Over the weekend:
JACKSON, Miss. -- The brother of Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis has been released from the hospital after being shot in the back twice over the weekend.
Antwain Ellis, 27, was released Monday afternoon from University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jeffery Scott said.
Ellis was found Sunday afternoon by his mother, who went to his house to check on him.
Scott said Monday the circumstances around the shooting "are not clear," and Jackson police have not yet conducted a formal interview because the elder Ellis was undergoing medical treatment.
There are no suspects and no arrests have been made.

Monta should bring his family here.
This was probably why Monta had to rush through a public signing I went to yesterday early evening. It was still cool to meet him in person though. Warriors Girls Heather and Jessica were there too (thankfully two of the hotter ones lol).
But man, there were a lot of 'Warriors fans' there who were talking out of their holes. Here are a few of the things I heard:
"I heard they signed Monta and Biedrins for two years a while ago"
"They traded DJ Mbenga for Chris Webber"
"Pietrus is my favorite player"
It was disappointing to see and hear some pretty unknowledgeable W's 'fans'.
Didn't mean to go off-topic, just thought I'd share.

definitely, i'd say a good 60-70% of the people who claim to be W's fans don't even know everybody on the roster.

Maybe "Mississippi Bullet" is not the best nickname after all.

Get well soon, Antwain. His family's gotta hang in there for a few more months until Monta cash in and relocate them.

Man, that sucks
Antwain was Monta's role model back when he was a kid right?
Hope Twain recovers a'ite and Monta's game on the court doesn't take a hit, he's 1 of my fave players...

Well, yes and no. I've gathered from interviews with Monta that while he does look up to and love his brother, his brother set the example for exactly how Monta
didn't want to turn out. Tay used basketball to escape the reality of life around him, and knew that he could easily turn out like his older bro if basketball didn't come through for him.
Best wishes Antwain, and like others have said, just pay the man so he can get his family some safety and security.

hope his bro has a full recovery.
monta could move his family now if he and they wanted to. he's making what to normal people is huge money. its not the millions he'll be making by next year but he's still at like $400k or whatever the rookie min is. there are very few areas of the country where someone with that salary can't afford to rent a nice house. if he needed more money, he could get a loan from a bank or just from his agents.

he's making 770K... so yeah he could already have gotten his family to a better part of the city... but its still up to his brother to stay out of the old neighborhood

I'm just trying to figure out what part of the country making half a million a year couldn't rent you a nice house. Maybe Bel-Air? All I know is you could probably buy a plantation in Mississippi making the 3/4 million dollars he is making.
Best wishes to Monta and his family. Hopefully this doesn't weigh too heavily on Monta and his brother recovers quickly.

I was thinking the same thing, but if you actually go into it. I can see why they haven't moved yet.
After taxes, 770k is like 400K. I think that's more than he made in his first two years, but let's say that's how much he made each year.
He doesn't know if he's gonna have a contract next year, something could happen and that'd be it. I dont know how big his family is, but i can imagine that money running out quickly if he didnt have a new contract signed.

I'd have to say...maybe his family didn't want to, or wasn't ready to move...
Alot of people get stuck in the syndrome of staying at home...
I have however seen Monta & His family numerous times at alameda bowl so it's obvious they visit and possibly frequent...
Like someone mentioned above, you just have to stay out of old neighborhoods...when you reach new levels of life and family wealth, people view you as a target that they can use themselves for temporary "come ups"
Best wishes to the Ellis family, and by this time next year they'll be happy with their long term residence in the Bay Area....that new contract is pretty much a Guarentee after his display of talent.
