We might be the most clutch team in the NBA... only one player is actually in the - in the clutch (Barnes), while it exposes some players who we never want shooting at this time (Harrington, Barnes, Pietrus)...

The Clutch eFG tells the entire story about our team: (actual FG% in parentheses)

Jackson - 66% (47.2%)

Baron - 58.4% (51.8%)

Biedrins - 57.1% (57.1%)

Ellis - 54% (54%)

Buke - 50% (42.9%)


The rest is ugly... but point being, the next time we're in a hole of a clutch game, there's no excuse to not be rolling w/these 5 people... this team is so resilient that it could win despite its coaches brutal rotations... its exciting to think of what a Nellie-free future could bring to us

I think of Smart ball, Monty ball, Musshead ball and just plain ugly losing ball as our next coaching experience. It will be interesting who the next coach will be and if the Warriors will pony up and pay for a good established one. I really against bringing in a rookie coach and have them undo the progress that has been made. The Warriors at least have something to build on now. I don't think Nelson is the answer, but be careful what you wish for...

Why assume we're bringing in a rookie coach though?

Just because we did it in the drought years? What coach was going to jump at the opportunity of leading a team led by Danny Fortson, Antawn Jamison, Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy, notorious crybaby Baron Davis... we hired who we could.

Now we have an exciting team, with some great young players.

No one here is saying anything would be better than Nellie... but there sure are better options and if we want to be a serious team in contention at some point, there has to be a transition... otherwise we just hope and pray our team gets hot from outside in April/May every year like the rest of the 5-8 seeds do...

Here, let me hold your hand as I walk you through the entirety of his stats...

Right next to where you are looking is the shot clock usage... Monta shoots 20% eFG, 100% assisted, with 4-8 secs left on the SC... he's not made a shot all season with less than 4 on the SC in the clutch. Why? Our offense, and especially Monta's is not based on waiting and finding a spot to attack. Its attacking a spot and making them react.

What it signifies is that Monta's jumper off the dribble is suspect... and w/less than 10 seconds on the SC, we don't want him in that situation anyways. What we're likely seeing is a series of bailout shots and shots that come from broken plays...

Here you can see the heavy decline in eFG% as the SC declines... all players do it, but not this exaggerated. From 58.5% down to 42.8%... Only player who's even close is Jackson, who thrives on the same thing Tay does.

So basically, when Monta's comfortable with the shot and its early, his fg% is astronomical... when he isn't, he's below average... reason #1 he should be manning the point in the clutch, looking for his shot, and giving it up if he can't find it.

Momty ball. Musshead ball et al were not playing with the same deck as Nellie. Instead of Baron, Jack, Al, Bukie and even Barnes (along with Monta and Biedrens who weren't even starters or even close), they were stuck with Donenuthin', Murphytoe and "I am the ape man" Foyle. Even though I'm not saying that they come near Nellie in terms of coaching ability, all I'm saying comparing them with what they had to Nellie with what he has is totally unfair. I think one of the points that 510 is making and I'm somewhat inclined to agree with is that this team would have a chance with any half way decent coach out there. The real question I think which needs to be asked (and which I've asked before) is how many games has Nellie (small ball) won for us and how many has it lost for us (not including last seasons playoff victory against Dallas)? Certainly a really tough question to answer, but one which I really think should be pondered. You could say that small ball won the series against Dallas last year but by the same token I believe you can say that it lost the Utah series for us so small ball is really a "two-edged" sword so to speak.

Simple....Warriors have the best three "small" players in the league....

Put Elton Brand on this team and you have a championship level front court to go with a championship level back court.

Don't tell any Pacers fans, but the dude originally slated to be Reggie's heir may just be the most clutch 3-point shooter in the world right now. Takes the most and hits them at a 46% clip.

And the premise of this thread is spot on. This team has underachieved in practically every single game (big three getting worn down with fatigue and/or injuries; offensive stagnation; defensive laziness) and somehow has still managed a pretty decent record - although it could be better.

thats right...cause coaching couldnt have been the reason for success. with all the superstars on this team...Nellie had nothing to do with the success.

give credit to where credit is due...and that starts with Nellie.

Outside of Monta, who has developed a ton passing-wise, what exactly is "coaching" doing?

It sure isn't developing for the future... we've pissed away one 7 footer and can't find a complete minute for our lengthy, smart young PF because we're giving a 6'5 SG heavy minutes at the SF/PF spots...

A small part of me hopes we miss the playoffs... one, so we can move up 7 spots in the draft in a quick instant, and 2 so these buffoons talkin up Nellie could now be proud of the fact that we're still on the outside looking in and did absolutely nothing to better our future... Nellie's a giant placebo and the ones that buy into it are psychosomatic pessimists... apparently the natural talent is lower than we optimists believe and its Nellie making the huge difference

Since the knock has been on Nellie for not developing players, tell me who the Warriors have developed over the past 14 years? I can't think of a single project player that the Warriors have developed.
