I love Nellie and what he's done for our franchise BUT....he has a wealth of talent sitting on the bench and they don't get to play ! This does 2 things...it depresses the guys who never play (ie. Bellinelli) and wears out the guys who do play. Bellinelli has mad skills (he showed them off this past summer) but he hardly ever plays and why send Patrick O'Bryant to the D Laegue to get better and never play him ? I think all this will hurt us come playoff time. That being said...."Go WARRIORS !"

Nellie obviously lacks the confidence to give significant playing minutes to Bellinelli and O'Bryant. As long as the Warriors are in contention for the playoffs, they will not play. Nellie has been very notorious for not going deep into his bench, especially during this part of the season; don't expect him to deviate from his coaching style/philosophy now.

During the regular season, it's always good for coaches to have confidence in 10 players to help get you into playoffs. However, during the playoffs, it's not uncommon to see teams use a seven or eight-man rotation.

It's no big secret the Warriors will have major problems going up against teams with bigger and stronger frontlines during the playoffs (see Utah during last year's playoffs). I hope the Warriors make a move prior to today's trade deadline and bring in some more frontline help. This poster has very little confidence in Webber 2008.

It's a known fact that Nellie favors the veteran all the way. He just doesnt have any confidence on his rookies.He'll live and die with his veterans. Reports everywhere point to this. Then Mullin seemed to be playing conservatively with the trading issue reluctant to pull a trigger to obtain a big time reliable player that will bring help inside the paint-WIlcox,Brand,Artest,Kurt,etc.
Warriors CEO/Owner-COHAN not the kind to spend money to bring this team to playoff respectability.Cohan satisfied with warrior's near playoff record filling in the coliseum,endorsement,etc.

You guys are way to bent on Nellie not playing young guys... Take a look at the league.. How many playoff teams actually play their rooks??

UT - Almond in D-league
NO - Wright gets no time
SA - never have a rook
HOU - doesnt get played either
Den - not seeing time either

So realistically, we are playing our rookies just like every other team who is in the playoff hunt in the West

Only rooks in the league who get time on the floor, are rooks who play for non - playoff teams....

If Wright had beef, then I believe he'd get more run.

I also think Nelly should play more guys. If we simply outnumbered our opponents 7 to 5, say, I think that would provide us with a substantial advantage.

Great 1st post.. agree with all but the Beli stuff.

If we had given Wright and POB just a little bit of consistent run in the beginning of the year, we could really build on this win and vault us to (potentially) the top of the West.

Nellie has to recognize that this isn't his usual merry bunch of scrubs... our top guys have loads of talent and its time to start using them correctly.

Well I was referring to teams in the WEST.. So that would not include BOS and DET as they are in the EAST... and besides, if we played 50 games in the East, I am sure we would have a few more blow outs where Nellie would have played our Rookies a tad bit more..

as for anyone who mentioned, Farmar, Rondo, Powe or any other 2nd year player.. I also mentioned rookies.. since when did rookies become 2nd year players in their first season???

as for Scola, he wold be the exception, but then again, I think like 10 years of international ball, olympics and the Worlds discount some of that rookie notion.


And if we want to talk about 2nd year players, even Nellie has said and feels that Belli and Wright will have more of an impact in their 2nd seasons.. and even our own 2nd year player Buki has seen time on the floor.. Last year it was Ellis and he saw lots of time on the floor..

I just personally have noticed that most WESTERN CONFRENCE powers dont play their Rooks... and when people on here bash Nellie for it, I think they should look at the WEST in general and notice its the same with all the elite teams

All those teams are much deeper than us. Every one of them, including HOU...

My fave example is NO though. Hilton Armstrong mainly... he's been given small amounts of burn throughout his career, and if Chandler's in trouble, or if he needs a breather, Hilton can come in and not hurt the team.

That last quote... isnt that what we were saying about POB last season? It would be great if we could give Biedrins a rest and still maintain length in the post. Its a pipe dream now, but what could have been...

I still maintain that Wright can and should get minutes, especially if we play traditional ball. Croshere came in and was brutal for 3 minutes... If we plug Wright in there, would it be worse? If Croshere is somewhat effective for 3 minutes, thats good, but if Wright is somewhat effective for 3 minutes, that's great, for now and the future. But I'll forgive his benching so long as smallball is in the trash.

1) Hilton got burn last season since the Hornets were so banged up last season, that since they playoffs werent an option, the let him play for the future.. so in turn, i think if the Warriors wernt in contention for the playoffs this season, we would be seeing some burn for Wright

2) POB, i know some of you guys like him a tad, but I dont.. He is 1) lazy on the floor and 2) on defense, always in the wrong position.. I just dont see him being a reliable option down the road.. he doesnt play hard enough, plays poor postion on defense and just doesnt look like he is into the game

3) as for Cro, yeah I could see Wright gettin those 3 mins.. but if you look at the box score last night, with Cro on the floor we were +1.. so if he played 36 mins, we would have won by 12... j/k... I think more than anything, thats Nellie just feeling comfy with the 10 year vet rather than the 20 year old... but I would like myself to see Wright get more burn, so not gonna argue 3 mins at all...

We do not have a wealth of talent on the bench. We may (I hope) have a wealth of *future* talent sitting on our bench. But right now, our bench is one of the worst in the league.

You also have to look at who are the players on the bench.


Wright only played one year in College, O Bryant 2 and were considered projects.

Belli is a veteran from playing in Europe since he was 16 but plays a position where, Ellis,Buke,Jackson, Barnes are better at the swing positions.

Slightly off topic but for me, seeing us complain about being a shallow team is in a way refreshing. Years ago we would always bring up the point that we had a strong bench, the problem was that the discrepancy between our bench and starters was small because our starters sucked. When you're comparing Mookie Blaylock and Vonteego Cummings, of course our bench looks strong because starters/bench could be interchangeable.
