I watched a few games from the Joe smith rookie season and thought looked like a star.
Why was he traded?
Why was his rookie season his best season?
Was he injury plagued?

That was a pretty underrated draft when you think about it. The top 5 picks all had 15+ year careers which is insane. Joe Smith was a good NBA player but outshadowed by those other four guys taken after him.

If I recall correctly Joe was traded because he was always going to be a disappoint here as the no 1 pick in the draft with KG and Kobe, so he just needed to move on from the expectations of the no 1 pick in a new environment.

He wanted a lot of money, and wasn't improving. Rather than get trapped owing a #1 pick a ton of money, we traded him for a decent package of players.
As was mentioned, he really was a solid player. Just not a #1 overall pick type of player. Ah, The Beast from the East.

Warriors picked Todd Fuller in the Kobe draft but KG was in the Joe Smith draft.
Joe was just an ordinary Joe and the most noteworthy thing about him was that he and the Wolves got busted for having an under the table deal on a long term contract.

One of the very few good moves made by this franchise in the 2nd half of the 90s.

Joe Smith had a great rookie year and showed tons of promise. I believe he just lost heart and changed his game to take less of a beating on a very poor team.

Other than calling a guy a BITCH, not sure you can insult a professional athlete worse. Not saying you're wrong, I didn't follow Joe's career in Minny, at all.

He was decent, never lived up to his billing....he had that wigginsesque lack aggressiveness on offense and was a bit soft on d.

Joe was so ordinary even his parents had the foresight to name him Joe.

If I remembered, he was the only bright spot until he didn't want to sign an extension. We got back Jimmy Jackson and Weatherspoon for anything of value.

I actually thought he was trash, even when I watched him when I was 10.

Big Joe Smith fan as a kid growing up in the 90s. Those mid 1990s Warriors definitely had a 2-timelines roster as well.
'96-97:
Young guys: Joe Smith (1yr), Todd Fuller (R), Donyell Marshall (2), Sprewell (4)
Vets: Chris Mullin (11yrs), Mark Price (10 yrs), B.J Armstrong (7)
So much potential the Warriors had in early and mid 90s, but wasted it all. Ended up going to late 90s and early 2000s being awful.

Way better. I’d love a Cornbread clone on this team. Joe Smith would be better than most of the 5s we’ve had, but that’s not saying much.

What happened to Joe Smith?
Latrell Spreewell happened to Joe Smith. Joe was a good kid, super motor...then Spreewell poisoned him and the rest of his team - Spree was a cancer after his but buddy Webber was traded.
