WC Playoff Race Thread: Fat Lady in Full Aria Mode

Post#1 » by sanddude909 » Thu Mar 13, 2008 5:51 am

Mods, may I suggest that this thread be stickied?

Here are the current standings for the last 3 spots in the Western Conference playoff race:

6. Phoenix, 42-20
7. Dallas, 42-23
8. Golden State, 40-23
9. Denver, 38-26

Results as of 3/12:

Phoenix: idle
Dallas: W
Golden State: W
Denver: W

Games for 3/13:

GS @ Phoenix
Dallas: NA
Denver: NA

I won't necessarily be posting here every day, but this could provide one place for playoff related posts to be made and up-to-date standings to be provided.

Not a real exciting thread (no scantily clad women, no embarrassing / insulting / humorous photos of our heroes or villians) but perhaps entertainment can be added while the day to day facts are tracked.

I would guess 12 and 8 would do it, and id hope for a 14-6 or 15-5 which could get us to a number 6 seed and then we wouldnt have to play LA, and more than likely could play NO or Houston who i believe we can dominate. Truthfully, the only team i can beating us in a 7 game series is the lakers. We dont match up with them at all. Spurs would be trouble too, but id take my chances with them over the Lakers and Kobe.

We have Webber now, they shouldn't be a problem. :P

On a serious note...I really think with BWRIGHT getting more minutes, we have a better shot at them...and with Monta dominating as well.

Warriors need to get the 6th Seed

Post#9 » by warriorsfan15 » Sat Mar 15, 2008 12:15 am

Warriors need the 6th Seed Because they have a better shot of advancing to the 2nd round. Against Houston or New Orleans. If the warriors don't get the 6th seed they're going out in the first round against SA Or LAL. If warriors play the spurs they are going to get sweep or go out in 5 games.Spurs are the best in the league in stopping that Fast Break stuff, They did it against Nellie Dallas Teams and Phoenix, They'll do it against the warriors. They have no answer for Duncan and Parker, Plus the spurs are a different team come playoff time. Warriors have a better shot against the lakers because lakers are not as good defensively as SA. Lakers an match the warriors offense. And lakers would still beat us in 6 games. They are bigger and better at every position except PG. They have a better bench than us. Lakers go 11 deep while the warriors go 7-8 deep. Lakers Frontline would kill us on the boards. Therefore warriors need that 6 seed. No upsets this year.

Be optimistic. Plus the seeds change every day so it it doesnt really matter....i dont think the warriors are aiming for any seed other than making the playoffs.

There's a decent enough chance that the Warriors don't even make the playoffs. I'm just happy with them making them for now.

I think there's no way the Warriors will miss the playoffs at this point. Hopefully they can work up the standings, but that will be tough.

Depending on who they face, I can see getting killed in the first round, or conceivably making it all the way to the WCF. Worst case matchups: Lakers, Jazz. Best case matchups: Dallas, Phoenix, Houston. Could go either way: Charlotte, San Antonio.

I think first of all, the warriors shouldn't aware of the other teams, they have to play the best and keep on improving, the important thing now is to make the playoffs

Since the standing of the West is not even close to be clear, I would say 4-8 spots can face Houston or New Orleans too.

How so? I don't mean to be a contrarian, but we're only a game and a half ahead of Denver, they're playing much better, and I don't see any other team slumping out of it. Plus, our schedule's tough.

Memphis
Sacramento
LA Clippers
Houston
LA Lakers
LA Lakers
Portland
Denver
Dallas
San Antonio
Dallas
Memphis
New Orleans
Sacramento
Denver
LA Clippers
Phoenix
Seattle

only 7 of those 18 games are against teams below .500, and 2 of them are against Sac, whom are very capable of beating us. Its a fairly difficult schedule to deal with trying to fight for that last spot. Dubs are in control of their own destiny.

I just don't think its a sure thinig by any means. None of the teams in the west race are slowing down, and Denver's heating up. Its gonna be a battle. What do you think?

We can beat the spurs. We already beaten them 2 times.

The Warriors have proven that they can beat the Spurs at home; however, I don't want to see the Warriors against the Spurs, especially in first round of the playoffs. The Spurs have won 19 straight games at home against the Warriors, a streak that started back on Feb 14 97. No, I don't like the team's chances to beat the Spurs in a best of seven game series. Besides, I don't even want to give Popovich the opportunity to get Nellie drunk like he did last year. We all remember that famous bottle of expensive vintage port wine he shared with Nellie the night prior to the game.

Pop - "Hey Nellie, did you ever give any thought to playing major minues with a lineup of: CJ, Pete, Bukie, Barnes & Cro? I mean that would really throw off your opponent wouldn't it? No no . . . I'm fine, you can have the last glass."

The Rox are tied for the first seed. We'd easily destroy them, especially without Yao.
