Marty Mac's world: Nelson, Webber to reunite?

Story appeared in SPORTS section, Page C2

Word on the street says Golden State Warriors coach Don Nelson has been seen at Chris Webber's Natomas restaurant, Center Court with C-Webb, twice recently. That only could mean Webber and Nelson are considering the completion of the ultimate full circle and a Webber return to Golden State.

They beefed big-time 14 years ago while both were with the Warriors, but perhaps it is true that time heals all wounds, even gashes.

Stay tuned. With agent Aaron Goodwin representing Gary Payton as well as Webber, could the former Skyline High School (Oakland) guard be far behind? Baron Davis, one of the league's best point guards, needs rest, and Payton surely could fill that backup role.

I don't care about personality and all that...but I do know that Chris has NOTHING left defensively...(and he hardly played that to begin with).

Warriors need a banger..fighter...big body on the boards.....Chris is the softest big man I've ever seen.

honestly though...cwebb still has more post game and passing ability than ANY of our big men. we can just hide cwebb on the weak/slow big man on the other teams...hes not that bad at defense where he doesnt play...he plays smart with his hands and doesnt commit dumb fouls.

He can spread the floor with his jumper, pass from the top or block and he can post up fools. If cwebb does come to the team which i doubt, nellie can just toss him in there and chris can do his damage.

We dont have to do run n gun the whole time...chris allows us to slow it down when baron is out.

So who is going to get cut, if Cweb joins the team?
W's already have 15 players.

If he can come in and not ruin the team Chemistry, I am all for it.

Its not like there are a lot of other big men out there that are available.

If they just cut Thud, they wouldn't have to give up any picks or take on any long term salary.

W's need to do something, Houston and Utah are closing in on the 8th spot.

Guys like CWeb and GP I'm willing to take shot with, providing they're minimum contracts simply because I don' like our alternatives which are: D League or a trade where we wind up getting the short end by adding salary and/or giving up some of our prospect. Both these guys add something we seriously lack, and that's playoff and veteran experience which that alone would be beneficial.

I think that CWeb would be the perfect compliment to Big Al. Even though he may not be much defensively, he is still one of the smartest players around (good at holding, etc.), still probably has a very good low post game and can shoot the ball. I'd much raqther see him as our backup 4 than Barnes all the time. He's actaully a guy who could work with our big men (Biedrins, POB). Heck, he might even be able to show Big Al a few things (like maybe how to rebound better). If Nellie wanted to bring him back, I'd be pretty confident that he could help us. The big thing is that we wouldn't be hurt by future salary implications which is what I'm afraid of if we did some of the other deals which have been talked about. I say cut Thud and CJ and pick up CWeb and GP for vet minimum (this is not meant to be a putdown of CJ).

If I post this question in 95, I'd probably get killed:

Who's better, Webber or Croshere?

I'd take Webber as our backup PF/C for the last 40 games. We absolutely need a guy to body up Duncan, Bynum (when he returns), Boozer, etcetera. I think Chris can provide 15-20 mpg when asked to.

And regarding all the stuff that went down 15 years ago...water under the bridge...as long as we make it better this time around.

If Nellie and Cohan can kiss and make up, why not Nellie and Webber?

I just don't think Webber is a good player anymore, he's broken down - his knees are bone-on-bone, can't run, and doesn't "do the low post thing any more." Plus he probably still thinks he should be the man, and wants more than the minimum. But if we want a guy who can barely run up and down the court, and when he gets down there he's launching jumpers... yep, I guess he's the guy.

There is a reason Detroit hasn't re-signed him.

What I love about the Webber move is..

Nellie could then play Chris and Al at C and move Goose to the bench next to Be Right, POB and Marco.

Webber was complaining about playing C during his first stint, I'm sure that's even more the case now.

Nellie was just on KNBR... says he was in town scouting the Sacto/Jersey game, and that C-Webb's restaurant has the best ribs, that's why he was there. He also said he did not see Webber there! But he also sounded a little cagey and refused to answer whether or not he had talked to Webber lately.

Both Tom and Ralph were down on Webber... Tom said he thinks Webber is done in the League, and that his "athleticism has been done for three years now."

PS, nice to see "Goose" catching on ;)
