Would you guys consider Cassell for your trade exception and a lottery protected 1st?

No firsts for a two month rent-a-player.

might as well get GP for cheaper

Yes
I'll sign off on that, but no-one else will.
I pushed it on your board, but that board is so dead.
Cassell is the type of guy that could put us into the next level discussion this year.
Webber and Cassell would be absolutely huge (potentially)

No one's giving up a first and I don't know that there's another viable TPE out there (maybe Phoenix, but they gave up enough firsts already).
Why bid against yourself, especially when next year there's three or four (if you count Webber) FA's that you'll need to replace without an MLE to supplement?
We need a first next year to draft a swing guy to replace Barnes/Buke/Pietrus.

no way would i throw in a first rounder. Not for an old cassell...Yeah he would help us big time in the playoffs, but im not givin up a first rounder.

Nope. Disagree.
We'd need to get lucky to find someone good enough for Nellie to use. Might as well go for it now with Sammy if that's what it takes.
small price to pay for such a possible big pay off.
The picks in our range may or may not be any better than someone we find elswhere.
Veteran exceptions can be had.
I'm not against keeping it if at all possible, but I wouldn't let it stand in the way of Sam Cassell.

Yeah, broke down old guys like Cro, Hudson. (Hoping not to include Webber on this list).

Not all of them break down. Cro might be back and he could help us come playoff time.
We better hope Belli can play next year, and Kosta, or your scenario won't work.
I actually don't WANT TO give the 1st, but I would, that's all.

I'm also not big on the idea of giving up a First round pick for a short two month rental for a 38 year old Sam Cassell with a bad back.

I highly doubt that he would be a 2 month rental. Cassell still has 2 good years left in him and if he has a good time playing with you guys then you would get a great backup pg for the next 2 yrs.

I'd do it for the TPE..Then is a connected 2nd deal we trade Belinelli to the clips for the old scrub Aaron Williams....Now that's the way to get Sam here.

yes he's old but i would do it because guys with his type of playoff experience are rare in the NBA. he's been there before, he can help the young guys understand what it takes. he nearly took the TIMBERWOLVES to the Finals and that was something Garnett could not do by himself for almost a decade.
Davis, Ellis, Cassell sounds to me like an NBA Championship back-court.
and if that proves to be true your'e only giving away the 32nd pick anyway.
otherwise i'd pursue a gamer like Nocioni
how about Kidd? pair up Baron with his boyhood idol for a title run?
i'd go for it NOW if i was GSW, think big because the West is winnable and Portland is only going to get better and better....

Ted Stepian's in the making.

Sam Cassell is still good...but the thing is Sam is going to want to play heavy minutes. Hes not gonna be cool playing 15-20 minutes and sitting on the bench in the final minutes.
Baron, Monta, Cassell, Jackson, and 5th Warrior player is an opponents dream

With our group, I don't think Sammy complains. Especially when Monta and Baron are playing at such a high level. It would be a 3 man rotation with those three interchangable at 1 and 2.
Hopper please, I don't want to give it up, but I wouldn't let it stand in the way of what could be.
Think of another move that we didn't make that could have us in a different place right now;
We were one pick away from Rudy Gay. We could have given up an asset that you would say no to, but in hindsight we'd be in a real good place with Gay added to this bunch.
Remember that if we had picked Gay, dunleavy would have still been here which would have made the Indy deal even easier to pull the trigger on.
sometimes it's the deals you don't make that hurt your franchise.

Sam Cassell is a starter and closer in this league.
monta and baron havent proven they shouldnt be in the game at the end either. there is no way you run 3 midgets and Jackson at the end of a game. Cassell would get the short end of the stick.

Bull! You ride the hot hand.
Maybe Jax sits some nights. The only one guaranteed to be in there is Baron. Everybody else is interchangable.
No knock on monta, he's the effing man lately.

I'd rather keep our pick and trade them Marco Belinelli.
