Baron and Monta - Best 1-2 Combo?

Post#1 » by turk3d » Tue Jan 15, 2008 3:00 am

How about it? Baron and Monta seem to be becoming one of the most potent 1 and 2 guard combinations in the NBA. How do you think they rate? I realize it may be too early to start billing them as the top 2 guard combination, but I think they are certainly getting close to making a case for themselves. What do you think?

I'd say that the top two right now would have to be Kidd/Carter and Billups/Hamilton with Baron/Monta running a close 3rd.

Baron's probably the best SG listed there, outside of Manu (and that's debatable)

Baron and Ellis and
*it's*
*not*
*close*.

If we only had star PF we'd be contenders right now.

I got to go with Baron-Ellis now that ME is hitting that mid-ranger..That's just brutal to try and stop.

And I get called a homer.

Chauncey/Rip
Parker/Manu
Kidd/Carter

Are probably all better starting backcourts right now.

I like the Harris/Terry/Stack combo

Paul and scrubs is fine for the future

Jack/Blake/Spanish Chocolate/Roy/Rodriguez

Fisher/Crittenton/Bryant/Farmar

Give me Billups/Rip/Stuckey/Afflalo pretty quick here

Nash/Barbosa/Bell? Yes, I think so.

Parker/Ginobli is pretty close, sorry dude.

I'd say it's Baron/Ellis , followed closely by Many/Tony

Not big on Kidd/Carter.

Rip Hamilton is overrated

I'll take our boys if it gets me Monta. Let him run the ball an extra ten possessions a game with a good SG type and he'll be at the Parker assists level, minimum. I ain't saying he's PG ready or anywhere near the great ball handler Baron is (I like Baron a little now and then, I'll admit it) but I like his offense 8 billion times more tha Baron's and I think he can grow to be a very good lockdown man defender against almost all the league's PGs in a system that gives a $#!t about real defense.

But LF has the call: This organization is anti-development until further notice.

For what it's worth, the top 2-player guard combos +/- this season are:

Nash/Hill: +243
Billups/Hamilton: +225
Rondo/Allen(!): +224

Davis/Ellis are +132

Can't mention the Rondo Allen duo with Allen sucking the worst he ever has. But thanks for posting 2/5 of the league's best +/- starting 5 ridiculously out of context. Rondo and Allen sure are the cogs of that machine, no doubt.

Please watch a game tomorrow night, for a nice change of pace.

Thanks J~!

Good catch-- I meant Fernandez, who is good and who would have been the pick over Brickaherpy in a rational NBA.

I never sad the +/- was the be-all or end-all, but a little more data for the conversation. And they are the top +/- guard combos, not the two guards who happen to be playing with the top +/- starting five.

If everyone seriously thinks that Baron and Ellis are the top backcourt in the League today, just bring that over to the player comparison board and watch it get slapped back in your face.

For what it's worth, hester, I actually like Rondo a lot. And Allen has long been a favorite. I almost mentioned them. Then I remembered that Ellis is trouncing Allen in some important categories and Rondo, efficient as he's been, looks great in that lineup. You or I could look great in that lineup for 10 minutes a night. And our two guys are far more versatile/high octane but don't have the help.

Actually, you started a nice little chat here with the Boston cats. Good job. Have a cookie.
