Warriors please explain the POB situation once and for all!

What the hell did Obee do to Mulson?

On Fitz and Brooks Mullin mentioned all of the young guys except Patrick.

I wish they would give us some clarity on the issue.

I mean they always dance around it.

Patrick plays well and gets ignored for weeks.

He outplays Bynum in Preseason and never sees the court after that.

He plays really well against the Clippers and then we sign Benga the next day.

It's curious to me why the Warriors aren't asked fully by the vaunted media around here as to what the complete story is.

I wish someone would clear it up.

I wish they'd cut him now...I'd like to see him sign with a team that's out of the playoff race ..So POB can get some 08 playing time..Once he's out there gaining experience, Patrick's going to open some eye's...

My best guess is they probably question his heart. Either way he's gone this summer.

What's so weird (or maybe not?) about this whole thing involving POB, is that he was completely a Mullin pick. I remember listening to KNBR right after that draft (I think Tim Roye was hosting :dontknow: ), and he interviewed Mullin about the POB pick. Mullin said that he actually flew out to New York to see POB one last time prior to the draft "just to be sure". Mullin even then acknowledged that the guy was raw and would take some time to develop. So what the f*** happened between then and now? Does it mean that Nellie has completley castrated Mullin (rather than partly castrated like most have expected)? Mullin always treated "his guys" good before, so why the 180? He even signed Kosta this offseason in a panic move, so that "his pick" wouldn't have seemed like a complete waste. I seriously don't get it.

The biggest (and well deserved) knock on POB is his glacier like slowness when it comes to defensive rotations - a big no no in Nellie's book. But as slow as O'Bryant is, I'll bet Webber is 10 times slower, and Nellie's been courting him for weeks. Ughh..... :curse:

There's a ton of 7 footers in the league and a lot of young guys who don't get playing time. Maybe he just sucks! He didn't play at a big school like Bwright, he didn't do much during the college season, had a great tournament and bumped up his value super high. The guy just didn't pan out. Maybe he could get some playing time and be treated a bit better by Nellie, but he's no savior. He probably stinks it up in practice. Nellie wouldn't have a commodity who could help us win rot on the bench.

Not saying he's a savior. There's just something that they're not being clear about.

From management to broadcastors, there's no coverage of actual decisions and or progress or lack there of.

He's on the bench.

I just wish they'd be clear and ler some of us fans know the problem clearly without speculation.

I'd rather hear it from his teammates..Nellie it not trustworthy...He's always got some kind of agenda going on..With everything he does...I'll bet you Nellie even thinks Baron's a prick...He's a total BSer..."I love CJ"...Give me a break Nellie :banghead:

Even as a fan of his potential, I see it's pretty obvious what he's done to turn Nelson off (I don't think this is so much Mullin's call anymore)

When he's played well Patrick has accomplished the things a tall person is generally regarded as supposed to be able to do on the floor: i.e. be long. He's challenged shots and he's kept rebounds away from the other team. Those things are kind of square one stuff at 7'2".

When Patrick has been bad, he's been otherworldly bad. When he made his mistakes, they were often f :censored: up repugnant s :censored: type of mistakes that an NBA coach probably just doesn't expect to ever be seeing at this level. They haven't just been "rookie" mistakes, sometimes they have been semi-retarded amputee rookie type mistakes.

The problem is, Patrick isn't going to stop making those mistakes unless he plays more basketball, because he really was so far behind the curve when he was drafted. A good team in a tight playoff race probably isn't going to make a lot of room for those kinds of mistakes. Logically, to an outside observer, his mistakes are at worst just one posession, just one opportunity blown, but the I guess in Nellie's basketball savant world, some of the things he does just come off as hopeless.

I don't agree, and I don't like it, but I guess I do understand.

Of course, then I start to wonder how the :censored: Pietrus still gets on the floor making the same kinds of blither idiot mistakes as a 5 year vet, but expecting consistency from Nellie between small and big players just isn't a realistic expectation. I think it's totally reasonable to say that Nellie absolutely knows basketball, and it's also totally reasonable to say that Nellie has double standards for what he's willing to work with in a big vs. a small player.

Some other coach might decide they have time to invest in Patrick, and I personaly think they will be rewarded two years down the road with a more than servicable 7'2" NBA rotation player who can impact a game in limited minutes - think Mikki Moore. That is something that this fanchise could probably have made use of down the road, but we've decided to go another way. Maybe Kosta has the necessary polish to one day be invested in as a project backup center.

It just comes down to small ball. That's Nellie's shtick. The guy's 67 years old. How many 67 year olds do you know that change? They're all stubborn as hell. Just look at LF. :)

Sleepy you stumbled into the reason your scenario doesn;t hold up.

If you're right then why the double standard with Pietrus?

I just want someone to be forth right and fully explain. Someone from the Warriors not us.

LF may be right that it will be better coming from a player, but they're protective also.

Don't worry, it'll all start leaking out when he signs with another team in the offseason.

My scenario works just fine. It fully acknowledges that Nellie has a double standard.

Why? Because he hates ugly, clumsy, oafish basketball, some of which you have to live with if you play 7 footers who aren't athletically special with refined skills. He said so in his own words in that Dallas interview years ago . . . I wish I could have ever found a transcript of it, he gave you all the explanantion you're looking for.

That's what coaching is.

You can not be honest with any but the MOST professional players.

You have to fool most players into finding resrouces they don't believe they have, and accomplishing things they don't believe they are capable of. Coaching is about 80% sales, 20% knowledge. It really is. And gthat's not to say they don't have tons of knowledge, but they have even MORE bull :censored: .

The reason you see coaches coaches making millions doing motivtional speaking and corporate consulting? Because thier BS works. All that Knute Rockney meets Tony Robbins "The Secret" BS - it works. It shouldn't work, it's complete hooey, but it works because people believe.

That's coaching in a nutshell:
Making hard working idiots believe in things they can't convince themselves of on their own.

Mylie, the reason the media aren't demanding answers for POB is that only about five fans give one wit about the guy.

you're looking for specifics right? from what i've heard from the broadcasters and nellie & mully is that marco, kosta and bwright are all smart players and work hard. very rarely have they used the terms "smart player" and "hard worker" in regards to POB.

however, nobody denies - nor does that mean - that he doesn't have talent, potential, work on his game and that they don't like him. if POB isn't giving the best impression to the coaches and team in practice, while marco, kosta and brandan are, then that's a POB thing.

from hearing mullin speak the last couple of days he sounds really high on the youngsters, and patrick may be included. when the time is right i think they'll get in. but when you have a tight western conference, your starters have regular brain farts and don't show up for 3.5 qtrs., you're 8-9 games above .500 and you're still around 7th in the west... the margin for error is extremely small. and listening to nellie here and there, just cause he plays someone doesn't mean he's souped up on their game or performance. he just chose the lessor of two evils, or the match up was more favorable by using another guy. sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.

Soon enough, it'll come out that Nellie and POB were drinking buddies, and they had a weird night where things went too far. That's why Nellie doesn't want to be around him.

Victor Alexander might still be a warrior if Joy had never walked in and caught him and coach together in the bathtub.

I watched an old Warriors Laker comeback game from 96.

Very interesting to see Joe Smith, Spreewell, Gatling, Hardaway, Mullin, Kersey, BJ Armstrong, etc.

Cohan really effed up by firing Nellie. There were still some pieces on the team that should have kept us at a decent level.

Although Nellie had to go through the ordeal and then the Ewing debacle to learn about todays players.
