Great, Dubbs get a crazy head coach.

And now Niners get a crazy offensive genius to setup mismatches like Nellie. Small ball anyone? :rofl2:

Our quarterback is gonna get mauled worse than usual with those kooky protection schemes of his. :ouch:

...and hopefully Gore doesn't get ignored.

I will be surprised if we do not have 5 Tightends as offensive line...

Sound familiar?

The Niners are turning into the Warriors of the late-90's.

This is pathetic.

Except that he's completely the opposite of Nolan, who's his boss. I admired the fact that Nolan went all out but this is going to back-fired. Well, he's on short-leash anyway...

Poor pass blocking offensive line+ poor Wr's + a iffy QB situation = recipe for disaster under Martz.

So you want the GREAT Hostler back? :rofl2:

I think Martz is giving a big F you to the Niners front office.

Apparently the York's had reservations with Martz and McLoughlin (sp) publicly stated that the Niners were not interested in Martz.

This bizarre hiring is Nolan's way of showing that he is still the captain of the ship, even if its a leaky one. I just can't wait for him to go down with it. The guy reminds me of Mousetrap. Big on slogans, needs to show that he's the Alpha Male, but the mind of a JV Coach.

Hey, Martz runs an explosive, dangerous offense. Combined with what should be a sturdy defense, that should make for a more interesting 'Niners team next season.

Sure the QBs might get knocked around. But it's not like they have Payton Manning to protect back there. Guys just have to learn to get rid of the ball fast.

if we can get some decent wideouts we'll be better.

battle is a 3rd wideout at best and jackson is 2nd at best.

Cam Cameron seemed like the logical choice. Cameron runs a similar offense to Norv turner that utilizes the run game(Gore) and the Tight end (V.Davis) position unlike Martz.

Under Martz your going have an entertaining passing game, but your also going to give up a ton of sacks and turn the ball over a lot.

That was basically the reason the Chargers hired Norv, was that he was similar to Cameron. I guess Cameron felt the Rams job was a better gig.

Well if you have no talent, you have to hire a gimmick coach to take the risk. Then trade/sign guys to shape it into the coach's image.

You know Nellie is the same... otherwise... we be seeing one more ex-Dubbs coach... and another victim of a coach.... and yet another year in the lottery.

Martz is an elite NFL offensive coordinator--I actually like the hire.

Martz turned Jon frikken Kitna into a 4000 yd QB. He's had success with some other QBs before that we know too well. Gore is an excellent receiver, he should be okay. I hope, what else can we do. hope....

--RBs coach Bishop Harris and offensive assistant/offensive line Mark Nori have not been retained, Nolan said.

--Nolan said he hired Martz after narrowing his search down to seven candidates. Chan Gailey was the only other coach he interviewed face to face. Nolan did not divulge the other five candidates.

--One thing Nolan said he appreciates about Martz is that he utilizes his personnel very well. He's coached two NFL offensive players of the year, Kurt Warner and Marshall Faulk. Nolan said he has also coached guys from obscurity into stars, namely Warner, Trent Green and Marc Bulger.

--The first player Martz talked about was Frank Gore. He was quick to recognize that Gore is not ---Martz also spoke to Nolan about Joe Staley, calling him an outstanding player.

--Nolan said that Martz also was excited about the prospects of both quarterbacks being very good.

--Martz signed a two-year contract, Nolan confirmed.

--He will have autonomy. "It'll be his offense," Nolan said. "He is the offensive coordinator."

--Nolan said Martz will largely make use of the "cards" he's dealt, as far as personnel. Nolan said they have some very good players.

--As far as the receivers, Nolan pointed out the success Martz had with receiver Mike Furrey, a converted defensive back.

--Nolan said the 49ers are already a better football team after this hire.

--During the technical difficulties in getting on the conference call, Nolan said he fielded a call from Saints coach Sean Payton, who congratulated him on hiring Martz.

--As far as determining the starting QB, Nolan said, "Mike is the expert on quarterback play." (And, no, Nolan wasn't speaking in the third person; he meant Martz.) Nolan went on to say that the situation, he believes, will play itself out and the starting QB will end up becoming obvious.

--Nolan said he had not spoken to Alex Smith or Shaun Hill. He said the only player with whom he spoke was Frank Gore.

Nolan is a chump. Talks a big game, wins 5 games a year.
