Thank you to Looney

Post#1 » by clyde21 » Mon Jun 30, 2025 11:29 pm

One of my favorite Warriors of the last decade, incredible career arc, turning himself from a jumbo wing type coming out of UCLA into a lynchpin big for over multiple championship runs, all because hip injuries killed all his athleticism

great cat, great Warrior

One of my favorites on and off the court. Something tells me he will cross paths with the Dubs again… either in a vet min signing down the road or working for the team after retirement.

Glad to have him, always liked him on the floor. How is he as a locker room guy?

He's been the adult in the room for years. Wise beyond his years and is always level headed. He's going to be your locker room vet.

Glad he got some more money for his family.

Hope he comes back to be a coach when his playing career is over.

Ya he’s the epitome of a pro’s pro. Not overly loud or anything like that, but leads by example and everyone respects him. And when he needs to, he will do the above and beyond team leader stuff… example, he set up some players only extra practices when the team was getting sloppy with fundamentals and drilled everyone on screening.

For the Pelicans, I think the fact that Looney has been a massive help to Trayce and Post is a main reason they targeted him. Loon never complained at all about minutes, and was basically a coach for those young centers. Pelicans have even younger centers, and Loon will gladly earn his paycheck in the training facility and bench by mentoring them. And more often than not, he actually should be the guy out on the court rebounding everything, setting screens, passing well, and playing solid defense.

Gotta be in the Mt. Rushmore of most universally loved Warriors of all time right?

Genuinely more bummed to lose him than Klay. Happy he got the bag.

Oh man, I just saw this. Knew it was possible but still shocking. Loon was a great Warrior and a class act all the way, best of luck! Also, insane he's not even 30 yet, feels like he's been here as long as Steph.

Retire Looney's number and hang the man's jersey from the rafters. :D

One of my favorite Bruins and Warriors. A true pro with great hustle and a friendly even-keel demeanor. Looney will definitely be missed.

Some of those playoff games in 21-22 and 22-23 where he had like 20 rebounds a game to push them through playoff series were just legendary. It's the only time I can remember as a Warriors fan being so pumped over a guy's rebounding performances. Normal such a stoic and frankly slow-moving guy, he was such an animal in those games. And just fun to watch how smart he was going after rebounds over faster/bigger players, he knew all the angles instinctually and started tracking the ball as soon as it went up to be in the right position.

I am sad to see him go. At times, I don't think he was used enough. Was he great? No, of course not. But he was useful. Dependable. And of course, a great teammate.
