The Trade Deadline

Post#1 » by Chris Cohan » Fri Jan 11, 2008 4:30 am

I never have any really solid, good info on trade potential. I was hearing that the Warriors were really close to Jermaine O'Neal until about a week before the Indiana trade so I just assume I'm being fed BS whenever real names are mentioned. However.

Heard something about Chicago not too long ago but no idea how credible the source is. Joe Smith and Duhon. I don't buy it but thought I'd put it out there to get the annual pre-deadline month of fun rolling a bit early.

Doesn't Smith have a 2 year deal? How awful would that be...

No he does not.

I should say that, financially, I'd love to acquire the expiring $8.5 million if we're talking actual savings.

I like Duhon a lot, I wouldn't mind this trade.

Really? Hmmm...

Getting Duhon would be a mixed bag though. He's good enough to crap on a 3rd string role, but not really good enough to consider as a replacement for Monta or Baron... so I'd be wary of it.

AJ remains my favorite target... that situation just seems to be the ideal one for us.

Duhon doesn't replace anyone, he becomes the backup PG.

If he becomes the primary backup to Baron, he becomes a 10 mpg player.

Think we can sell him on being that guy for more than the rest of the season? Zero chance - this guy was knocking down the Hinrich door and honestly should be starting in Chicago.

So unless he replaces someone, he bolts.

In the short term I would rather have Kurt Thomas than Wilcox. Wilcox is strictly a power forward. Thomas can play Center or power forward. Thomas is a better rebounder. The trade exception and a little something could probably get us Thomas.

My guess: There won't be any trade. This is the team.

Trade is unlikely, there just aren't that many desirable names out there that are available this year. :(

I don't see any Warrior names... the trade is about who you give up, too.

I think there probably will be a Warriors trade... Nellie likes to pull the trigger, similarly Don Nelson is always swapping his players out and is on the short-term track. And Mullin knows the Warriors aren't good enough right now, and it's his job to make them better.

I can see that we could use some help, but who do we let go of?

There will be opportunities to swing a deal, but the way the Warriors have been spending money, I'm not so sure they will. There are a lot of league wide rumors out there, but nothing involving the Warriors. There is some minor noise out there regarding Pietrus, but I don't think the Warriors move him unless something really unexpected is offered.

Barkley was on TNT last night saying that the Kings should trade alot of their vets and rebuild he future.

Miller
Artest
Bibby
KThomas
Shareef

Now it's just Charles spouting off, but I've thought the same thing and it's a matter of time before some deals get made. IMO.

For us Artest makes the most sense out of many of the names that are thrown around and possibly realistic.

He's got friends on the roster and he was in our locker-room getting autographs in the playoffs. TRU WARRIOR are you kidding me.

His defense could be the spark that gets us off to good starts by limiting the other teams scoring.

When Baron, Jax, Ronnie, and Beans decided to lock down on defense we could be really tough to handle.

Also Miller is a little to expensive, but he's the perfect center/PF for a Nellie team. Well perfect is to strong, but he fits. Athletically NO, but from a running the offense through the top of the key and a rebounding aspect, Miller could be good for us.

I don't have a problem with Joe Smith. But to me Artest is the best thing we could think about landing this year.

Well... then he is a perfect fit into our "no defense but swatting for the ball for steals" defense.
