rumor: jermaine oneal to the warriors

Post#1 » by cookie » Wed Feb 20, 2008 10:51 am

there was a rumor from ric bucher on sportscenter that the warriors had small talks with indiana about french trainwreck, patrick obryant, the trade exception, and something else going to the pacers for oneal. this would be a great trade because he'd be able to match up down low and run in this offense, unlike slowass webber.

also, the Indy Star says...
Any trade conversation involving the Pacers begins with Jermaine O'Neal. The Pacers and O'Neal have been trying to end their eight-year relationship for some time, but O'Neal's health and contract -- two more years, $44 million due after this season -- remain stumbling blocks. O'Neal has been slowed by knee injuries, again, and hasn't played since Jan. 16. He recently started doing on-the-court work, but his return date is not known.

The Pacers are making and listening to calls about him -- again -- but they have yet to find a deal they like. They've recently spoken with Golden State, New Jersey and Sacramento.

These two teams sure like to deal, don't they?

It would be really hard to match salaries for O'Neal, though, and the TPE doesn't help.

The Indy Star doesn't say the talks between the two teams involved JO, though. Maybe we're looking at facilitating a three-way deal?

Just for kicks, say Indy sends Jeff Foster to GS, utilizing their TPE, and gaining a TPE of their own to acquire Brian Cardinal. Then, Memphis sends Mike Miller to Indy in exchange for Ike Diogu, a first, and a signed and traded Reggie Miller ;)

Just what we need: Another slow broken down Center who wants to play power forward. Say goodbye to Beans if he does come our way. At least Beans would have some friends over in Indy as he would be re-united with Murphleavy and Diogu.

Yeah I just don't know about Jermain, but probably the Warriors - with Mullin, Harrington, Jackson, and Croshere - have as good an idea about him as anyone.

But I've got to think yet another beatdown by Utah last night has increased the probability that the Warriors add another veteran big man this week,

are you kidding me? jo is not a broken down center... he's injury prone, but when healthy he's as good as elton brand. baron, monta, jackson, jo, and biedrins... that's a good lineup. and we'd have more depth to our bench by moving harrington to the bench. JO's a great shotblocker and rebounder, just what the W's need. i mean it'd be hard to match his contract but come on, it's not like Pf's liek these are available everyday. Pau gasols' gone, Elton Brand probably won't opt out, and even if he does, i doubt the warriors pursue him next year then who's left? kurt thomas??? Jamison??

I'm not sure what I'd think of this, as he has become *really* injury prone. But first and foremost, yeah, I fail to see how we could put together any sort of deal for him that worked legally. The trade exception seems pretty irrelevant.

3 team deal with Memphis as Indy wants Mike miller and can unload Brian Cardinal in a deal to Indy.

In 2 separate deals . 1 with memphis to get Mike Miller and Brian Cardinal ( which is the deal maker for Memphis ) then send both with spares to Indy for JO.

You have to use Al, Pietrus and POB to Memphis then after completing the trade, move the new guys to INDY right away.

It works

Not sure this is a fit really.

He makes so much money and is so often injured that I don't think it works.

Unless they want Al Harrington back we don't have the contracts to work something out. The other option is a three team trade.

This is for some of you guys who think bringing O'Neal over here:

What are you going to do with O'Neal 21 and 23M contracts for 08/09 and 09/10.

You might as well give them Beans since we definitely will not have enough cap space to keep him if Baron decides to take his option with O'Neal umongous salary (probably one of the worst contracts in the NBA). Plus, I don't see Biedrens getting ANY run once O'Neal came over (getting less than 20 mpg as it is). You've guys apparently have drunk the Nellie cool aid. You've gotten drunk with the old drunk.

I think JO would take minutes from Webber. Beans would continue to get his 25-30 minutes.

If getting JO means no more Webber, then count me in.

Jermaine is a huge upgrade....and he wouldn't play center he would play PF...(I hope!).

Webber, as we all saw last night, is not the answer at PF for this team as he can't do any banging what-so-ever.

As long as Monta and AB can be re-signed next year...I'm for the Jermaine trade....

If healthy....it gives us a big body that can score on the post AND block shots AND fight for rebounds.

Indiana should have just traded for Baron from the Hornets. They'd be winning the East right now if they did.

Little note on Jermaine though he has missed a ton of regular season games , he has NEVER missed a playoff game as a Pacer .

If the Warriors could acquire Mike Miller to send along with Al Harringon and Pietrus or Biedrens or even Perovic , I think JO would be a Warrior immediately.

Take out Dre and put in Webb's expiring and I'm 100% on board.

I don't know that JO is "injury plauged" . . . I suspect that he's just got the mileage on his body now where guys start sitting with dings and nicks to save themselves for a worthy season.

He would LOVE playing here and would be up for battle whenever we needed him.

Jim O'Brien will not take back Chris Webber.
