Steph needs to be paid like like an aging vet

Steph is still the best player on this team but given his age and where the team needs needs to go, in order to start the next era of warriors basketball he should be in the ballpark of a tapering 25M/yr contract.
The will be stuck in mediocre purgatory until this happens.

Did you see Kobe’s last contract?
Did you see Lebron taking discounts?
Do you know how much worth Steph is still in reality with all that 10B valuation hanging on his employment with Ws?

The issue is that Steph is still a top 10 player in the league. Hes also the only player to win on a super max contract.

I don't mind Steph getting paid like he is but wish that Butler and Green were not eating the rest of the cap.

I don't mind Butler so much, at least prior to the injury. He did quite well making other players better, and given a full offseason with the team, should help out more.
I don't see any of that with Draymond now.

Not sure what you mean. He's paid $59M for the upcoming season, and $62M the following. Nothing can be done about that. Are you talking about 27-28? Who knows what Steph or the Warriors will look like by then.

Literally the worst examples. LeBron hopped teams and Kobe’s last 3 years had less than 30 wins per season.
The better examples to look at would be the spurs and how their loyal stars helped build a sustainable winning roster that transcends through multiple eras. Tim Duncan being a great example that took less.

Multiple eras? Spurs have done nothing as soon as Duncan retired and are only relevant now because they got Wemby.

Yea not much we can do for the next 2 years, just ranting that we haven’t been able to flip the switch to fresh blood because of how tied up the budget has been due to Steph’s contracts.

Steph is one of the few players in the league who can dominate a playoff series. I don't think people understand how unique that is and how hard that is to acquire that type of player in the NBA. When you have one of those guys you ride them to the end, especially if you drafted them and they want to stay.

Steph has made more money than anyone can meaningfully spend, I really hope he goes for a very small contract when he re-signs.

OP doesn't have many posts. Consequently, we should excuse his naivete. The fact is that Steph isn't just a dominant player on the court who, despite his age, still chalked up two more 50 point performances last season. Steph is also a marketing juggernaut, routinely either the #1 or #2 top selling jersey in the League. This combination, absent CBA restrictions and luxury tax caps, would easily net Steph an annual salary of over $100 million per season. His presence alone on a roster could boost the market value of the right team by upwards of $1 billion. He isn't overpaid. Steph is, and quite frankly always has been, among the most underpaid players in the League.

They had a nice playoff winning season streak after Tim. Approximately 3 years after he hung them up..

So basically where we are now in the playoff hunt 3 years removed from a title ...

Whoever the 3 are, its not realistic to have 80% of your cap tied into 3 players and also expect to be able to rest those 3 players more than other starters in order to avoid injury and not lack talent nor have consistency problems. Thrown on top of that, the offense is built around an ultra unique player and one of the other 3 is incapable (or unwilling) to be effective when that ultra unique player isnt playing.
So the rest of the roster needs to fit seamlessly with “A”, but be good enough to hold down the fort when “A” isnt around. Meanwhile “C” is only useful when “A” is playing. “B” doesnt have fit issues but isnt as good as “A” but makes comparable money.
Then all we hear is how its someone elses fault the past few years.

I don't think anyone is saying Steph isn't worth whatever he wants...of course he is. But if he truly wants to compete for championships in his final years, the best way to do that is for him (and Jimmy, and Draymond) to take a discount. That's on him. I'm not going to tell him to do it. Lacob's not going to tell him to do it. But he knows what the Warriors financial situation is, it's up to him how bad he wants another championship. If he's content to rake in the dough on the darkest of dark horse teams (not bad, but really fringe Championship contender), then fine. But they have almost no flexibility to meaningfully improve a very flawed roster right now. That affects Steph in more ways than chasing chips too, his injury in the playoffs might have been avoided with a few pieces who could win more regular season games, and give him more rest.

Draymond’s contract is more than reasonable for what he provides. Butler is the one whose contract looks way out of wack. Can’t do jack about it though.

Absolutely hilarious that fans want Steph to give a discount when he’s still a top 10 player when we’re paying Jimmy 55+M a year and he’s a top 30 player.

Steph still provides a ton of value on and off the court.
Jimmy otoh, is a different story. He's the one that should have taken a cut, there's a reason why no one outside of the suns are willing to pay him that extension.

Steph’s not FA though so it’s really moot.
I assume if he signs another contract with the team it’ll be significantly less than the current one.
