I haven't given much of an opinion on Kuminga but the way the conversation is turning I thought I'd give my two cents.
Kuminga is getting criticized for not playing the "right way" and being selfish. He's accused of being a ballstopper and not playing in the flow of the offense. As a result it seems he's gotten into a bit of a clash with Kerr, if not a verbal argument at least a philosophical one. Who else was in this situation? KD.
Sure the team wasn't as good when KD was looking to get his but having his ability to get a bucket was still valuable. I must therefore ask isn't that the entire rationale for having Kuminga on this team? His ability to drive when the motion offense gets stuck? So why are some people being so hard on him when he tries? Kuminga needs to get the reps in somewhere and learn what works for him and what doesn't. The 1 out of 10 from him in the last game he played is certainly disappointing but most of all for him. Kuminga would probably most keenly feel the weight right then. Therefore Kerr benching him in under such circumstances really seems like a crossing of the Rubicon.
Superficially Kerr's move makes sense but on a deeper level it doesn't. Podz is as much of a ballstopper as Kuminga when he enters his automatic set move sequence but he's given a lot of rope even though in a tight playoffs setting he isn't expected to really have the tools to punish an opponent. Kuminga does but he isn't given the same runway. it just doesn't make sense.

Re: The Kuminga Kerr KD connection
KD is good/efficient enough to run the Offense through, JK, not so much
