wow, the ap writer let dun have it. usually the ap is just trying to relay what happened instead of commentary.

ap wrote:Monta Ellis scored nine of his 29 points during a fourth-quarter comeback, and former Golden State disappointment Mike Dunleavy missed a key free throw for Indiana in the final moments of the Warriors' 106-101 victory Sunday night.
...
The game ended appropriately, with Warriors fans booing Dunleavy as he missed a meaningless 3-pointer.
...
The Warriors have been reborn ever since Dunleavy, Murphy and Ike Diogu were traded to Indiana in an eight-player deal last Jan. 17. Jackson and Harrington became key parts of the core that ended Golden State's 13-year playoff drought, upsetting top-seeded Dallas in the first round and getting this season's team off to a solid start.

Golden State got leadership, defense and stellar shooting in the deal -- while also gaining financial flexibility by ditching the onerous contracts held by Dunleavy and Murphy. Since the trade, Golden State has gone 45-36 and won its biggest playoff series in two decades, while Indiana is 32-51.

The Warriors also got rid of Dunleavy, who was regularly booed throughout his final two seasons in Oakland. Sunday night's Oracle Arena crowd greeted Dunleavy with a hearty round of boos during pregame introductions, and the fans resumed booing whenever Dunleavy touched the ball.

The former No. 3 overall draft pick was a profound disappointment during his 4 1/2 seasons at Golden State, with fans hating everything from Dunleavy's inconsistent shot and tepid defense to his flouncy hairdos and perceived arrogance.

In fact, Dunleavy was booed more regularly than any Warriors player since 1980s center Joe Barry Carroll -- otherwise known as Joe Barely Cares, a moniker that fans felt fit Dunleavy as well.

Dunleavy has been just as grateful as the Bay Area for the trade, averaging a career-best 17.3 points as the Pacers' leading scorer. Earlier Sunday, Dunleavy said he "couldn't care less" what Golden State's fans thought of him.

you stay classy mike dunleavy.

You are the Man, Hopper! :D

And with that, I'm off to sleep (at 6:36 am, Greenwich Meantime +1hr).

Good night and good win.

I was going to go for my birthday (which is tomorrow) but in the end I decided I'd rather watch it from home. Ended up being a good decision, because I threw out my back playing hoops and would have been hurting at the game, instead of at home with lots of ice packs.

I did wear the Cheaney jersey, though. Didn't lose faith even after we were down 17. Jersey moves to 9-2.

Who loves Murph? I had no idea anyone here actually liked the guy . . . other than Rem, but he's not much of a gamethread participant anyway.

Not you..Not me..Not Flop...Not 80% of the people who post here...but there's more than a few people still bashing Dunleavy who always lumped him in with Murphy..In fact they thought Murphy was the better player right up till the trade.

I hated Murph's contract, but liked his blue-collar game.

He had a decent jumpshot... never had an inside game but he is what he is. Also grabbed a lot of boards, at least statistically.

Hated Dunleavy 'cause he was soft, and a blamer.

I'd never boo Murphy but I've wanted to boo Dunleavy.

And what happened to the secret key to the trade? How come no one is giving him props?

murphy actually was a good player his first year or two. he had an edge to his game back then. then he went soft and became a stat padder, sort of a whipped man's danny fortson.

i'm not sure what made him go soft. it was either the constant losing, the injuries, or dunleavy moving in with him and getting matching hairstyles.

My vote goes to overuse and foot injuries because our brain trust couldn't tell that a 260 pound guy with a soft physique wasn't built to be a 40mpg stud.

But coaches are never wrong about players . . . so it couldn't be that.

Tinsley took that show while being double teamed....He had plenty of time to swing the ball to a far better 3 point shooter..Dunleavy was totally correct for being upset with that critical bonehead shot.

I think it's fair to say Monta won the Ellis/Tinsley showdown.

Dunleavy showed that the transition from the WNBA to the NBA can sometimes look good. He also showed that playing basketball while pregnant is possible.

I would still like to have Murphy back just to be a pest for some key bigs... i.e. Duncan and Brand. For whatever reason, they played werid around Murphy.

And yes... Dunleavy can go for 82 point and he still sucks.

BTW.... Dre was hurt and Nellie was trying not to use him..

I love how his only 2 points were on a crucial tip in. I love it.

i just reread this thread after i watched the game... and i'm giving this board an F- for the night... thats right, the Dubs get a C-, but we get an F-. We (meaning us on the board) have become beyond pessimistic. I mean, i understand that this game had alot of poor basketball being played; but still, half of the negative comments just got contradicted a quarter later or were just flat out wrong.

I swear everyone thinks that they would be a better coach than nellie... he was called a bad coach at least 10 times tonight, and NOT only by LF :) .

rant over, good game, i'll take the win. These are the wins that gets us into the playoffs.

Meanwhile, here in the Bay Area, we are hogs in slop. We are the envy of sports fans everywhere. Winning is nice, but what most fans want is a grievance they can sink their fangs into, and our little area has become America's paradise for second-guessers.
The only disappointment is the Warriors. They can be second-guessed, but it's merely pathetic nit-picking.
