Bill Simmons shows respect for Ellis and the Warriors

Post#1 » by uteptwostep » Sat Feb 23, 2008 2:31 am

For those hungering for some respect for our humble franchise, in between bashing Kidd-to-Dallas, Bill Simmons rates Ellis as an elite PG (along with Davis of course) and gives us better odds of making the playoffs than Dallas, Houston, and Denver.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/080223

...a guard who could create shots for everyone and carry the offense every time it got stagnant ... Golden State has Baron Davis and Monta Ellis.

...switch Jason Terry for someone like Monta Ellis, and I'd be saying, "Wow, awesome trade!"...

I'd take seven point guards in the West over him [Kidd]: Paul, Williams, Nash, Davis, Iverson, Parker and Ellis.

Right now, there's going to be a 48- to 50-win team that finishes ninth, and from what I've seen, it's between Houston, Dallas and Denver for that spot. Everyone else is getting in.

Admittedly it doesn't mean anything, but it beats a kick in the head. :)

noticed that as well...

simmons is such a good writer when he doesn't write about anything boston related. Problem is, he can't write a column without somehow referencing the celtics.

I can't imagine the Mavericks falling out of the playoffs.

Wow I can't believe someone actually respects us and gives us recognition. Damn.

Wow, that's some mad respect right there. Heck, I don't even think Monta's an elite PG yet and I can't imagine DAL out of the PO's.

I'm not so sure. They've been falling for a while and now this trade could make things worse.

Bill Simmons is awesome when he's not being a complete homer

It's interesting that he mentions replacing Terry with Ellis. Terry reminds me a lot of Ellis. Terry is basically a poor mans Ellis, and I mean that as a compliment.

I wholeheartedly agree. I love simmons, but the constant Boston references blow it for me sometimes.

I pretty much stopped reading his columns during football season this year because of the goddom Pats.

This is like the 3rd time in the past couple of weeks that Simmon's has mentioned Ellis in an article.

In his column about the NBA's public relations in New Orleans, he mentions Ellis as one of the next generation of Stars in the league that are both talented, and shedding the image of the NBA as a thugish league.

He has to mention Ellis unless he's blind.

anyone around the country who is just seeing for the first time during his incredible run has to have their jaws drop.

We've seen it for a while. The rest of the country is just starting to catch up.

Ellis is getting lots of great attention from TNT and elsewhere these days, it's true. Simmons has been talking about him for a long time.

It's Monta and Biedrins' team moving forward.
