for the taking. In addition to their own future first round picks, OKC has a bunch of pick swaps and four other teams future first round picks:

2025 or 2026 first round draft pick from Miami

2025 first round draft pick from Philadelphia

2025 or 2026 first round draft pick from Utah

2027 or 2029 first round draft pick from Denver

https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

Further encumbering the Warriors' chances is the fact that their own 2030 first round pick is already encumbered, having been sent to the Wizards in the Poole deal. So, all the Dubs can offer is a package of either 2025 and 2027 first round picks or 2026 and 2028 first round picks. Either package would presumably be supplemented with pick swaps. But, it's still not nearly enough to compete with OKC can offer.

Can OKC afford to get Giannis while still keeping their core together for the next few years? They have some big bills coming up and they aren't going to trade SGA or Chet

J-Dub and firsts dwarves anything we could possibly do but afaik they can't afford to pay everyone

It depends on what type of trade.

If it's in a package with other Warrior assets like Podz, Kuminga, TJD, picks, for a bonafied star player, sure I could get on board with it.

However, if it's to move him for another player that's not as good, and picks or something like that, then I'm not so sure.

Trade Draymond while some teams may still believe he has turned a new leaf!

OKC's payroll structure looks great:

https://hoopshype.com/salaries/oklahoma_city_thunder/

SGA is signed through the end of the 26/27 season. Chet and Jalen Williams don't hit restricted free agency until the start of the 26/27 season, a season for which OKC currently has less than $61 million committed and the luxury tax cap will be an estimated $206.7 million. Salary restrictions are not a concern for OKC.

But OKC is a small market and it's not clear what their owners are willing to pay.

Plus Giannis would presumably indicate a preference. But the Bucks will wait until the trade deadline and it has to be a huge disaster and Giannis would have to ask to be traded.

If the only target is Giannis, Warriors will have to wait.

The other thing is that there are more players tradable after December 15, aren't there?

First off, Giannis doesn't have a no-trade clause. He'll go wherever the hell Milwaukee says he has to go. Second, he'd be a damn fool to complain about a trade to OKC. He'd be a perfect fit for that lineup and he'd likely win multiple rings there. Third, this is how the world works.

That only works if you include Santos (to make it legal) and then dump about $15M in salary to fill out the roster and stay under the hard cap.

Trade him for whom? I get the feeling sticking with Wiggins will be the best available move.

Aside from the ones who could never be dealt (Curry, Dray) and excluding the new guy who we couldnt deal til 12/15 (Hield), Wiggins is the last guy I'd want to deal unless its for an upgrade that is capable defensively. He is one of 2 guys who can actually slip screens well and is part of the lineup that is likely going to be our best 5 man unit. 3rd best boxout rate on the team - for a SF that's incredible

When the team finally goes to the Curry - <SG> - Wiggins - Dray - Looney lineup for any meaningful amount of time, people's opinion will rise. What is interesting to me is people frequently cite 21-22 as his peak, yet if you roll all his minutes together since where he's played with that lineup and role, which is off-ball, he performs at nearly exactly the same level. Its a huge reason I take issue with Kerr.. put this guy in the position where he thrived. Would not only elevate him, but elevates Looney as well

Its hard to project how this lineup would go because Hield's numbers are way too crazy to extrapolate at this time, but Curry-Hield-Wiggins-Dray-Looney has incredible upside. 3.5 minutes together so far though, but here are some insane numbers to think about:

In those 3:38, that unit scored on every single possession. Every shot they took and missed, they grabbed an offensive rebound and eventually scored, with 0 turnovers. Defensively they grabbed 3 of 4 rebounds. Crazy small sample size, but it needs to be fleshed out. There's no reason not to

You cant trade wiggins for a big ticket item because he doesn't make enough. We would need to combine a few players to get 1 guy, but that would leave us short on players with no room to add.

Or we trade wiggins for another 20ish mill guy, but not many playetd who will provide what we need to replace. Wiggins has uniquely morphed into fitting with both steph and dray.

So, what people really want is to salary dump wiggins to just to get him off the roster to make jk the full time SF.

Trade him for who? You’re not getting a better 2 way player for him without adding other assets and then we need to fill the roster with vet mins by getting under the 1st apron somehow. It’s damn near impossible to make a trade this year. The time to make a trade was in the off season and we failed.

I think there could be a small deal around the margins after December 15th.

Something like gp2 or melton for valanciunus.

JV is on a good deal, so they might just want to flip him for an small asset. I wouldn't add a pick, but would consider adding tjd.

J-Vals would be a fine backup, I guess, but he's a terrible system fit. If we're not happy with TJD, I dont know why we'd be happy with another bad defender, except a worse on the perimeter. Rebounding and offense would improve but the odds that it offsets the defense (and if it does, if its worth the extra salary and trade value it would cost) seems unlikely

J-Vals has 2 huge benefits going for him right now - the guy he's replacing really sucks out loud, and he's playing against reserves on a bad team, yet he's still metrics are dragging him, peripherals dont like him.. for this team, he's likely a step down from TJD because the system lends itself far more to a lob threat than a low block plodder
