Mbenga officially waived....what's this mean?

Warriors waive DJ Mbenga
From Janny Hu.

Just about to head off the to practice facility, but thought I'd pass this along:
Backup center DJ Mbenga is now an ex-Warrior after being cut today. His contract would have become guaranteed for the rest of the season on Thursday, so this saves the Warriors some money, and more importantly, clears a roster space.

Mbenga appeared in 16 games for the Warriors, averaging 1.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.9 minutes per contest.

Bye bye mbenga--

Does this portend more POB usage (I only hope!) I'm a little surprised, actaully, given Nellie's seeming love affair with the kindhearted Congan.

Honestly the whole Mbenga thing was a complete waste of time.

Although I wish DJ the best, he seems like a nice guy and a hard worker.

That's strange.

Certainly there is some logic in that they didn't want his contract guaranteed, but he was putting in some substantial minutes and I think he was doing a decent job bodying up the bigger centers on defense.

My guess is that we've agreed to a trade that will bring in another center and I think it's going to be a recognizable name. Just a guess though.

BTW, why are we not cutting Hudson?

I'm glad we didn't have time to see if POB was any good so we could scout Mbenga.. my mind is at ease now.

Hudson's contract is guaranteed. There is no savings from waiving him, and by keeping him they have a small expiring contract to use to fill out any trade.

Hip Hip Hooray!

Obviously, it probably means a move of sort is about to made? Lasme coming back (they've heard Rowell's cries)? Somebody else from the 'D" League (Benson)? POB getting more pt (I doubt that)? Stay tuned.

Boy that Mullin is sure turning out to be full of it (said that it was almost for certain that they were going to extend Benga's contract).

Perhaps they decided to just give him another 10 day deal and see how it works out. They certainly don't have to worry about someone else grabbing him (at least I don't think so).

This is a huge blow for LF.

This gives the Warriors a little more roster spot flexibility. There will definitely some new guy coming in before the Feb trade deadline, just don't know whether it'll be via trade or FA.

I'd put money on us signing a guard to replace Mbenga... and POB still getting no minutes. If anything, this could mean more minutes for Wright... but I'm not holding my breath.

tragic...but you're probably right....if I'm O'Bryant, at this point, I'm planting stink bombs in Nelson's briefcase

We'll have to just be there for him in this difficult time.
This is a warm, caring community and I hope he knws...

he has friends here.

Just to throw out some random speculation....

Seattle is sitting Wilcox, Ridnour, and Gellybelly tonight.

Wilcox has a minor injury that may be holding him out...but maybe he's sitting for a different reason....like a trade.

It's possible that we've opened up a roster spot for a PG... but a 2 for 1 trade sounds more exciting.

Also... feel more confident in picking up a PG since McDew has signed to play overseas, nobody wants his love child here on a regular basis.

I think it was cheaper to cut Mbenga than Hudson.

With Hudson's career possibly being over, the NBA might award them with some cap relief or something.

I hope they deal to get Magloire from the Nets. He'd be more productive than Mbenga and might be answer to our defense and rebounding. The guy can make FT's.

No Bird Man please.

If I had to guess which teams might be W's best trading partner it's Miami or Milwaukee.

Miami...I'll take Dorell Wright,Haslem and JWill(I'm not a big fan of JWill)

Milwaukee...I'll take Redd and CV...I'll give up Bellinelli,MP and Patrick O'bryant.

HoopsHype says Lindsey Hunter(and Flip Murray) are available. I doubt Hunter is, he's seems like a key role player for the Pistons. I'd love to have him though.

That's about $14 million in contracts.
Two players making $14 million combined...

We don't have that unless we're sending longer contracts than we're taking back, do we? Seems unlikely for Seattle, especially considering the most likely contract is not coming in to take minutes from Green and Durant. So. Probably not all part of a piece there, Nick. But not out of the question. Two of those three are definitely renting in Seattle.

Don't recall Seattle folks at the Hornets game but...

Three way? Wish I knew.

Nice to be in speculation season, though. Maybe just a ten-day.

Better sources than I have recently shared showcase ideas publicly already. No reason to doubt them thus far.

man, I'm a fan too, but are you even serious??? Why not just ask them to throw in Ji for Barnes while you're at it?
