Steve Kerr was grossly outcoached in this series

Post#1 » by cpower » Tue May 13, 2025 5:11 am

For all the options he is going with TJD who is statistically one of the worst players in the league. He overused Podz and GP2 and should have played Moody and Santos a little more. Looney was one of the best players in this game and he never saw the floor again.. I know this team is not good enough to beat the wolves in a series but Kerr has been doing a lot of random stuff lately. He said we will win by defense then play heavy TJD mins who is the worst defender on the team...like wtf was that?

Mistakes Kerr does that are obvious:

Playing TJD. He had negative minutes the whole season despite playing with the best players on the team.

Playing Kuminga and Spencer together. They have the worst minutes playing together. I like them as players but they don't have chemistry together. Worse is that their bad minutes together obfuscates their usefulness on other lineups where they aren't paired with each other.

Playing Kuminga and Moody together. Another case of bad chemistry. They've been playing together since they first came into the league so there is maybe an expectation they work well together. Unfortunately the accumulated data suggests they are mediocre together at best. Again by insisting on playing them together it puts them in a less flattering light and obscures their value if played with other teammates.

Successful experimental lineups that are forgotten about and never seen again. I didn't mind Kerr's experiments earlier in the season and in Game 2 of this series but they are useless and a waste if he's not going to learn anything from them.

Not playing Looney more. Looney was a starter on a championship team and he is in his peak years. Why isn't he playing more?

also from defensive endpoint...what are we doing out there not defending the three point line? They have 4 players shooting more than 45% on threes and we have 0....THE ONLY WAY WE CAN WIN IS TO GRIND IT OUT and no threes. And every L is because of the threes... I am convinced that Steve Kerr is actually bipolar that he thinks one thing and executes something completely different.

LOL!

It doesn't even matter what any coach would do with Jimmy and Draymond playing like that.

Are you guys kidding me? The moment things don't go well, we go back to the knee jerk blame Steve takes. Unreal, but I guess I should have known.

We would have won this series with Steph, but maybe you don't give the Wolves enough credit? Did you expect us to beat them without Steph??

Yes. I expect this team to beat the Wolves even without Steph. With a more capable coach it would be possible. Maybe one could even train an AI that would be better with rotations.

So you don't respect the Wolves and overrate our roster. They are a good team, they'll be making the WCF 2 seasons in a row, and Ant is a budding superstar. We don't have depth, and the Wolves made our weaker shooters shoot instead of Jimmy and Buddy. Buddy got shots up, but he was always covered. They left Gary, Podz, and Draymond open who all threw up bricks.

The roster is missing a starting SG who can actually shoot. There is no 3&D guy to pluck from the bench. And if you want to blame Steve for playing Podz and Gary so much, they led the team in plus minus for anyone who played 15 minutes. There are roster limitations we all know existed before Jimmy got here, and now Steph is out.

This was a losing record team before Jimmy got here and we're now down our best player. Embrace reality.

What did we hear at the beginning of this season? That the team had a very deep roster. Most of that deep roster went with the Butler, Melton, and Schroder trades, but there are still some that were kept. Presumably they were kept because they were recognized as having value. So why aren't those remnants of the deep bench playing more while Butler and Draymond are getting run ragged? If circumstances didn't demand it Kuminga would probably still be riding pine. Looney, Spencer and Santos I suspect could all be played to positive effect by a better coach but instead Kerr goes with TJD who was 21st on the team in plus-minus despite playing with the starters most of the season.

Take Anthony Edward’s away from Finch in Game 1 and the Warriors just won 4-0. Terrible take.

Are all you guys defending Kerr giving up? Are you all saying there was no way to win?

Then what I want to see is Spencer starting and if the team goes down in flames it will be predictable and I will join the chorus exonerating Kerr and saying he had too little to work with.

But why is it I keep getting the feeling they'd win? Just don't play him with Kuminga.

This isn't about series with Minny. Kerr is lost in his rotations. Look to others teams, mostly all teams picked shortened rotations from 7 to 9 players coming Play off season. And they stick with these rotations.

Kerr like chicken without head, doesnt know who is his best center after 82 games (Looney/Post/Davis). He is playing them all in PO and all of them are out of the rythm. Moodey/Kuminga/Hield are in or out, Hield from bench player with 15min to starter and 36min playing time.

I dont blame him for this series, I blame him for concept he picked before Play offs...this was straight way to where we are now.

Everybody thought that w/o Curry we would have lock down defence. Where is that?

Had a low chance to win without Curry, BUT Kerr made it even worse by being outcoached and brainfart lineups e.g. love affair with BP, TJD starting the 2nd half especially, etc. An underdog can't afford both severe lack of talent PLUS Kerr not optimizing what he has.

Kerr basically turned off manual subs and let the CPU handle the lineups every game lmao

Clearly not. The CPU would do better.

We never had a deep roster. We had a 90+ rated player, two 80+ rated players, and literally the rest were low 70s and 60s. I've never seen a team have mediocrity so evenly spread across 9 players who belong on the bench. I never understood this basketball philosophy. I'd rather have 5-6 legit starters and G Leaguers fill the bench than a deep bench of mediocre players. Once you establish the main 5, the rest becomes easier to fill. Jimmy Butler trade was good for that and in that direction, but you know what would've been better to go along with that? Trading BP and Kuminga for another borderline allstar or at least a bonefied Starter.

Still, even if they inevitably lose the series, I still think the Warriors over-achieved this year given the amount of talent they have. I think we learned that Podz and Moody were VASTLY OVERRATED this year. Just 'cause someone is technically in the starting lineup, doesn't mean they're good enough to be there.

the roster is pure shite. this is the reality to embrace. dubs missing 2 quality level starters (a SG and another wing) and other 2 reliable bench players (1PG/SG who can handle the ball and a big man who can give quality minutes).
I agree with who says it'd be better have 6-7 reliable players and the rest g-leaguers than this amount of mediocre players who cannot be trusted. there are too many scrubs on the roster. they cannot even play above average 1 effing game out of 4. even a broken clock is right twice a day, yet the likes of podz, moody, post, etc. cannot even play a great game every 4.
the only players they should retrieve next season are curry, butler, green (question mark, depending on roster construction), hield (he's the only shooter a roster with steph), kuminga (question mark). and THAT"S IT. the rest of the current players should be traded in an attempt to land upgrades in every position becasue they are not good.
if giannis wants to come over then even butler, green and kuminga are expendable.

having said that, the CS hasn't been part part of the solution, and not because of this series in particular but for everything else before.

There's no question mark around Kuminga, come on.

yes, question mark.
depends how much $$ he wants to stay and which other players will be available in the market.
if gianis wants out of MIL and has GS as a welcome landing spot for instance, is kuminga off the table in trade negotiations?
